    No crampons, no ice axes, no climbing gear (like the ability to clip into the chains, no rope or gear to belay each other) shoes that are little more than sneakers, bet there there was no warm gear in case you got stranded by injury or weather...and probably no rescue beacon or headlamps to aid in a rescue. CONGRATULATIONS! Your "high fives" should be for the fact that you checked just about every single box of "WHAT NOT TO DO ON A HIKE IN THE WINTER"! And thanks for making a great training film for the rest of us.

    • @newbeginnings8566
      @newbeginnings8566 3 года назад +5

      Actually no crampons and ice axe would be pointless and dangerous... Crampons are for hard ice/snow.. Here we see snow and rock.. Crampons on rock are dangerous..
      Inner step spikes are what's needed..
      Next an ice axe is for aiding pulling and support in deep packed icy snow or ice.. They also serve to act as an arrester on steep packed slopes.. Here we have neither and no ice axe will stop you on a vertical fall like the drops here..

I used to be stupid in mountain climbing, cars and airplanes. The older you get you realize how stupid and foolish you were to dance in the jaws of death. When you do what you did, eventually your number WILL come up (Like it did for Dean Potter and countless others) like my nephew who got his ticket punched at age 21. He had 700 show up at his funeral and his friends blabbered on about how "they would never forget him"...they put up website and all the rest. 15 year years later the website is down and they've all forgotten about him. Wouldn't have been that hard to make this safer. Microspikes, rock climbing harness, and a couple of rock climbing and anchors and carabiners - you clip in as you go along (only unclip first anchor from one section after you clip the second anchor to the next section). Bare minimum you could buy a few meters of rock climbing rope, and just two carabiners and that would work (you can make a harness out of just rope). I think if you can go hiking in zion you can probably afford this bit a gear that would last several years.
    You might not mind the risk so much, but it's so inconsiderate to the people who love you and might be crushed by your death or life changing injury. Also there are people who would have to go out there and recover a mangled dead body - not nice stuff.
    Glad you guys were okay and I bet you're safer these days

    Did this last month. Less snow on trail. Most people who went to the top were with shoe spikes. I met a guy who is even less prepared than you guys with flat bottom sneakers. Without him I probably just gave up :)

    I’m happy you all made it back but as everyone has said not having the proper gear for the weather and terrain can be deadly. Yours hands must have been mighty cold on those chains.

    Sick! I’m doing it this winter too! The fun part is the down climb … I’ll have micro spikes tho I wanna be able to move a lil faster.

    And here all this time I thought icy rock and snow would be dangerous as hell without crampons with a thousand foot drop only two feet away on either side of a "slip". Peer pressure is a hell of a drug.

    I hope you guys don't hike like this often, it takes literally one unlucky millisecond mistake. Just a simple research on people that died on hikes would reveal what is wrong in this video. Nonetheless it is informational of what not to do.

    Ridiculously unprepared for this hike and unnecessary risks taken. With proper planning, gear and awareness Angels Landing is a safe hike with 0.0001% chance of fatality. Your odds were not in your favor. Lucky day for ya’ll and some likes on RUclips

      Technically very few people die on the Angles Landing hike, by the time they are done with the fall they are in another section of the park.

    Walking that hike in the snow and ice is asking for big trouble, it's already pretty dangerous, you add in snow, ice, or rain and top it off with a gazillion chipmunks crawling up your legs and you'd be lucky to make it down. Lol.

    When I saw the snow on the ground at the trailhead, I knew that was when they should have cancelled the hike. “Raise the speed limit, think of it as evolution in action.” Larry Niven

    And this is why they close trails. No spikes which would be the minimum. When I see people doing stuff like this I usually turn around. Do not want to watch someone die because the lack of basic gear.

    I was curious if there was any downfall....climbing footage of the event or if ya'll just slid to an untimely death. Truly the stupidest thing I have witnessed in the outdoor world. Nothing short of Angels preserved you. Part of big, epic adventure is style, grace, skill and mix of humility and chutzpah, none were on display here. You live and you learn is the hope of every parent.
