  • Project introduction! 1940 239 Flathead V8. We are going to attempt to get this engine running so we can put it in a hot rod! There's a lot of work to do. It needs new gaskets, water pumps, fuel pump, carburetor, distributor, plugs and wires, and much more. We will build a run stand and fire this thing up!!!
    In this video, we save a old starter from a engine that was on it's way to the scrapper!
    There's still plenty to do on the channel! Subscribe and click the notification bell so you don't miss a thing! Please leave a comment, and thanks for watching!!
    Coming up soon on the Model A project... More trunk repair, chassis fabrication, finishing the rear subrails, fitting oversize door pins, rebuilding door latches, rust repair on the doors and quarter panels, and much more!
    Thanks for watching!

      Thanks you sir. I'm telling you, it was more work than the video made it look, but I feel accomplished, and yep, happy haha.

    I have a flathead I'd like to revive, but I'm no mechanic. This is exactly what I need. Love your videos and how relatable you make everything. Keep putting great content out! And Thank You!!!

    Thats a nice save! If that condition starter was from a modern car, it would have been thrown to the trash bin long time ago. That older stuff sure works forever, when compared to the newer products.

      That’s right. They just don’t make things like they used to. I was pleasantly surprised that it worked after seeing how it looked when I started.

    Yeah ---- I like watching Bad Chad ---- he does wonders with transforming cars ---- Yes --- one would think looking at your starter it's scrap --- all rusty -- doesn't turn ---- But ---- digging into it --- one comes up with a winner --- and BEST of all ----- money in the pocket --- Sounds like a plan going forward ----- Have a Good Day ---- Will see what you have for us next time ---- Rodney

    Loved the video on the ol flatty! I’m contemplating on doing a flathead 8 conversion on my 49 Ford 8N tractor, I’ve never done too much with the flatheads so I’m going to enjoy these next few videos! Enjoy the weekend!

      I've always loved those V8 tractors. My dad has a '47 or '48 8N. Thanks for the comment!

    I'm aware that applying 12 volts to a 6 volt starter will make the starter spin faster, but does switching the polarity from a positive ground to a negative ground reverse the rotation of the armature? Thanks for sharing, Phillip! 'Looking forward to the flathead build!

      The starter will spin the same direction wired negative or positive ground. You'd think changing polarity would change the direction of rotation, but because the way a starter is built, it doesn't care about polarity, it always spins the same direction.

    You like sandblasting, can you save the bendix as well as the starter motor?

    • @phillipshotrodgarage
      @phillipshotrodgarage  Год назад

      I don't think the Bendix can be saved. I had to apply a lot of heat to it to remove it. It's probably best to replace it.
