    Dude I don't think you realize just how close you came to losing a finger or getting degloved. That was a seriously dangerous use of the router table.

      I think he may have been talking about wearing gloves while cutting out the piece. All he had to do was touch the glove with the router bit and he would have had a real bad day. I know a guy who lost a couple of digits when his glove got caught by a router bit. If the tool spins, don't wear gloves. If you get nicked by a spinning blade, you loose some hide. Let it catch that glove and you loose a finger or two.

      @@krisknowlton5935I've not watched this video yet but I do agree about the glove situation. I never wear gloves with things that move round and round EXCEPT for a grinder.

      @@willhall7777 Will, I've seen it too many times. Guys wearing gloves around spinning cutters. Oops, lost a finger or thumb. My hands used to feel like leather and as tough.(I say used to because I am old and don't work so hard anymore .) Guys today must think their hands need to stay soft like a girl's hands.

    Your young, male, confident, and probably still at that feeling indestructible stage, 40 years ago I was to, but 40 years of using Chems like Acetone, with no gloves, no respirators has me paying the price now. It's never to late to add a few things to your work flow so you stop absorbing dangerous chems through your eyes, lungs and skin.
    Cant wait to see you run that boat.

    This process is NOT safe. You do great work, and got very lucky. Don't do this again. There are a ton of videos of very skilled machinists losing fingers this way. If you want to do this, figure out a way to get your hands way away from that router table. It had nothing to do with your skill, the machine just sucks people into it faster than they can react.

    Aluminium on a sketchy router table was already an iffy idea to put on the internet (but honestly I’ve probably done worse) but man, take the gloves off. Gloves on a router table isn’t an example anybody should be setting.
    Other than that, I can appreciate the ingenuity.

    • @TyroneDamShewlaces
      @TyroneDamShewlaces Год назад +3

      I didn't mind the gloves nearly as much as how close you let hour fingers get to the cutter bit. Holy cow! I felt physical sickness inside. You should take the time to rig some kind of clamp or something so you can still hold the part steady while keeping your flesh three inches or so away from the cutter.
      I can guarantee that if you did that the way you did it long enough, you WILL lose a finger or two. Not worth it. Take the time to rig a SAFE way to hold it.

    Your video is exactly what I was looking for. I’m making a tool jig out of 1/2” 6061. I just made a prototype with my Xtool P2 out of doubled up 1/4” MDF. I’ll be able to make template easily now too. Were you using just regular wood router bits? I didn’t know about the laser paint and just ordered some. I’m excited about adding my logo to the jig. Thank you!

    Why would I buy a expense laser to make a wood template, rough cut the aluminum piece, fasten the wood template to the aluminum then route it out on a router? After all the I still need to drill and tap. I would just cut the aluminum with a band saw, belt sand edges and drill press holes. NOW if the laser will cut through the aluminum you would have something there.

    Question about primeweld mig 180.... Do you know of a compatible spool gun that will work with the 180? I'm searching and searching cause i use the spool gun full time and i can't keep it working without it malfunctioning ever 20 minutes of use. Maybe after 15 minutes. Not solid non stop super long welds for that long but about 1 inch long welds for 15-20 minutes. The motor starts acting sluggish and stopping, sluggish then stopping. I've had primeweld for about 3 years and I've been trying to find a solution to this problem from the start. They've sent me a total of about 5 spool guns and they all do the same thing. I still really like the primeweld machines but the spool gun is sadly trash. I wished it was something I'm doing wrong but after three years of research and watching videos and tons of reading I've concluded it's the spool gun.

    • @amcustomfab
      @amcustomfab  10 месяцев назад

      Agreed there. Spool gun is not the greatest. That's why everybody has asked me to do a school again video and I haven't yet because it's not a great spool gun . I thought I heard a whisper if they are in the process of designing a more robust one. But I haven't seen anybody use a different brand yet

    • @amcustomfab
      @amcustomfab  10 месяцев назад

      No, unfortunately it won't cut any metal. Just wood and acrylic. It will engrave on steel and stainless though does not engrave on aluminum unless it's a chemical engravating
