One of Trudeau's first acts as PM was condemning human rights violations by Saudi Arabia. He was one of the only world leaders to speak up against the Saudis and I was proud of him. However, the fact that there is a long history of people from various backgrounds visiting and commenting on the land. This includes journalists and artists who have documented the barrenness of the land in the 19th and 18th centuries. It was only with the arrival of Jewish migrants in the 20th century that the land began to be developed and transformed into what it is today. They did not take the land from anyone, as it was largely uninhabited. The only notable town, Ramallah, was built by Arabs, but it is important to recognize that the rest of the land was undeveloped and they have worked hard to build it into what it is now.

In 1948, Israel declared its independence and took responsibility for the refugees in the region. However, the Arab nations, instead of taking care of their own people, chose to invade and try to conquer the small land that was declared independent. This caused a refugee crisis for both sides. The Arab nations instructed a couple thousand Syrians and Iraqi Arabs to leave their homes in a matter of days, promising that they could return once the war was over. I was listening to a person from Gaza who described his Mum passed away because she was denied travel/prevented from leaving Gaza even for cancer treatment abroad.
