There is an error in the information for Mexico from 1840 (12,442) to 1850 (12,558) (Difference 116). In 1848 the Treaty of "Guadalupe Hidalgo" was signed, which ended the war between the United States and Mexico, as a result California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Nevada, Utah, etc. stop being from Mexico and go to the United States. There were approximately 100,000 Mexicans living in those lands that are not counted in the video.
I was thinking the same, literally all of what people considered the WEST and more specifically the South West were all MEXICAN territories until 1948 that means more than 70% of what we call Texas today, all of NM, AZ, CA, portions of CO and UT.
So the 'MEXICAN' population was already in place long before the territory succession.
