First twenty minutes (personally stopping here) Molly just keeps theorizing what she thinks his art means and then finds out she was wrong. She also keeps trying to make comparisons to other artists and movements, to which he pretty much says "eh not really". Personally I don't think of surrealism at all when I look at Andy's work. Surrealists believed in tapping into the "unconscious" and even worked off the structure of automatic drawings. If you watch River and Tides he clearly states that he has never been more in tune with his surroundings and in-tune with his environment then when he is creating a work. Also that he lets the environment guide the direction of what he creates.
If I know anything from all the years studying art and going to galleries, it's that unless its explicitly stated by the artist.... Their work probably means something else to them, vs. what the viewer thinks. Many artists use this to their advantage too. Personally I love when a piece is meant to have multiple interpretations.
Instead of just assuming and trying to sound smart, in this situation, I'd first ask him the question. "This one is fascinating, what does this piece mean to you?" Then after he gives his answer i'd then follow up with how you interpreted it for added content to the talk. Although he may or may not correct you in the end, because after all he created it.
