Yup I believe around 300 animals a year? Not to mention the torture of cows for their milk and chickens for their eggs, that I didn't support. But to me the ethical side was just a bonus in the hindsight, like for the most long-term vegans I guess. Non of us is a saint. ;)

Miss Deluxe I can really relate to that.. It's incredible before I went vegan I didn't care much about farmed animals although I was vegetarian but mainly for health. Then vegan at first for health but now I think the ethics became even more important to me and I'm just happy that it happens to be the healthiest diet as well. Also aesthetics are an important reason now why I'm vegan I just find dairy (pus) and corpses often contaminated with fecal bacterias just too disgusting to consume lol

Han Boetes I am planning on getting my family onto a vegan diet. I am currently 32 , almost 33 weeks pregnant and knowing I plan to have this little one Vegan from birth excites me. My children are still young as well (5 year old and 3 year old) where I am excited about them going through the little changes now so they crave the healthy foods as adults. *we dont eat super bad now...but knowing we can do so much better for our bodies excites me to make the change* ♡♡

I can't help but hope that my back pain will decrease enough for me to ride a bike. I have not done so in 24 years. Looking forward to enjoying lots of physical activity. The vegan lifestyle is new to me; I started a week ago. But, it is easier than I thought, and I will be able to stick with it.
I went vegan because of animal rights/ethics, and at the time I thought I might be compromising my health by doing so. Your channel, along with others and my own research, has helped with my peace of mind on this issue. Haven't had a blood test yet, but I feel better, and haven't gotten sick once since changing my diet. I used to ALWAYS get sick.

I used to catch colds whenever they came around, especially during Winter... After going vegan, I had one mild cold last Winter, and was otherwise healthy. :)

Today I made some whole food Gado Gado and baked some potatoes in the oven and some sweet potatoes by first coating them a little with brown almond butter, my children were just shocked and said they were the best tasting potatoes they had ever had. Also the first time ever they hadn't even noticed there were sweet potatoes in there. They were the Japanese ones, that look white when pealed. The gado gado I made with some blendered pear to sweeten, and some apple vinegar to sour, then started by baking some onions and garlic in some water with tahini, and added curcuma in the mixture. Then after that I added some water again with the cabbage and pear, also some pear chunks. To salten it slightly I used some mild tamari. Then put the lid on for about 5-10 minutes to soften the veggies. It was downright delicious!! Finished the whole off with some chopped almonds.
Period pain?
1. Go vegan, or, at least cut out dairy, sugar, and other refined foods.
2. TAKE YOUR PERIOD VITAMINS, especially MAGnesium!!! (Take mag 2-3x in the week before)
3. Drink a sufficient amount of water.
4. Enjoy a shorter, non-painful period.
Also eat a lot of soy :)
Lots of Vegan girls have hard problemsmwith period and fertility.. I mean its good that you stopped eating trash foods thats why some people get better but going to herbivore diet ( that we are not) will bring also problems time to time..

Been vegan going on 5 years now and I've never felt or been better in every measure of health! I actually never even dreamed that my health could reach levels like this. It blows my mind every day and it just keeps getting better every year! I'm so thankful and utterly awestruck.
Edit: Example A - I never enjoyed working out. Even when I would work out extensively every single day and developed a significant amount of muscle, I enjoyed the benefits, never the working out. After switching to whole foods, plant-based my energy levels rose, I began to ENJOY exercise (something that had NEVER happened to me before), and eventually those both itensified to the point that I will just get bursts of nearly uncontrollable excitement energy that just feels like joy on caffeine, and it drives me to work out! I LOVE the feeling of working out and will go harder than ever during these energetic bouts, simply releasing excess energy by default. As a baseline, when I push my body, it feels great. When I rest, I feel great. When I eat, I feel rapturous for some time after. Something truly breathtakingly precious has happened to me

Thanks, Mic, for all your help. I was a vegetarian for over 36 years for moral reasons but I was afraid to go all the way to vegan because I didn't understand the science. More recently I was eating two eggs a day from the chickens in my neighbor's backyard You, and others, have helped me understand that I can maintain my own health while saving the animals and I have happily and proudly become a vegan. OMG, the inflammation part is so true,I have endometriosis and was at healthy weight when I turned vegan so i didn't really have any weight to drop but within 3 weeks I lost 2inches of my hips and my pants did not fit anymore, didn't workout at all and did not lose a gram on the scale , 2 inches just disappeared!

I struggle keeping on my vegan lifestyle. I try to stay away from all meats and I don’t eat dairy. But when I do brake the habit and start eating crap sweets and other junk , the inflammation starts to come back in my joints just need to fight my food addictions . Great video Mike

All my pain is GONE , Fibroid pain gone and no period, was having heavy horrible periods! Arthritis pain GONE and stomach pain GONE I lost 10 pounds and dont know what to do with all this energy ...literally! Oh and I planked and feel amazing and my skin does too and my cholesterol went from 210 to 141 ... so I feel amazing better at 41 than I ever did at 21
I've been trying to inform my friends that are suffering with lower back pain, but they just want to keep getting back surgeries, popping opiates, and sucking on bacon.
I know the struggle but in the end of the day they are grown ups and have to pay the consequences of their choices. Something I've learned is that people won't change if they don't have the will to do so...

It boils down to fear of the unknown. Adopting new habits is a huge hurdle for most people. The first step is adopting a more open mind set. Then you need repitition. You have to stay mindful. Most people are on an autopilot program most of the time.
Oh my god I used to have lower back pain all the time and I don't struggle with it anymore! Never correlated it with being vegan.
been vegetarian for over half my life, but as i become more 'body positive' and actually care about myself the more i find myself naturally adopting a vegan diet, these informative and most importantly factual videos are the push i needed to really cut out the remnants of any animal produce and the few processed foods left in my diet.

Been whole food vegan for almost 2 weeks. All body odour is gone and my shoulder impingement injury and tennis elbow have 99% disappeared. Finally working out intensely again and two kg down and building some new muscle!
Just subscribed. Great information. Was primarily vegetarian for about 20 years. Back in the day I suffered from chronic fatigue. I basically had the health of a 50 year old when I was 27. Been vegan for over a year and I feel better than ever. I am now a cyclist. I'm about to be 47 and I have so much energy. I feel like I can do anything.
I unfortunately didn't lose much weight, but my stomach has never been more flat!
I actually go to the gym so no need for pointless walking. And yes, it may be bcuz I'm gaining muscles, but all my fat ain't gonna turn into muscles so I should lose like 5kg or so. I'm 5ft.3 and 57kg so I'm not fat, but I'm not a stick figure either so idk why I'm not losing anything.

this is actually so very true about the "eat as much as you want and you'll still be losing weight" thing. ive started off as a junk-food addicted vegetarian and its been two years now, i'm vegan, i still love junk food (eventhough i don't eat as much of it as i used to) and i was shoked to see that i've lost 37,5 lbs. weight loss wasnt even my goal initially but im so happy about it hehe

2 years vegan and I am reaping the rewards of increased VO2 MAX when playing football or training calisthenics.
This comforts me a bit (the Adventist diabetes study) because I’ve been worried about my blood sugar eating mostly fruits and vegetables only. I’m trying to listen to my body and I’ve been enjoying a lot of fruit and veg at once but I have been worried that the high blood sugar will give me belly fat.
That study at 02:00 I was lucky to meet one of the doctors. Was life changing for so many people involved as they didn't have much of a clue how to keep weight off and they were all very sick with diabetes and other major health issues. In a matter of weeks they were healing and they were so enthused with their results they just won't return to their old foods.

I was on a meat and fat based Keto diet trying to lose weight, and felt like death was incoming. My fitbit showed a 10 bpm average increase in heart rate from the time i started tat diet, to the time i ended it. i was getting chest pains, poor sleep, lethargic, belly pains, the list goes on... when i had an unexplained heart rate jump from doing nothing, i started to look for a change.
that's when i fond Mic. the Vegan! you convinced me that i could reverse the poor way i felt by eating vegan, so i dove in full force. it was a leap of faith, and i have never made such a good decision in my life! my heart rate is normal again, i sleep, i have energy, my... "man bit" is noticeably bigger... my digestive system is active and healthy feeling, that bowel inflammation clearing out is a unique experience when you realize how easy it gets to move things along.. lol

Hey Mic - Thats great info - I am both Vegan now and athletic - Its totally transformed me - I can run and cycle at speeds beyond many of my peers 20 years younger - My VO2 Max just hit 66 - I am 57 !!! Not to mention the healthy weight loss!! Never felt better or fitter. Keep up the good work.

Such a wealth of knowledge! I can assure you that ridding myslef of diary from my diet was the best thing I could have done to fix my acne woes. Cleared up my skin and no more do I have an oily face after literally just one week of no diary products. (I used to eat a lot of cheese along with yogurt and milk)

I went vegetarian for a year & my eyesight improved . The optometrist had to decrease the power of my glasses. He couldn't believe it. Checked 3 times. So that led me to going vegan. I am new to being vegan & still learning. I have lost 11 lbs & have noticed my energy level has increased! Thanks for these videos! 😋

I am so excited. I have been off my bike for four years, doing physical therapy rehab. But I was slowing down, and turning into an OLD man. Even so I could get on the podium of very difficult races. I laughed thinking instead of being in a bike race, I should have been in a hospital bed. Now I'm getting ready to build up a new bike and ride again. In the meanwhile, I've stopped all animal products. My hope is that there will be a big surprise in my fitness. These videos have given me a lot of optimism.
O my gooodness my new doctor told me to go Vegan a month ago because I had a extremely high inflammation mark. The highest she ever seen. I was in A LOT of pain. At first I thought she was crazy for suggesting that I go Vegan but after a month of being a Vegan I believe she is the smallest doctor I ever met. Before the fatigue and pain was so bad that I would cry every day. Now I feel amazing. I still have some pain but I feel muuuch better then before. Your video really helped me understand why I feel so amazing. Thank you.
Thank you Mic for quoting actual research studies. Those are the PRIMARY reports that lend credibility to the vegan argument. But since testimonials help too, let me say I've been a vegan now for 21/2 months. I made the change because my diabetic feet were killing me and keeping me awake all night. I now have about 30 percent more feeling in my feet and it's getting better every day. Pain is greatly reduced. Blood pressure went from 130/95 to 119/70. Blood sugar went from 200 to 131. Fibromyalgia pain is almost gone. YEAH!!!!
I've seen a huge difference in my 7 year old who was diagnosed with asthma when he was 2. He runs and plays and hasn't needed his inhaler (rescue). My 3 year old is having a sleep study in a couple of weeks because he would stop breathing and would choke in his sleep, not anymore. This is with 3 weeks into a vegan diet. We see their doctor in 3 days to follow up. So excited!

One weird thing that happened to me is that now when bacon is cooking, i notice a strange underlying note of pig manure. It's so weird. Most people love the smell of bacon but it smells like literal shit to me now.
I went plant based about 2 years ago and have lost about 120 pounds. I started for health reasons. I was needing a walker to get around and Taking Zantac and basically eating tums like candy for a hiatal hernia. Also taking Ibuprophen for lower back pain. No longer on any of these meds and no longer using a walker. Walking and moving around a lot faster and able to do my dancing the way it should be done. The bronchitis I get twice a year during weather changes (from summer to fall and from winter to spring) doesn't last as long as it used to (One month now from three + months before). Now I have some excess skin that I need to lose somehow,

Remember that a vegan diet for weight loss really only works the more WFPB you eat, not so much for junk food. I’ve gained a ton of weight working remotely and eating vegan junk food. Back on WFPB and losing again.
How does it feel that you have become the one that literally EVERY lazy vegan refers to.. Like, the amount of times I've heard or said the phrase "I am pretty sure Mic. The Vegan has a video on that" is beyond me :D your channel has become the vegan Google. It has everything we need.

I'm 26 and I'm a transitioning vegan.. I grew up in a jamaican household and this is a huge challenge for me. I'm only doing this because I want to reverse the fibromyalgia symptoms and eventually stop taking meds. I definetly don't want to lose weight since I'm only 100 lb.

excellent video! also, lets not forget the other substantial finding by Esselstyn MD. nitric oxide!! this substance found from consuming a whole foods vegan diet vastly increases vascular elasticity (ability for arteries and veins to stretch) allowing them to vasodilate much easier, allowing greater blood flow, along with the unclogging of the cholesterol and saturated fat also contributing to this as well! and the nitric oxide from the plant based diet not only allows for greater vascular elasticity, but also stronger vessel walls! one will have more substantial vascular structure, virtually eliminating your risk for any kind of vessel bursts, aka aneurysms. also having strong vessel walls greatly reduces your risk for varicose veins and those squiggly looking veins bursting out of body builders in their 50s and 60s and sometimes you see these large bulging squiggly veins on the legs of people, mostly older men. just a little input from your fave vegan nurse ;)
I've always wanted to go vegan. The hardest thing for me to leave behind would definitely be seafood & Dairy, but seeing all of these health articles on the benefits of eating a vegan diet trumps all of my cravings. I'm a cook, so it's hard to resist eating the food I grew up on, but whenever I watch one of Mic's videos, it makes it soo much easier.

I feel much better, think much more clearly, and have far more energy. Those are just immediate benefits, but the long term benefits of health and avoiding the harm caused by animal products is a nice plus. Thanks for another well researched video Mike!

Great video as always! Part 3 on allergies and veganism? I used to be allergic many fruits and pollen. Been vegan for 3 months and I no longer get any allergic reactions! And the pollen is worst this time of year!

Okay...My gut's been telling my to do this for years and I finally went vegan on April 21 - It is June 18- I'm down 20 lbs... really easily, i might add. I eat piles of fruits, veggies, potatoes... and some bread ( veggie sub maybe once a week.)...some vegan Indian food from a place nearby.... I love this change in my eating. I now know SO MUCH of my health stuff was about inflammation - not age. Within 2 days it felt like i lost "inflammation weight" somehow.

Awesome vids, I'm literally done with meat and animal products... had a horrible experience last night. I woke up this morning and ran to the store to buy so many vegetables!!! I had my first spinach salad and I'm feeling much better. It was never hard for me to eat vegetables anyway lol.

I started my vegan diet about 1-2 months ago, and I've lost about 10lbs, gained some muscle (I just do some moderate gardening and digging, yard work)
I have seen some improvement, like high endurance and breathing ability. (I play with my friends' dogs every now and then.)
Also, I have had a bit of a struggle with eczema my entire life (I'm 21) and in the past few years I've had some bad acne. This has all cleared up. Now it's only the stray pimple or irritating bug bite or stick scratch here and there.
My conscience has also cleared up. ;>
My mental take on life has improved. I'm one happy vegan!
Truth. My glasses prescription went down an entire point in each eye and I couldn't be happier! Call it dumb luck or wearing my glasses less now that I'm not in school, but I blame it on the veggies.
Tell me more about this, the mainstream generally tells you myopia is irreversible.
Exotic Parallel Sure! Love to! Yeah, that's what my jackass optometrist said when I asked if I could fix it and his response was laughing at me and telling me to get LASIK.
I had an eye exam in 2014 and one eye had improved a quarter of a point within 9 months of me being done with school so less computer time and less reliance on glasses for class, I can see how that might happen, or at the very least I can see my vision not getting worse. That was also a change measured over the course of 4 years since my last exam had been in 2010. But a year after that 2014 appointment I went vegan and a year and a half after that, my prescription had gone down an entire point in each eye. Prescriptions are said to be good for 2 years and then they may change a little, but 6 months after my prescription allegedly expired, there had been a drastic change. I asked what my prescription was, my new doc casually told me what it was since she didn't know my old prescription and I said "NO WAY, that's crazy!!!" She looked at me like I was indeed nuts, but at least she didn't say that it shouldn't have happened when I told her why I was surprised. It was more of a "good for you! Now go look at frames while your eyes dilate," kind of thing. The only thing that had changed from my previous appointment (aside from a horrible concussion that if anything probably would have made things worse) was the change in diet, and it makes sense to me.
Reduce inflammation in your body and your eyes will stop puffing in weird shapes? Like how when you get a stomach bug so you take it easy for a while with a lot of clear liquids and things get better since your body isn't using all of its energy to digest your food. And I know the whole "carrots improve your night vision" thing was an explanation our military gave Germany to hide our radar technology, but if you're eating a more nutrient dense diet with a lot more calories, then those nutrients are going to go in and fix what's broken without your body worrying about having enough energy to keep you vertical. Really, the widespread plague of craptastic eyesight has only kicked in in the last couple of centuries as far as I can tell, and that's about when we started hardcore messing with our food supply and eating a lot more animal products. Sure, one could argue that cars were slower or nonexistent and classes were smaller and street signs weren't as prevalent so someone may not have noticed if they had bad eyes as easily as we do now, but they looked at the stars for a sense of direction and that's pretty important so I feel like if you couldn't tell where you were going you would know there was an issue.
I've read some commentary and some people have been vegan far longer than I have and their eyes have gotten worse so maybe they had some genetics at work there or I'm just lucky, but the basic science makes me feel like my reasoning is somewhat sound. It could also be partly that the arteries cleared out and improved circulation, similar to the erectile dysfunction solution that Mike frequently sites, although myopia being a lense shape issue my money would go on the bulk of my improvement being due to the inflammation side of things. But I'm not a doctor, just someone who would love to see some research done on this stuff and is super excited to pop some weak lenses in her frames!
Sorry, that's a lot of rambling but my science brain likes to argue different theories and play devil's advocate with me. On the bright side, in really comes in handy when I have to circumvent internet troll responses (and I've been doing that a lot lately)!
I undertand what you are theorizing but what you just said was a lot of pseudoscience. Diet has implications for macular degeneration, cataracts, diabetetic retinopathy and other degerative eye diseases. But myopia is NOT a disease or illness.
I don't know your exact circumstance of the condition you have, but from the research I have done there is no evidence that diet leads to myopia.
(BUT WAIT THERES MORE)
The myopia industry is even worse than the whole animal products industry in a lot of ways. The people that make money off of lens sales and surgery will tell you either myopia is genetic or there is no cause. But the cause of myopia is known well in science.
Your eyes are designed for distance vision, when you are constantly looking up close it causes the action of your ciliary muscle to shape the lens in your eye so you are able to see up close again. After a long time, this muscle becomes strained. Think of what happens when you close your fist tightly for a few minutes and then try to open it again? Your hand will spasm and struggle to relax. Now imagine repeating this action 10 hours a day each day for months or years. The Same action happens within your eye, wherein when your ciliary muscle becomes fatigued, and now you perceive a blur. it is like you are (stuck in close up). After a long time, this issue can become chronic. This is a known as Near Induced Transient Myopia in clinical optometry.
Now what happens is you go to the optometrist and this SYMPTOM is misdiagnosed with minus lenses. If the client is not told to limit the near induced stimulus then the initial problem COULD become worse. Here's why. What you have to understand is minus lenses are a fixed correction, it does not change. But the advanced biology of your eye doesn't know that. Now when you look up close again when using these lenses, the focal plane (where light focuses) is now behind the retina, and this is known as hyperopic defocus. The eye is abe to understand what to do to correct this defocus, to shape the ciliary muscle to regain focus. However if the ciliary muscle is unable to regain focus, the eye must formulate a new response.
What happens next is your optic nerve sends a signal to the visual cortex that there is a defocus that the ciliary muscle cannot correct for any longer, a signal is then sent back to the eye to activate neuromodulators on the retina to increase the axial length (length from cornea to the retina) and make the eye longer so that the focus is put back onto the retina and stress is taken off of the ciliary muscle. (This is all shown in thousands of clinical epidemiological studies as Pseudomyopia, or Near-Induced-Transient-Myopia, we will call it NISM from here on out)a hormone is released that causes the sclera tissue to become kind of elastcy so it can stretch. And a collection of neuromodulators than regulate the corneal thickness, anterior chamber depth and most importantly, axial length.
Axial length is the distance from the rear cornea to the posterior retina. And this is the main issue in myopia. The eye will regulate its growth until proper focus is regained.
NISM may be the result of just a ciliary spasm or a few microns of axial elongation, however, the result is the same, a new problem has occurred. That is when you now look into the distance you perceive a slight blur, this takes years to develop and is very slow. So what do you do? You go to the optometrist and they give you a minus lens. It seems like when you put these glasses on that the problem is fixed, but really what happened is it has compensated for a defocus by curving the light for you. But what happens when you now look up close? Now there is a major defocus causing the eye to rapidly increase the axial length and depending on various factors like length of time in near, genetics, depth of field, level of defocus your eyesight in the distance will again be off, and now you need to get new glasses to see once again, this cycle continues for however long you allow it to, despite the popular myth optometrists like to tell that "your eyes are growing" or "getting used to". I know people and I'm sure you know people who have gotten there the first pair of glasses in their thirties.
HOW TO REVERSE MYOPIA:
In the same way, myopia is induced with a minus lens and close up, it can be reversed with a reduced minus lens and distance. This means finding out your prescription and reducing it down until you can see 20/50 on the eye chart. Now what happens when you look in the distance is your visual cortex receives a signal that there is a defocus again, but this time the image is perceived in front of the retina, rather than behind as before. If the visual cortex can perceive which direction this defocus is coming from it will give the opposite effect and tell the eye to shorten axially, this includes corneal thickness, as demonstrated in hundreds of studies on animals and humans alike.
Here is the important part, the hardest part about this is to get the visual cortex to understand which direction the defocus is coming from. This was shown in a study that was unsuccessful in reversing myopia. The researchers concluded that this was a result of the visual cortex being unable to detect the direction of defocus and thus grew longer in response. Other studies, however, have proven without a doubt that the retinal control system and axial elongation and shortening of the human eye do happen, as previously discovered in animal studies. So the question is how to get the visual cortex to understand the defocus and what the to do to correct it, this is where you can look into active focusing which seems to be the most successful method.

Went vegan from Pescatarian at the start of this year because my cholesterol was very high. Heart disease runs in my family.
Thought from all of the RUclipss and talk that I would be able to eat as much as my appetite desired and maintain my weight.
Even though I have been watching my oil intake ( almost none), refined sugar (none), I have gained weight.
So if one is worried about becoming too skinny, I would not worry. I would like to be slimmer, but I am not over weight and strong.
After what I have learned about disease spread because of animal factories and even just farming, and how cruel that it is to other beings that we share this planet with , I have n.o intention of harming animals again. I can live with my extra muscle, it probably will help in my old age and an extra cushion if I were to get ill.
