Tool played this a couple of weeks ago in Sacramento. The breathing I was doing before the drop was such an emotional moment, and something I had been waiting for not only decades, but since I bought the tickets back in March. Super props for the Trainspotting reference! This has more to do with Jungian philosophy, and when Maynard became a father. He was afraid of becoming his father. It's a song about personal growth, and self-awareness.
I really enjoy your tool reactions. You really display intelligence in your analysis of the lyrics, and you pick up on the rhythm changes quickly. So many reactors get hung up by one or the other, or both. Loving this.
This genre of video is fascinating because everyone knows the feeling of playing a song you like for a friend and how much it sucks if they don't like it. You're just bottling up the feeling of them liking it and selling it for the internet lol
To me, MJK changed a lot between Ænema and Lateralus. I still love him, but this will always be my favorite TOOL album. It’s so damned dark, mysterious, and heavy…yet contains a level of super sophistication. Great reaction, man.
SIMPLE FACT ABOUT THIS SONG, the term forty six and two is referring to how we humans are born with 46 chromosomes and according to some very productive research on human evolution, many world renowned scientists claim that one day in the far future, humans will be born with 2 extra chromosomes therefore forever changing the face of humanity, this song refers to the transmutation (change) process as humans enter a higher level of understanding and intellect
I love your reactions, man! I would recommend investing in some really good over-ear headphones to truly have the best immersive TOOL experience! The Apple Airpods Max are a bit pricey ($550 or so), but they deliver the most comfortable and amazing sound I’ve ever heard in headphones, and they’ve made me want to rediscover lots of music👍🏻 You can demo them at most Apple stores. Or some other cheaper over-ear headphones could also be a lot better than just listening with earbuds or from a speaker. Worth the investment as a music reactor!
If the subject of Philosophy was a band it would be Tool. This song is based around subject matter relating to the philosopher Carl Jung. You touched the surface but as you know Tool dig a lot deeper. Worth reading more into it if your interested. It will blow your mind really. 🔥
The song is about facing the things inside you that you do not want other people to see or that you may be ashamed of and integrating it into your conscious 46&2 is referring to our Chromosomes we have 44&2 currently , the song suggest that we as a human race will evolve to the next level of consciousness and develop 46&2 giving us 48 Chromosomes instead of 46
I've always had the same interpretation. Additionally, while I consider myself spiritually homeless/bordering on atheist...I like to imagine if their were a god, and they were in fact sending divine messengers to earth...how dope would it be if people like Zoroaster, Abraham, Krishna, Moses, The Buddha, Jesus, Mohammad, Bahá’u’lláh--all in fact had 28 chromosomes and were somehow tethered to "the source". I dunno. I just smoked, so there's that.
"A popular belief is that the song title refers to an idea first conceived by Carl Jung. But this seems in error as no relevant citations to Jung on such an idea seem to be available."
