- This what I use to fertilize my trees in containers.
Shake and feed with NPK and micronutrients. Miracle Gro or any other fertilizer with micronutrients.
Fish emulsion fertilizer. Alaska fish fertilizer.
Root stimulator. Ferti-Lome.
You will see great results.
Looks good… fish emulsion is a good fertilizer no doubt…. Synthetic fertilizers are good as long as you don’t over do it .. correct.Thanks for sharing 😊

If you want to see your mangoes really take off then feed a little bit every 2 weeks. Mixing it with the soil doesn't do anything as the fertilizer will break down and find its way to the roots anyway. What you want to do to protect the fertilizer from being hit by rain and knocked out of the pot is to put some leaves on top to keep the rain from messing that up, or even mulch works too. I even use Spanish moss to do that too.
Very well done. I like to use a blend of synthetic and organic also. When the trees are young I want growth so nitrogen is provided in higher quantities. Once the trees structure and size is developed I avoid giving nitrogen. Nitrogen will cause poor fruiting. Better to use minerals, Phosphorus and Potassium for healthy growth and productivity. I think the biggest challenge is the soil type and the watering??? I'm in california and I'm starting to add sand to my soil that has no forest products
In container you control the soil. My mix is 40% sand, 20% peat moss, 20% pine bark nuggets, 10% compost, 10% perlite. In the ground native soil and mulch. I water my containers every day specifically on drought season. Establishes trees only when they flowering and the fruit is small. This year I water a little more, because we didn’t see rain in months. I know California is different.
The plants looking really healthy! The sapodilla, next to ice cream and the jackfruit in the greenhouse are growing strong too!

To plant the mangoes from containers you can do it even when they are small, I prefer for them to get a little stronger. Usually when they are to waist high and they look strong. I keep most of my mangos in containers because of the cold. If you want to plant I will way for spring.
@@americancubangardener Thanks for the info. I am also in 9B, but in Bay Area and so I follow your advice. However, the climates are very different -- we have winter rains, dry summers and more cool/cold nights than in Central Florida.
I live in Orlando also . Occasionally during winter it gets down to 32 degrees for a couple of days . Do you bring the plants indoors ?
No. I protect them with different things. I have a few videos on that. I use cattle panels, burlap, heaths, incandescent bulbs and more.

My mango trees each have mulch. Do i remove the mulch and put the fertilizer on the dirt or should i put it on top of the mulch?
I will remove the mulch. Put the fertilizer mix with the soil a little bit, water really good and then put the mulch back.
How often do you water in trees in containers 2-3 times a week or less?
Honestly it just depends on the weather and the container size. In cold weather 2 to 3 times a week, summer every other unless it rains. But I always do the finger test before I water.
How often are you watering the mangoes in the pot ?
Right now every day. It’s to hot.
What's the reasoning for a 15 Gallon bucket? Are they all going in the ground at some point in the near future? You selling them?Is 15 Gallon a size they could stay in for a few years? I have two 2 years old Mango trees that are now in ~10 gallon buckets and I'm wondering what I should put them in next. Any suggestions? I would like to keep them in a container/bucket for at least 3 more years. Thank you!
I keep most of my mangoes in containers, because it’s easy to protect them from cold weather. I have 4 in the ground the rest still in containers.
I will suggest to up pot them gradually. Remember the bigger the canopy, the bigger container they will need.
I usually go from 3g to 7g, 7g to 15g and 15g to 25g. All depends on how fast they are growing.
Hi what is the.best potting soil mix for dwarf mango tree ?
I made my own. 25% pea moss, 25% sand, 20% pine bark, 15% pearlite, and 15% compost. Well drain with enough nutrients and airflow.
