  • The Striding Arches are a series of three massive stone sandstone arches built on the hilltops around Cairnhead, near Moniaive. Built by renowned sculptor Andy Goldsworthy, the arches are complemented by another springing from an old byre at the foot of the valley.
    Thursday 24nd March we wildcamped under the arch on Benbrack, it was a memorable camp, we awoke on Good Friday to a lovely morning which just improved as the day went on. #garnforaratch #WildCamping

    Thanks for taking us to the Arches. I love these types of art installations. The restoration of the Byre's roof is a nice by-product of the project. Would be nice indeed to see a restoration of the farm house, too, but it is good that the history is getting a special focus through the sculptures.

      +Random Button Pusher Glad you enjoyed the Arches, we really enjoyed them. They really fit in with their surroundings, and the story behind them is very interesting. Those name plaques are all dwellings that worked the Cairnhead valley their inhabitants upping sticks for a better life in the New World. His work is well documented and can be found on many internet sites. Thank you, for viewing...R&D

    Pleasantly unusual R&D looks like those arches are held up by there angle cut alone, self sustaining arches maybe. Wonderful undulated countryside and a great time lapse in front of the arch (Your going to have to get a quad I was dieing to fly one through lol) Happy easter guys :) Tim

    • @garnforaratch
      @garnforaratch  8 лет назад

      +savedpurplecat Something a little bit quirky Tim, since our camp we have researched Andy Goldsworthy, his work is amazing. Woodland arches, even working with ice! They are self supporting with a key stone in the top, on looking at them. Love the drone footage you guy's put up, but for now i think my pack's laden enough,ha- ha, but i totally agree a quad filming of them would be cool. Who's gonna be first? A belated Happy Easter to you and your family too..ATB R&D

    Interesting area and cracking spot to camp R&D. Underneath the arches lol. Why cant man stick to enhancing the landscape like this rather than mobile phone masts and the like ? It's a fine part of the world for sure , captured brilliantly again guys. Atb. Mick.

    • @garnforaratch
      @garnforaratch  8 лет назад

      +blamhof Hi Mick, The arches have been well postioned, the one we camped at was east to west facing, that was excellent that we could see the other two. Totally agree in the enhancement of the landscape, they have a place and seem to belong in their surroundings. Well worth a visit, a very peaceful and interesting place, not many folk about. Thank you for watching....ATB R&D

      +Scots Wildcamper These arches are worth a visit, maybe when all the forestry work is completed. Our plans had to be changed, but it turned out okay. Long drive in on seriously narrow roads with few passing places.Worth it though, maybe go back next winter, be great in the snow...R&D
