    I know alot of people in the USA eat pickles and they love to pickle things dont know about in Germany

      Ok, yes! Germans are very big on pickling, like pickles and sauerkraut. German settlers helped introduced pickling to us. It would be a natural assumption, that the tradition started in Germany. That's probably why people believe the story so willingly. The Germans started making vegetable glass ornaments, and Americans saw them...maybe a salesman invented the story to sell his supply of pickle ornaments that no one would buy (because they blended with the tree). And that may have spread...who knows?! LOL! I like pickles once in a while, mixed in certain dishes, but I rarely eat them whole. Pickled (boiled) eggs and beets are wonderful! It's only a sugar/ vinegar mix with pickling spices. The eggs come out a pretty shade of pinkish/purple (popular around Easter) and soak up some of that sweet and sour taste.. The sliced beets in the mixture turn out well too.
