  • This is a great duet my Dad sang with Sarah Vaughan many years ago. What a treat it was to sing it with the great Elmer Hopper (Mills Brothers). Love it, Love the song, and I love Elmer! Passing Strangers... Gina Eckstine

It was very strange. This morning I woke up with this song in my head and I just had to listen to it. I remember sneaking records from my dad's collection ( he never let me touch his records) what a beautiful song. Gina...you sound like your dad. Beautiful job both of you

At 76 I well remember when the original record came out and became an instant hit on radio and sales. Sarah and Billy were so in tune with each other every duet they did was magic. This tribute is wonderful.

Thank You very much such kind words. Gina is like my sister and I feel exactly the same as you. I absolutely love Billy and Sarah doing anything together. I hope to cover more of those great performances with Gina Eckstine.

When it comes to Gina Eckstine, the leaf did not fall far from the tree. She is a superb singer, with all the complicated talents and intelligence that involves.

Lovely. Your tones are rich ,close to the original but uniquely your own as well...brilliantly done and so full of emotion...shocking..frankly I didn't think anyone alive could duplicate their sound but you proved me wrong! The sincerity impressed me the most!

Lovely to see this ... when I was a kid I picked out a LP from my Dad's record collection and began playing it. It was your marvellous father at Basin Street East with the band arranged and conducted by Quincy Jones. I now have that record on CD and thirty-five years on I still play it regularly. The thing about Billy Eckstine was that he was such an intelligent and intuitive singer of a lyric. As with Sinatra he had a screenplay running in his mind while he sang.

Gena, great song. More than twenty years ago, Bill Ekstine came to Japan. I saw him at TV show. Elmer's friend Kuni Wakayama. (April 19, 2011)

She clearly has done justice to those Eckstine genes she's carrying. Although he's not an Eckstine, Elmer nonetheless complements Gina wonderfully in this romantic duet.

PS. Oh, and I forgot to say ... I saw him live in London at the famous Ronnie Scott's club in about 84/85. I sing myself and can be a terrible parrot, so occasionally I have to shake your pappy out of my feathers. No one needs poor man's Billy Eckstines when they're so much of him still out there!
    Cheers to Mr.B!

The Trombone solo is the great Ira Nepus, how honored we are to know our friend Ira Nepus. Sorry my camera man didn't zero in on you.

Gina Eckstine & Elmer Hopper tried their best & it was not a bad performance. However, this beautiful ballad exclusively belongs to one of the greatest duet parings in musical history, Eckstine & Vaughan. All leading vocal challengers are wasting their time.
