Jimmy Snuka did my card show in the East Bay Area in the '70s and was signed to do only a 2 hour appearance. It went so well and Jimmy had so much fun that he stayed the whole 8 hours and signed 100s of free autographs, took all kinds of pictures, and taught all the kids how to get in and out holds. I can. Some of the guys are jealous of Jesse's success and talk about him being a conspiracy theorist. Guess what, all of the so-called conspiracies that Jesse would talk about in the 1970s and 80s turned out to be true. He was one of the first to openly tell the guys that police were using military technology to tap into people, put thoughts in their head, manipulate their nervous system, turn people against each other. Early days of psychological warfare. He told them that they had psychiatrists working with the police and military that would experiment on the poor in and out of the United States. Said he was getting information about these programs in the early days of them being implemented when he was with the Navy Seals. He would advise wrestlers to stay away from electronics and that the implementation of a home grid would make this all worse. He was 100% spot on. People like Jesse are rare. They are the real ones, the brave ones. Not afraid of calling out liars and sociopaths. He's a good man.
After watching the "Jesse Ventura" TV persona for years, it's refreshing to see a rare vision of the real Jesse Ventura. One of the great ones. Loved him as the wrestler and our governor.
Undoubtedly one of the best talents ever in the squared circle; as governor, not at ALL a fan - especially his comments about religion being for the weak-minded.

My grandmother was a teacher at a special needs school in Anoka, MN. When I was about 10 years old there was a family emergency and I was dropped off with my grandmother at her school. I had so many signed cards (bdays, xmas, etc) quite the collection, then I joined the Air Force and when I got back from being overseas I learned my mom sold my entire collection, including my signed copy of Predator which Jesse got several cast members to sign it for me.
Jesse really does have a great voice for naration. His color commentary was a hoot! He and Mean Gene really did have a chemistry between them, they played off of each other perfectly and both were hilarious.
I had a smile on My face the whole time I was watching this. I grew up watching Jesse "The Body" Ventura wrestle. Jesse is an all around great guy and an amazing storyteller. He is definately one of the greats! They dont make em like that anymore.

Saw a few in crowds of people. lol but it was just my family and Adrian going up a few floors. It was awesome.
I moved into the greater Portland TV market in 1983 and remember flipping through late night TV and seeing Portland wrestling. Lots of the greats wrestled there.
My twin brother and I grew up listening to the hilarious banter between Jesse Ventura and either Vince McMahon or Gorilla Monsoon on all of the wrestling broadcasts. The man had excellent mic skills. Take me back to a golden era of TV 📺. PBS and Saturday morning cartoons. Communication was better and we didn't have cell phones. Any who... Wrestling was depending on market either NWA, WWWF or the AWA.
My one cousin was working out in a local gym. He saw Jesse and Tony Atlas spotting for each other. They were supposed to wrestle each other in the main event that night. My cousin said why would you be spotting each other than have to fight tonight? Jesse said that Tony was the only person he knew there that was pushing the same weight as he was. He's the only one I can trust. He trust me just as much.
To this day 1 of my most vivid memories of wrestling was Snuka leaping from the top of the cage. Amazing ....paving the way for what we have seen since.

Hands down my favorite wrestling announcer of all time. 1998 Summer Slam match between Rude and the Warrior was just awesome. Jesse made that match so exciting to listen to. Tony was with him.
In the 90's I could stop by Village Inn, for coffee and pie, and see Superfly there eating sometimes, wearing his leopard prints, from head to toe. He was always very nice and friendly.
The East-West Connection. After Adonis left Jesse tagged with Mr. Saito as the Far-East-West Connection. Great fueds with the High Criers (High Flyers).

Jesse had a very short in ring career, I think maybe about ten years at the most, probably why he is still alive versus all the guys he came up with, who are mostly dead.
@@JENDALL714 he had blood clots in his lungs. He was in the hospital for a long time. He said he was just starting a program with Hogan when he found out. Said it cost him a lot of money

That time ITV was the only 24hr channel in the UK and they used to show *"Superstars of Wrestling"* & *"Wrestling Challenge,"* all brand new at the time. It was through those shows I knew about "Mean" Gene Ockerlund.
Jimmy sounds like a giving guy unlike Hogan, HBK & other top guys. Outside of what he did in his private life, Snuka seems like a great guy and would be proud to know that Tamina is a champion RIGHT NOW.

i remember many of them, probably not as many as you do. and lots of ones i can't remember, used to see them at the masonic hall with my dad and on television "big time wrestling".
We used to go to watch wrestling at the Seattle center close to the Needle, and I was still in grade school then. With twenty dollars we could pay to go in have ring side seats, and buy souvenirs. My aunt and uncle would have drinks with some of the wrestlers, some of them were real characters. Even seen some real ally fights, after the matches, hence , the creation of ally matches. Yeah, it’s hard to watch now days , wrestling is lost from its former self. I call it soap opera’s with tights. I’ll watch AEW , and smaller venues to have a little more authentic feel to the sport.

Very few wrestlers have that it factor when it pertains to interviews, Jesse by far is one of the best to listen to and that I've ever listen to. From beginning to interesting end, he has you hooked on every word!
jesse is awesome..i remember summer slam 88 or 89 in nj he and mcmahon went live on ppv, a few rows behind me was a very loud guy started yelling "jesse jesse jesse" i started with him so for that moment there was only two of us then within one second later the entire arena was chanting it. he was so over as a commentator.
I LOVE listening to Jesse, the man is smart and can talk. The body was no wrestler by any stretch, BUT on the mic he was pure GOLD! Vince was smart for bringing Jesse in as a commentator once Jesse's wrestling career died down.
From what I understand, his wrestling stopped because of a dangerous medical condition. He was then shifted into the talking roles because he was too valuable at it to let go.
The wrestling Jesse is talking about was from Portland and called big time wrestling it was also taped delayed and shown in Washington. Jesse was the Kansas city butcher boy when wrestled in Portland and Seattle and was later tagged teamed with a wrestler called Apache bull Ramos who wrestled jimi snuka playboy bubby rose Dutch savage Ricky steamboat jay young blood .
@@stevenbetassa7329 Don Owen the promoter in Portland Pd the talent well but was so cheap he used the same tape to tape all shows for ever, so there are no taped Portland wresting shows but what people taped at home on the VHS, Buddy Rose taped a butch and after he died someone got the tapes and are transferring over to current tapes.
The oldschool guys yes... these clowns that are wrestling these days? Not so much. They should thow away all the script bullshit and let them figure it out for themselfs again

We had a neighborhood battle royal. We each represented some of our favorite wrestlers (not knowing it was a work back then) and basically got home with busted lips, black eyes, and bruises. 😂 I'd say the figure four (once reversed) is legitimately painful!
Haha. My comment is as I have now read of so many others. What a great story teller, incredibly interesting and captivating man. I too could listen to him for hours 🙂🙂
I remember that match Ventura vs Snuka. They hyped Jesse for weeks saying he was kicked out of New York for life and built him up as the biggest heel on the face of the planet. Of course we ate it up. For the first two minutes Jesse wouldn't wrestle he just broke off and did body builder poses every time Jimmy would try to lock up. We hated him!!! He came in and stole the belt from our hero and every Saturday night my dad would yell at us for swearing at Ventura on TV 🤣 Great memories
Age7-10 in the 70's I'd watch team Bull Ramos and Jesse the Body VS team Dutch Savage and Jimmy the Fly Snuka at the Douglas county fair grounds in Roseburg Or. My grandfather would take us to every match. My brother, cousins, and I sat in the bleachers. He and grandma had front row tickets every time. Grandma would beat the stuffing out of Ramos and Ventura with her purse every chance she had. Thank you Jesse for being there even tho you chased my brother and I away when we asked for an autograph. That non autograph was the only one I remember. We had dozens from Savage and Snuka. But I dont remember them the same way. These men were super heroes to us kids🇺🇸
Wow, I remember Bull Ramos! I remember watching Grizzly Smith (Jake the Snake's dad), Klondike Bill, The Spoiler, Billy Red Lyon, Cowboy Bill Watts, Sputnik Monroe just to name a few!
Ventura should still be working for one of the major wrestling development agencies. His experience and knowledge of the wrestling business is impressive. A lot of young guys could really benefit off his wrestling I.Q.
When my life was forever changed by entering the wonderful, enchanted world of pro wrestling, it was The Body and McMahon doing the commentating. Wow they were good, forming the template of one heel siding and one by the book commentator. I don't think anyone perfectly done it and perfected it like Heenan and Monsoon. Haha, Ventura talking, how he talks, you can maybe say it's an accent...."Snoooka.". Hahah
Jessie should watch an interview Scott Hall did. He had two dark matches and Vince asked him "what do you think?" and Scott told him "It's fake if I lose, it's fake if I win."
Professional wrestling of the '70s and '80s era is choreographed theatrical performance/ Of course you don't want real fighting b/c then it's dreadfully dull, brutal senseless violence of combatants sacrificing their health to survive as long as possible as competitors/

I couldn't believe my eyes the first time i saw Snuka do his super splash live at the cow palace, he body slammed his opponent in one corner then climbed up the ropes in the far opposite corner, at this point I'm thinking what the hell, he jumps across the entire ring to land on the other guy it was unreal.
Jesse always seem like a straight shooter and shrewd operator
Man you can tell he loved the business.
Jesse Ventura is a great storyteller.
A great voice & a great commentator.
Love these classic stories.
Jesse the Body from the golden age of wrestling
Jesse can speak very well. Jesse Keep talking , keep telling us stories
Jesse's fun to listen to even with that skullet he's rocking
😂😂😂
Skullet annoys the shyt out of me. He looked much better with the baldie and the mustache.
hey, benjamin franklin had one
Very few wrestlers have that it factor when it pertains to interviews, Jesse by far is one of the best to listen to and that I've ever listen to. From beginning to interesting end, he has you hooked on every word!
Only a real man can rock that shit!
jesse is awesome..i remember summer slam 88 or 89 in nj he and mcmahon went live on ppv, a few rows behind me was a very loud guy started yelling "jesse jesse jesse" i started with him so for that moment there was only two of us then within one second later the entire arena was chanting it. he was so over as a commentator.
Thanks for posting. I love Jesse Ventura stuff.
I LOVE listening to Jesse, the man is smart and can talk. The body was no wrestler by any stretch, BUT on the mic he was pure GOLD! Vince was smart for bringing Jesse in as a commentator once Jesse's wrestling career died down.
Jesse wasn't a great wrestler but he knew how to work a crowd and get plenty heat. Jesse was a master of ring psychology.
I watched Portland Wrestling during the 1970's and early 80' I lived in Wash state. Remember Jessie, Jimmy, Dutch, Playboy Piper, some big names later
@@stevenbetassa7329 Rick steamboat-yhe royal kangaroos-Tito Santana- gene kiniski
@@stevenbetassa7329 Don Owen the promoter in Portland Pd the talent well but was so cheap he used the same tape to tape all shows for ever, so there are no taped Portland wresting shows but what people taped at home on the VHS, Buddy Rose taped a butch and after he died someone got the tapes and are transferring over to current tapes.
a lot of pro wrestlers have great minds and verbal skills. It's interesting as hell to listen to them home fryin' it like this...
The oldschool guys yes... these clowns that are wrestling these days? Not so much. They should thow away all the script bullshit and let them figure it out for themselfs again
I remember Portland Wrestling in the 70's! Snuka, Bull Ramos, Dutch Savage, Ventura.
Love to hear Jessie talk about the old days in wrestling, I'd never vote for him but that's s different subject...
Ventura was a colorful character, who knew he was limited in the ring. His pairing with Adonis worked, because it fused a personality with an excellent worker.
I was there. In the NW. He had one hold. The one they give to all the wrestlers who can't work. The full nelson
And he could NOT WORK 😂😂
@@donaldwood7449 But he could do everything else. He really looked good in the beginning and he stole from the best. What you would expect from a politician
@@nomikes4392 That’s the truth!!
Always loved Snuka, broke my heart to see The Crippler piledriving him outside the ring.
always enjoy hearing Jesse speak
the whole show changed when jesse left in '90
I think "Mean Gene, The Hot Air Machine" might have been a play on "Gene Gene The Dancing Machine" from the Gong Show...
I love Jesse's voice... so cool.
Btw, if you grew up with wrestlIng and a little brother, if you don’t have memories of pile driving him into your mom’s table and getting punished, you haven’t lived. 😂😂😂
Off the Ropes! Crash! "Boys!"
my little brother tombstoned me through a Ouija board once
My finishing moves in my cousin were DDT, Iron Claw, and cobra clutch
We had a neighborhood battle royal. We each represented some of our favorite wrestlers (not knowing it was a work back then) and basically got home with busted lips, black eyes, and bruises. 😂 I'd say the figure four (once reversed) is legitimately painful!
that's the best type of pro wrestling stories, Titles going back and forth.
When Wrestling was Wrestling & there were many independent markets
Jesse. much like many of the 70s/80s Characters was one of the BEST
Haha. My comment is as I have now read of so many others. What a great story teller, incredibly interesting and captivating man. I too could listen to him for hours 🙂🙂
Always found it facinating when they call it the 'business'.
I remember when those 2 were wrestling in Portland, Oregon. It was awesome
1:29 He didn't care about the Title Belts, he cared about the Wallet. And that's what it's all about." 🤣
Jesse and Mean Gene could have hosted their own sports news and information network with the talents they both had.
Age7-10 in the 70's I'd watch team Bull Ramos and Jesse the Body VS
team Dutch Savage and Jimmy the Fly Snuka at the Douglas county fair grounds in Roseburg Or.
I always liked how he pronounces Snuka. "Snooka."
Minnesota accent
I think that's the proper way it's pronounced in Fijiian, I've heard Jimmy refer to himself that way in interviews.
Or how he always called Tito Santana Chico Santana. He loved to bust balls.
Along with Booker and Heenan, Ventura were my favorite announcers.
Ventura was hilarious as a heel WWE commentator back in the day. Bobby Heenan was a very close second.
Heenan was leaps and bounds better than Ventura on the mic
Ventura should still be working for one of the major wrestling development agencies. His experience and knowledge of the wrestling business is impressive. A lot of young guys could really benefit off his wrestling I.Q.
he lives in southern baja mexico. hes a life legend!
Jesse and Mean Gene the best pairing ever.
Hahah
Anybody here who watched these guys on Big Time Wrestling?💪
I remember him in Milwaukee...AWA....Star was written all over the muscle guy.
Had a bad mushroom trip while watch a jesse ventura interview once, he is so great but his voice litterally terrifies me now.
