  • In this video I sit down with a fan who is also an entertainment industry executive, to discuss what we might realistically expect from a Bond 26 reveal, announcements, and the potential for official information. We ask all the pertinent questions: Who would want to see in a director? Will we go back to a formula of fun? Will it be a mix of older tropes, or a completely NEW approach? Will the actor be a surprise? We even discuss the question of what type of experience we want when Bond 26 finally debuts! Grab a drink and pull up a chair for this 007 chat...

    I’m a fan of espionage/assassin characters. Daniel Craig’s Bond hit the spot between silver screen attire and everyday wear. It’s like wearing a Casio DW-290 (Mission Impossible)because I’m on a mission and don’t want to deal with the mechanics of my more expensive watches while also wearing navy Herrington (Craig) over a black long sleeve polo (Connery), with black UA fitted stretch woven pants, UA black cap and UA black white sneakers (function and comfort). Lastly, I’m a fan of this channel and for some reason, DAVID, yes you, refuse to share what your wearing like the other video, Bond 26 that cardigan looked awesome. Best wishes as always! 🙌🏼😀

    "When in doubt go back to Fleming". I hope the Broccoli's still adhere to this mantra. I personally would love to see them take it a step farther in that they really go back to the sprit of Fleming. They mine the novels and short stories for not so much for plot but character, tone, setting and most important, personality. And yes, make it fun! Even after 26 films there's still much to be extracted from the Fleming books. Dalton and Craig did this very well. And I think you can have a Dalton/Craig/Fleming Bond and still have it fun!

    Bond fans are so nostalgic. Don't get me wrong, nostalgia has a place. But each new Bond keeps pace with the times. The one-liners became quite tired, for example. Younger audiences call them "Dad jokes". The old jokes are groaners today. EON needs to attract younger demographics, and move it along from being considered "Dad's film series". Seriously this is how most younger people view this franchise now.
    Bring in someone slick like Nolan and Villeneuve, and give them carte blanche over the film(s) they make. Let them write it, direct it, cast it, including Bond and give them every resource they want and you'll likely have a Bond film that attracts entire new generations to the franchise, in droves. Craig's run helped attract more audiences (Skyfall's box office should tell you that), and those new audiences all say they like serious Bond, not the slapstick, bad jokes Bond of old. Broccoli, hopefully, is spending time listening to Michael Wilson's sons too. They're at least younger and likely have a few fresh ideas.

    • @usernameinfo
      @usernameinfo 4 месяца назад +2

      The next set of Bond films being as serious as the Craig era would probably kill the series off for good, it is time we had some fun back, 'Dad jokes' and all. The core audience of Bond has always been older than other series, the source material was written for adults, unlike super heroes, computer game adaptations and Star Wars. I am genetically incapable of posting on RUclips without saying Nolan should not direct Bond, I am puzzled why so many think his pretentious pseudo Kubrick stylings are right for 007. His Batman films treat the absurd characters so humourlessly I find them unintentionally hilarious.

    • @danielscott8180
      @danielscott8180 4 месяца назад

      @@usernameinfo Disagree. Craig brought in bigger audiences than Brosnan. CR immediately knocked Die Another Day off the top spot, and then, of course, Skyfall, brought in a billion. This idea that Bond films can't be serious, or that a serious take isn't also fun is redundant. People want more from their heroes today that just something lightweight and forgettable.

    • @danielscott8180
      @danielscott8180 4 месяца назад

      @@usernameinfo Your views are a bit outdated, sorry. But Nolan is the business right now. You can't compare his Dark Knight trilogy with the MCU. His take on Batman is considered to be an adult take on superheroes. Nolan attracted younger audiences with his adult take on Batman. I find it an oxymoron to say that Bond attracts adult audiences but at the same time you want the films to remain kind of juvenile. It's not even pretentious to like the Dark Knight trilogy. You finding his Dark Knight trilogy unintentionally hilarious actually places YOU in a very small minority. Sorry, but Bond fans are an important foundation, but they are still not as legion as the general audience that EON wants to attract. Skyfall proved this. So many fans moaned and moaned about that film, and it is one of the very best in the franchise.

      @jamesatkinsonja 4 месяца назад +1

      @@danielscott8180 Very well put. The way people talk about the Craig films on comments sections, you;'d get the impression that his films were 'flops everyone hated' when they were all massive box office hits and clearly had a following while the Dark Knight trilogy were highly acclaimed and very successful [people like to bash 'Rises' but that was well received critically and made $1 billion]. Even the last Brosnan film is now over 20 years old so going back to that tone feels like a backwards step.

    Hmm, you didn't feel that Craig's Bond was a hero who could save the world? Man, I would feel a lot safer with that guy smashing his way through terrorists in Casino Royale than skinny Pierce Brosnan smirking his way through casinos and hotel rooms.
    Agree that they need to take a leaf out of Mission Impossible. What M:I does, when its not redoing old Bond stunts, is they try to show something audiences have never seen before, like that train hanging off a broken bridge. This used to be the wheel house of the Bond films.
    Cruise might be done after the next one, so Bond has an opportuntiy to reclaim the top spot. He originally said it would be the last, then said he was going to make them into his 80s. But then Dead Reckoning Part 1 flopped, and he's since signed up with Warner Bros. and announced Top Gun 3. Seems like DR hit him hard and his pivoting away from M:I like originally planned.
    Let's face it. Ethan Hunt is no James Bond. The character is a Bond clone without the interesting personality traits that elevate Bond to the top of the action pile. Bond DOES need those great action sequences that M:I has though. But, also, there are serious pacing issues with a lot of M:I's action sequences. Great stunts but they need a crack editor to bring them together. Bond has pacing down pat. They're the very best at pacing action in Hollywood. Nobody does it better.

Fleming was first of all a writer and storyteller, if that's something that would've make sense for a story he wanted to tell and as closure to the character journey, then he would've done it. Because that's what writers and artists do. Same with Craig/EON, having *this* Bond die just made sense for his particular character journey. We might like the execution more or less, but taking it as an attack on the fans and the legacy of the character is plain silly.

By this point I think most of the 'usual suspects' for casting can be ruled out if there over 40 as I'd expect the actor to be in there early to mid 30's. We're in a bit of a weird time in cinema as a lot of the established series [MCU, Fast & Furious] feel past there prime, John Wick is going the 'spin off' route and Mission Impossible underperformed last year [despite great reviews].

If you didn't like the studios ending to NTTD then get the AI to generate your preferred ending. You could even use the AI to have Casino Royale with a 30 year old Sean Connery or even put yourself in the title role.

    Taking a wild ignorant guess it's possible Eon has some very broad outline for Bond 26. It's possible a writer has pitched a few ideas, got an outline on paper. Eon may have some ideas what direction to consider. For example an obvious direction could be Bond vs AI or Bond vs AI robots or Bond vs enemy exploiting global warming. These seem reasonable story foundations for Bond 26.

    I would LOVE to see Eon touch on Marc-Ange Draco. What a plot device that's just been sitting out there! The father of Bond's deceased wife. The son-in-law who got his daughter killed. Draco has had time to digest his own decisions that led to Tracy's death and may, at this point even blame Bond to a certain point.
    A duo who could begrudgingly be forced to work together against a common enemy and by the end Draco couldn't just ride off into the sunset in his helicopters. He'd almost have to die and in doing so sacrifice himself to save Bond but not before coming to terms with James in regards to Tracy, also he'd leave the whole of his enterprises to James.
    A lot of avenues could be traveled in this thread. I only stop to wonder... Who would be the PERFECT actor to portray Draco present day??! I can just imagine a nod to OHMSS... "Do not kill me Mr. Bond... At least not until we've had a drink." Oh the possibilities.

Unless Amazon has some contractual stipulation to make Bond 26 by x date - and I'm assuming that wasn't part of the deal when Amazon bought MGM - there's no incentive for Eon to make Bond 26 any time soon. But after the recent news it all almost kind of seems pointless doesn’t it?
    At this point, it’s hard not to get a little angry and frustrated at what they are doing right now.
    I think Joe Darlington was right when he said a couple of years ago when he was analyzing NTTD’s ending that it was clear that they wanted to really truly END the character and the franchise and just take a break for awhile.
    We didn’t want to believe it - but Joe was right on the money.
    After that terrible ending,all of us fans were anxious for a quick reboot, but it’s become obvious that the filmmakers definitely were NOT.
    The article a couple of days ago, where Barbara said that absolutely nothing was happening with Bond 26 at all, basically confirmed this.
    And no,
    we have to stop kidding ourselves when we say they’re just keeping things quiet.
    I think they are actually doing nothing at all.
    The evidence is everywhere.
    Heck - she keeps TELLING us this.
    Maybe it’s time to start believing her.
    Here we are, all excited and watching videos speculating on this or that in Bond 26
    - meanwhile the people we are speculating about obviously just have no interest in James Bond at all anymore.
    As fans it is sad to see that the creators themselves just do not share our love and passion for our favorite franchise,
    but that sure seems to be the cold hard truth.

      Doing a re-boot a year or so after ending the Craig run never made no sense to me. I said on opening weekend to NTTD that the next film wouldn't be until 2025 at the earliest. having Dalton's first film straight after the Moore era when it was a very different tone didn't do him any favours while Brosnan and Craig came after a bit of a break so general audiences were ready to give them a chance to impress. Especially after Spectre+ NTTD had pretty troubled shoots they need to plan what there doing and probably are glad to sit out filming under Covid or the 2023 strikes. The average gap between Mission Impossible films in about 4-5 years and as a reboot you don't have to worry about continuing storylines or anything [and both John Wick 4 and Creed 3 were hits last year after 4/5 year gaps].

    All they need to do is get Henry Cavill as Bond, hire a big director like Christopher Nolan or Denis Villeneuve,and set it in the Cold War era. The cold war era removes the over emphasis of boring tech villains, and provides a fresh and interesting take on the franchise. Also, killing Bond in 25 has pretty much forced the franchise to go back in time. The Mission Impossible movies are almost done, and Bourne is long in the past. It's a perfect time to kickstart the franchise again.

    • @jamesatkinsonja

      The ending of Bond 25 doesn't make any difference to when Bond 25 is set as it will be a reboot anyway-Robert Pattinson's Batman has nothing to do with Christian Bale's Batman but is set in modern times as it's a new continuity. Taking 'Kingsman' into the past resulted in poor box office while the cold war set 'man from uncle' flopped back in 2015 so they might be nervous going in that direction. Argylle hasn't done Cavill for Bond' any favours either. As were sadly in a 'modern cold war' currently, it would make sense to do it modern times [and all of Nolan's action films have been contemporary].

    Umm, this "insider" has no new ideas other than what we already know. Also, I do not think you're going to be getting "milk chocolate" Bond considering Barbara Broccoli has said that the next film will be a "reinvention". Sounds like it might be fresh, like nothing we've seen before. She also has said that exploring Bond's psyche is here to stay, and wants a five-film continuing story like Craig's run.
    At the BFI event, Broccoli was sitting next to Denis Villeneuve. At the event he said he loves Bond, and a journalist asked Broccoli if she'd consider Villeneuve for the job. She immediately changed the subject and said she had to go and say goodbye to the PM. Looks like she's courting name directors to me, which, if true, rules out Edgar Wright, and makes someone like Villeneuve or Nolan likely.
    Nolan has had multiple meetings with EON over the last ten-plus years about the future of Bond. Like Broccoli, he has also said Bond needs a "reinvention" and Craig's tenure was heavily influenced by his Batman films. (CR was "Bond Begins" and Mendes has been open about the influence of The Dark Knight on Skyfall). So the natural next step would be a Bond film or three to be directed by Nolan.
    Broccoli has been trying to push the limits of the James Bond formula (the common tropes that form the typical narrative of a Bond film). She's returned to Fleming in a big way and is enamored by Craig's performance. So I'd expect that she isn't done with a serious, more character-driven Bond film.
    Yeah I would be very surprised if the next Bond director is female. Why? Because comparing Bond to what is happening in Star Wars is not a great comparison. The director of the Rey movie has made remarks about the male Star Wars audience that has pissed the fan base off. If Broccoli has any sense, she'll keep away from such divisive choices. NTTD was bad enough after Waller-Bridge did her "polish" on the script.

      They re-launch it every time a new Bond is cast-Dalton was very different to Moore for example-so it's nothing new and not worth being fodder for 'culture war' stuff frankly. It's worth noting that P W--B was a Daniel Craig hire, not a Barbara Broccolli one during filming [when things like the ending were fixed] and her main contribution was the Cuba sequence+ Paloma character. She said she didn't do much work on the script as most of her ideas were 'too camp' which is more the 'milk chocolate' some people want.

      @danielscott8180 4 месяца назад

      @@jamesatkinsonja interesting. The Cuba sequence was tonally out of place with the rest of the film. I feel this time they can't go back to lightweight after Craig. I know Eon often goes serious-lighter approach--serious. They have to compete with some big franchises now, so need to keep the quality high and audiences engaged. The goofy, almost slapstick approach of earlier Bonds just won't work with current audiences. I think this is why Barbara Broccoli is taking her time before announcing anything. She wants to get it right.
