I hoped to understand something out of this, unfortunately i have to keep looking for videos that will explain what exactly is hypothetical constuct. this just got me more confused

Something made up to explain something else.
Example - your “mind” decided to do something. You made up “mind” (hypothetical) to explain doing something.
That’s a no no in science.

@@PsychCore Wouldn't this be circular reasoning because you can say you're doing something because "you made up 'mind'"?

Yes. So to recap you are using circular reasoning (logical failure) with a hypothetical construct (mind is hypothetical and cannot) and then reifying that construct (make something hypothetical real - logical error) to make it cause something (eeek). Put that all together and that’s an explanatory fiction.

Ryan so the way out of using hypothetical constructs is to operationally define the construct? Is this at least a starting point?

did you ever find out the answer to this great question?

No but to answer my question 3 years later
A hypothetical construct is an abstract concept used in research or theory-building that cannot be directly observed or measured, like intelligence or motivation. So operationally defining a concept in measurable terms would be a good start.
So a hypothetical construct is in relation to research, while circular reasoning is a logical error in argumentation.
