I hoped to understand something out of this, unfortunately i have to keep looking for videos that will explain what exactly is hypothetical constuct. this just got me more confused
Something made up to explain something else. Example - your “mind” decided to do something. You made up “mind” (hypothetical) to explain doing something. That’s a no no in science.
Yes. So to recap you are using circular reasoning (logical failure) with a hypothetical construct (mind is hypothetical and cannot) and then reifying that construct (make something hypothetical real - logical error) to make it cause something (eeek). Put that all together and that’s an explanatory fiction.
No but to answer my question 3 years later A hypothetical construct is an abstract concept used in research or theory-building that cannot be directly observed or measured, like intelligence or motivation. So operationally defining a concept in measurable terms would be a good start. So a hypothetical construct is in relation to research, while circular reasoning is a logical error in argumentation.

@@PsychCore Wouldn't this be circular reasoning because you can say you're doing something because "you made up 'mind'"?

😂😂 the last line
Ryan so the way out of using hypothetical constructs is to operationally define the construct? Is this at least a starting point?
did you ever find out the answer to this great question?

THank you!
