- In today's video I share my process on drawing the planes of the head. I primarily use the Andrew Loomis method but I deviate along the way. I believe that we all must find what works for our own particular needs.
I have studied the Loomis version and the Asaro version and pulled ideas from each. Which method or concepts do you prefer? Comment below and share your ideas with other artists!
Here is the other RUclips tutorial that I mentioned in this video - How to Draw Heads "Diving it into Thirds" - • How to Draw Heads - Di...

Thank you and have a great day!
I’ve been taught stuff like this and it really doesn’t help me draw people much. It’s great if you’re always drawing freaking Batman or something but the classes never seem to get you back to the point where you learn to adapt this to different ages and sexes. Not to mention the number of people whose faces absolutely don’t match the scale to the point that it almost seems useless to learn it.
And it’s got so many pieces that I could never turn it in space. It doesn’t help that I struggle with visualization. I wish more people would teach a very simple shape for rotation and then teach how to apply the features. I just don’t usually draw these Loomis/Hogarth square jaw butch boys.
You don’t sound egotistical. Loomis isn’t a god.

I completely agree on this my friend , it suck , because it doesn't really help but it even destroys our ability to think beyond the box
But it helps understanding the planes and how they catch light. You can always build further and change proportions from this basic head
The drawing is hard or im stupid ?
the drawing is hard , you need to stop following these overinformation and use your imagination without putting a limit in your mind to spoil the sketch actually
Head is hard. I've been practicing Loomis nonstop for months and I still don't have it down. Apparently when you're trying to draw something (let's say an angle of the head) you do it wrong. Ok so, figure out what you're doing wrong. Oh? Turns out you need to understand perspective then for some reason fken boxes etc. it's honestly a cluster of things thats making my mind spin, I dunno if I'm gonna get down these planes or what but the best you can do is keep pushing on man, especially if you're self taught. Art is literally just false hope 100%
Centre line is really hard to get right.
@@Toxpao07 bro I can draw now I have improved a lot ❤️
