  • Karl, or in his Korean name, 권민규, started learning Korean with Talk To Me In Korean back in 2014. After about 2 years of self-studying and 9 months of studying abroad in Seoul, he is very fluent in Korean now. So we sat down with him to ask him some questions about how he studied. I have been learning Korean for two years now and have made very little progress because I am also working on getting 2 bachelor degrees and working. Now that my university career is winding down and I will be graduating soon I will have more time to dedicate to learning Korean before I move to Korea in August to teach English. I discovered your books and lessons only a month ago and have learned so much more through the first few lessons of level one than any other resources I have tried. 민규 has inspired me to try harder to make time for language learning! I also watch 런닝맨 to listen to how words are naturally pronounced! Thank you guys for offering easy to understand, and quite affordable, books and workbooks to those of us studying on my own. I have recommended your lessons to a friend who just started learning Korean and she loves them!

@@Myyyyyyylobeeeee I've been coming across your comment for so long now, that I feel your question needs to be answered.
The fact is that nobody can tell you the exact time you need to learn Korean or any language or any thing for that matter. As learning is different for everybody. Likewise, it'll be different for you as well. If I will take 2-3 weeks to complete one level, you might take only 1 week to do that.
It just depends on your passion and ability to grasp things to learn anything and nothing else.

I'm scared to go on kakao talk and hello talk because of how awkward it would be for me to strike up conversation, I did do hello talk for japanese but I wasn't that into japanese before as i am now with korean. seeing that Min gyu worked hard and gave tips to help out I'll try them out and do it well to see improvements :3

I have no idea when I started learning Korean but I remember when I started learning Japanese. Officially on my 34th birthday. Maybe it's a good sign if you set a date to start learning a language and go from there. I learned Japanese pretty well although it took forever I stuck with it for over 6 years.

But guys really don't give up even if it takes much more time to you. I started studying in 2011 and I ended losing track of it because my life was a mess and because I thought I wouldn't be able to travel to korea any time close to those times (bad, bad type of thought) I learned spanish first, became advanced in it, got to french first too, but my heart never forgot korean.
I started again last December and I AM ENJOYING SO DAMN MUCH!
Way more than french and for this reason I'm learning faster.
The process is the award in itself

Looking forward to really digging in to learning Korean!!

I've been studying Korean for the past four years, and I have been super lazy to study. It's true that I had no Korean supporting phone for the first two years and I didn't have any Korean books till 5 months ago, but I admit that I've procrastinated so much. Now I'm at a stage where I understand more Korean than I can speak or write. I'm really impressed by Min Gyu's hard work! Wish me strong will on my studies!

I think recording to yourself regularly to improve your speaking/pronunciation (weekly seems like a lot!) shows lots of dedication. I sometimes tell myself I will do this exact thing but then I'll do it once and in fact it turns out to be once a year.

I hope I will also get to this level one day. I started to learn about 3 months ago and I am a bit frustrated at how slow my progress is. I started learning French one month later and it's going way faster. But I have to say that the Talk To Me In Korean website helps me a lot. I really appreciate there is also a written text under a recording of the lesson so If I don't catch it from the recording I can read it below. :)
This is kind of a motivation to study harder and combine various methods of learning.
