    They all have their strengths and weaknesses. The Insta360 is fantastic for quick POV shots you can share on that ridiculous vertical format while still keeping a normal horizontal video: changing the aspect ratio is so important.
    The GoPro 10 has a full 10 photo 23mp raw image burst mode, which can be controlled over many different lengths of time, this makes underwater photography excellent.
    DJI does a fantastic job on video quality over both.
    The big glaring cons are
    Insta360 overheats easily, video quality is sub-par, and can only really record quick clips under 10 min or so
    The GoPro video quality is absolute trash in any level of low light, and the in camera stabilization will make it worse in overcast weather
    The DJI has no replaceable screen, so you scratch it you have to send it back. Also, the bottom module IS the battery, so replaceable batteries are now almost 100 bucks because you need more modules!

      That's a very fair assessment Tommy! My decision optimizes for ease of mounting and image quality in overcast weather, but everyone needs to optimize for their own needs.

      I was disappointed with DJI because they changed the design. It would have been better if they had the same design as DJI Action 1.

    Very nice shot on DJI Action 2 examples. So far you are one of the couple reviews who shows case how good the camera is on your sample footage (when you know how to use it). As far as GoPro, use the preset menu to create easy access to any type of shooting. Another accessory that you might want to have is Ulanzi magnetic mount. You can take your GoPro in and out easily.

      Thank you for the kind words. I'm not sure how much the results of the DJI Action 2 can be attributed to skill, but rather it is more that it is just better suited to the particular types of situations I shot in - below dark forest canopies (larger sensor), and extreme contrast with winter sunlight (quality lens). I did experiment with the GoPro modes, but didn't feel they provided a way around the rough edges I mentioned in the review. Magnetic mounting rocks, and I'm glad to here are there great solutions out there in the GoPro ecosystems!

    Adriel, great review of these 3 similar, but different cameras. Regarding the hassle of moving the GoPro (or other cameras) across different mounts - take a look at the Ulanzi Hummingbird quick release system. I use them on my road bike and have the small profile mount on my GoPro, insta 360 go 2 and insta 360 X2, with several of the corresponding mounts fitted on the bike, on a selfie stick, on a mini tripod, magnetic mount - you get the idea. Seconds to clip a camera on to a mount, and there’s a push button to release so the camera isn’t coming off the mount until you want it to.

    • @Davidb67
      @Davidb67 2 года назад +1

      Ulanzi also do a magnetic, twist lock mount. Tried those first and although I never had an issue, I had 3 concerns which the Hummimngbird mount system overcame - 1) the twist turn mounts are plastic, hummingbird system metal. 2) The twist turn mount has no safety-catch/lock, just relies purely on friction - i think the magnetic force is a slight back-up, but is there predominantly to aid quick location i think. The hummingbird has a push-release catch which unless pressed, the two halves will not come apart. 3) the hummingbird system has a lower “stack-height” than the twist turn mount. May not be an issue for some, but the reduced overall height of the mount assembly on the hummingbird system appealed to me in trying to keep the overall mount/assembly as compact as possible on the bike & mounts.

    Bought an Action 2 with just the regular power pack since it was on sale for 240 this week. Thanks for the review and comparison, it really looks like a great piece of kit and the sale pricing makes it way more palatable for someone who isn't much of a photographer/videographer! Somewhat regretting not getting the second screen module, didn't realize the mics made such a big difference but I never vlog towards myself and have no 1/4" mounts so I thought I'd pass.
    I was super surprised by how processed the GoPro video looked too, so much noise and sharpening compared to the DJI.

    I've been using an Osmo Action since it launched, moved from a Hero 7. I was excited when I saw the Action 2 but omg, there are too many drawbacks for me. As a hiker who likes to record the entire hike the battery life on the Action 2 and lack of replaceable lens protector, were deal breakers for me. Oh and the continual slowness in connecting it to the mobile app.... While I'm not loving the reviews of the Hero 10 it seems a pretty clear winner for me.

    I'm torn between the better resolution of a standard action cam and a 360. True the one RS with the dual kit can give me the best of both worlds, but if I can settle on not having 360 I'll be able to get better dynamic range with the larger sensor of the action 2.
    You mentioned 360 workflow being a hindrance which pushed you in the direction of a more standard action cam. Apparently the insta360 app is pretty easy to use for edits? I'm using this mostly for travel videos with family the 360 really gives me assurance I won't miss a thing.

    • @AdrielHenderson
      @AdrielHenderson  2 года назад

      Hi Anon! For me, the need to move footage from the Insta360 camera, over the camera’s in-built wi-fi, then process it in app and export it before being available to move into another editing app was far more fuss than I expected. It was slow and more than inconvenient and took any fun factor out of the camera real quick. Lesson learned, I will stay away from any camera which relies on in-app processing - I need files that are ready to edit the moment they are imported from the memory card. But, if you just want to post ‘stories’ directly from single takes, then the Insta app may work great!

    just purchased Insta360 GO 2 I was shocked by the temperature reached in a few minutes of recording to the point that it could not be held in the hand. even the battery life is absurd, 20 minutes in pro and 30 minutes in standard. the test was performed in winter with temperatures around 10 -15 degrees, in summer it will freeze after a while due to excessive temperatures. this is confirmed by official support !!.
    recharge takes 30-40 minutes ruining whatever ride you are doing.

      Thank you, Traian. I have not experienced any overheating, myself. But I am not intending to use this camera for continuous recording, so it isn’t something I have tested. For an upcoming video I did record a 4K 24fps clip continuously over 15 minutes for a montage and the camera was not hot at the end. Ramp that up to 60fps, and, yes it would probably get hot from the intense processing.

    Can the Dji Action 2 be mounted vertically out of the box?
    I know the Insta360 Go2 allows you to choose the aspect ratio on pro mode (16:9 or 9:16) even after recording has stopped.
    I'm wondering if something similar can be done on the DJI or even be mounted magnetically but for vertical video.

      Hi Guido! Yes, the Magnetic Ball-Joint Adapter Mount included in the dual-screen combo (or purchased separately) allows the camera to easily be set to a vertical format. Another option is to shoot in 4:3 format (4096 X 3072), which gives you the freedom to crop down in post to a full 4K 16:9 horizontal frame (4096 X 2160), a square frame at 3072 X 3072, or a vertical 9:16 frame at 1728 X 3072 which is still more resolution than the Insta360 Go 2 outputs. I hope that makes sense. ~ Adriel

    What is best?
    There are so many different types of ND filters that fit the GoPro Hero 10. My question is which one is the best, it's not a question of the price but from which company is the best.
    There are from Sandmarc, variable ND filters. Tiffen has 3 ND filters plus 1 Polarid filter. Polar pro Shutter Collection, Neewer 4 pack filter ND and Telesin has Circular Polarizer Filter. Maybe there are some other filters that are better?
    Grateful for answers.

    • @AdrielHenderson
      @AdrielHenderson  2 года назад

      I think there are some great reviews from others out there on the topic. Polarized filters are going to be the most important if you are near water, or trying to darken the sky. Look for a solution that allows you to stack a polarizing filter on top of the appropriate ND filter.

      Any iPhone "Pro" will be an excellent main camera. But, if you want to film yourself, an action cam like the DJI Action 2 can be more convenient because an iPhone can become an auxiliary viewfinder of sorts. The iPhone has excellent color and HDR reproduction, and will generally produce better results from the main camera than an action camera. I would start with an iPhone, and add a second camera from there. Check out a few of the other videos on my channel, where most of the shots are from an iPhone 11 Pro.

      Hi Vas, I don't believe there have been changes to the issues I experienced with the GoPro. The noise in low light is an issue of physics, due to a smaller sensor size. And the lack of preview in the app while recording seems to be an intentional limitation, possibly due to a legal case.

      Noise reduction is just idiotic! These guys reviewing cameras (action, cellphone) just focuces on noise so the manufacturer is keep upping noise reduction. No image is free of noise! Removing noise is destructive, making people look like they wear tons of makeup and remove details that cant be recovered in post processing.

      Hi Al, great to meet someone from a nearby place with similar interests! To your question - no, I did not add any noise reduction for this comparison, what you are seeing is what came out of both cameras in generally default settings. In fact, in some cases, I find I can add a bit of sharpening to the DJI Action 2 for a bit of punch. Adding noise reduction to the GoPro, in the lower light settings of the forest, would have resulted in a very soft image compared to the DJI Action 2.

    At 10:47, was the the unprocessed shot of Dji action 2? That looks pretty good.
    And liked and subscribed. I do look forward to seeing more video from you

      Thanks for the like and subscribe, appreciated! The two shots that open that sequence (~10:47) are B-Roll from my iPhone 11 Pro, which I happened to have handy when I was driving to the trailhead and saw the sun breaking through. That said, I find the lens and sensor of the Action 2 respond very similarly to the iPhone when shooting into the sun... see around the 6:20 mark for examples from the Action 2 in similar lighting.

      @@AdrielHenderson welcome! Sorry, I marked the wrong timestamp! I mean starting from 10:53, is that an edited or unedited shot from Dji action 2? It looks fantastically natural.

      @@jasonteo5839 Gotcha... I tend to shoot the DJI Action 2 in auto at about -.6 EV to reduce highlight clipping, then when editing lift the 'shadows' and 'gamma' sliders in Lumafusion to taste. I can't say that is what I did here, but likely.

      @@AdrielHenderson alright. I was hoping it looked like that straight out the camera, because I am a lazy editor. Still, I think edit will be minimal. Thanks man!

    Appreciate the video however there are some serious flaws - especially as you say the GoPro has 'an overprocessed look already baked in' (12:50) - The Gopro has many more settings including a flat profile specially designed for grading in post and is therefore much more flexible and pro than the Insta.

    • @AdrielHenderson

      You are right about the different color profiles on the GoPro, and I agree with your take when compared to the Insta360 Go 2. The Action 2 also has a flat profile, much like the GoPro, which can be useful in some cases but limited due to the limits of 8bit video. I did experiment with these different settings extensively but found the over-processed look in these deep forest scenes has to do with noise reduction and over-sharpening. Yes, those settings can also be tweaked, but ultimately the larger sensor of the Action 2 reaches just that much further into these darker forest scenes that I want to capture - try as I might, the GoPro shots simply would not stand up to what the Action 2 was able to deliver in this particular setting. Thanks for stopping by!

    What is the name of the music used in Head to Head segment of the video?

      Hi Nisarg, unfortunately I have already archived the project away so I can’t give you the exact selection, but all the music is from storyblocks.com. I hope that helps, and thanks for stopping by!

    hmmm this review is super positive some great shots taken with the DJI .... I'm shocked after seeing Camera Conspiracies scathing review (ruclips.net/video/UfVJ5QFknKM/видео.html) on the DJI action 2. ...i went with amazon and best buy reviews as the tie breaker. DJI get's destroyed in user reviews. I'm gonna give the GoPro a shot.

      The GoPro may be the better camera for many action sport situations, especially where long running recording is needed. The DJI is unique and different in some ways, I do wonder if that impacts the reviews from those very used to the GoPro ecosystem. Anyhow, I'm sure you will find the GoPro to meet your needs very well!

    Go2 only shot 5min, useless .
    DJI act, 2pcs design, bad concept.
    GoPro is a good camera but it can’t preview while recording.
    I did try AKASO, so far it works.
