      well, then i have to let you down.
      I would have shaking knees and sweat all over my body and probably freeze not moving another inch after i have climbed 10 feet.
      Let alone 14.690 feet to walk on that small edge.
      Great respect for people to be able to do it.
      We were allowed to climb our Cathedral on the outside past year. It is a unique Cathedral and they had put scaffolding on the outside to restore it.
      And people were allowed to go up to parts of the Cathedral that you could otherwise never go to.
      See statues and decorations up close.
      I thought it was a great idea to do and so i went.
      But after 2 flights of stairs i almost wanted to go down again.
      Even though 100's of people had already gone up, i didn't trust the scaffolding.
      But, bit of encouragement from others made me go to the top like they did.
      With shaking knees, all the way to the top.
      Which is 55 meters. (the mid part, not the tower. )@@kaspareevald2264

    Those snow caps look like they're ready to break any second. How do you judge the stability of them and the risk of each step? It comes with experience I guess, but is there any indicator that says - no, not today, do not walk here or there?

  • @zennygreen
    @zennygreen 7 месяцев назад

    Nowadays more than 3,000 alpinists climb the Matterhorn every year, several times more than all the other 37 summits combined. During the summer months as many as 150 climbers or more attempt to reach the summit every day. The majority of climbers abandon their endeavours for various reasons, and an annual average of 1200 need to be rescued. Around 15 climbers a year - over 500 in total - set out but do not return alive, mostly through falls on the descent. Some 10% of these tumble to their deaths on the glacier below the Matterhorn and their bodies are never recovered.
