Sending someone at a corporation to jail for wrongdoing in that case they’re not people we should treat them differently. Only treat corporations like people when it benefits them.

Those inspections, weren't being done and the accountability lies in so many there. Who ever was to supervise the inspectors reporting, the inspectors themselves, the managers of that Boar's Head facility need to be let go and the whole management of that one facility need to be let go.
Any employees that worked directly in those areas with the broken pipes , condensation, mold etc, need their files checked to see if they had reported the issues to supervisor. All of them need to be held accountable.

Rather than an academic being interviewed, I'd rather see a USDA official on the spot. I'm sure they refused to talk with news media. What is interesting about this is the supermarket Kroger just remodeled their deli to highlight Boar's Head products almost exclusively. Since the product code for recall is on the bulk package only, there's no way to know if the meat you're getting is not recalled. That step is up to the seller to determine. Not much comfort IMHO.

      Hi 👋🏾
      Deli employee for [redacted]
The Boar's Head recall is and continues to be serious!
I was present when a Boar's Head representative collected all of their products that were recalled.
The products that were recalled in summary is most of their ham, beef, and uncured salami's.
None of the chicken, turkey, or cheeses were recalled.
All of our silcers had to be cleaned and unfortunately we still sell Boar's Head products at our location.
I have never eaten Boar's Head products and gave up deli meats from my diet years ago. I hate that I have to sell this company's products knowing about the outbreak.
I'm nervous everytime a customer purchases one of the products from our retail wall and at the service counter.

I WORK IN FOOD SAFETY AND KNOW PEOPLE IN FOOD SAFETY. What Boars Head did, which no one is talking about it profits have been down since covid because Boars Head, already expensive, raised their prices even more. Lots of delis stopped carrying it. So the people in the board room had to cut costs and well, less cleaning and sanitization happened as a result. When you are a lunch meat processor, it is so critical to know the minimum standards for keeping a clean facility and surpassing that goal by 200% because it is so easy to cross contaminate and the heads of the company who okayed this budget cut in this category should be charged and jailed.

About 50 years ago I worked in a small meat distributorship. It was the dirtiest place I'd ever seen - I even saw green slugs on top of liver that had been stored in big aluminum tubs. If beef that was being ground into hamburger fell onto the ground, it went back into the grinder-sawdust, dirt and all. Anyway, the word came down that the feds were going to start regulating these types of businesses and to expect inspections once the program got rolling. I remember the owner whining and moaning over how much money this was going to cost, especially to bring that facility up to standards. Anyway, he complied and it looked like things were not as bad has he had anticipated. However, the federal inspector assigned to this place became chums with the business owner and guess what? Somebody's palms were greased and there was never another violation- ever.

I mean no way the blame is all on trump, it’s mostly budget cuts to allocate budgets elsewhere like never ending wars and such,
it gets put onto state oversight instead of federal, and the big companies donate to local politicians to look the other way many places, (and it is true if you look at the statistics of regulation differences in red vs blue states that red states make more cuts and things like this happen more often because they don’t hold those in charge to account as often)
My point is, there are many people to blame for this issue, even everyone pointing their fingers at someone else not wanting to take accountability
stricter penalties need to be placed and upheld to prevent companies letting it get to this point in the future..
I mean the blame should be on the company (they’ll pay fines), and on inspectors
Maybe they should have a whistleblower system for employees who speak out and report these type of conditions to state and federal food safety get paid $, if they report it to superiors and it doesn’t change (which the state/federal can charge the company to reimburse for.. they’re gonna fine them anyways)

One issue with our laws is that corporations insulate individuals from responsibility. If a personal cuts corners and someone dies, they are charged with manslaughter and spend years in prison. With a corporation, they pay a fine, which is viewed as a “cost of doing business”. In other words, they weigh the fines against what they earn by violating the laws. If the CEO went to prison for six years for each death, they would definitely consider safety a higher priority. Note, this is not just in food. Boeing chose to take shortcuts and violate safety standards to boost CEO pay. Ask the astronauts who are stuck on the ISS or the passengers who survived a door blowing out of an airplane. As long as the executives weigh safety against their own paychecks, you know safety will always lose. If they weighed it against years in prison, they may decide differently.

How much were the USDA inspectors paid to look the other way or not even show up for inspections?

Food is already so expensive. I usually buy Boar's Head because I want a quality product and I think the price is worth it. It bothers me so much that a company that boasts their quality over cheaper brands would allow this to happen.

That’s a shame. I always felt like this company was premium. Now I know I’ll never buy it again. You don’t get a second chance when the issue was INTENTIONAL negligence.

State leaders need to do their job on making sure food companies are in compliance with food safety before sending it out.
Do your job. That's what we pay for.

I don't know what happened to Boars Head. They used to be held to such a high standard. They had their own police at one time. This must be a new group of people working for them. What a damn shame! 😢

Boars head is supposed to be one of the best in the industry! If this happens in their plants, how bad are the products coming from inferior companies? What liability, if any, do the retail grocers have for selling this crap? Is this a result of one of the "deregulation" policies that Trump is so proud of?

    • @Skateandcreate9
      @Skateandcreate9 3 месяца назад

Inferior 😂 you mean companies small enough that they still have an image to work hard to secure? Boars head obviously thought they could do whatever they wanted because they were a “premier” brand….

Don't blame the regulatory authority for Board's head failures. The health department is not going to close a facility because food contact surfaces are not cleaned & sanitized. While the inspection is going on the health authority will get correction on site but violations will be on the inspection reports. The management does not have Active Managerial Control & failed to follow regulations & recommendations Publix and any other chain needs to drop Boar's Head and the companies liscences need to be revoked. Due to Boar's Head willful negligence, people have now tragically died.

Remember how Boars Head said on their ads, "Compromise Elsewhere." It's clear they certainly were not doing that in their operations for God knows how long. The plants need to be closed forever, the brand needs to be discontinued, and top management needs to be jailed. Another example of corporate greed and no concern for the public well-being. The lawsuits should completely close them down forever. Feel sorry for the poor souls that had to work there!
