Tuxedo RJ-45 Safety Catch Issue

  • I purchased these two Tuxedo RJ-45 rolling jacks from two separate vendors and both have issues with the safety catch, one being dangerous to use because the weight capacity is obviously reduced greatly, seeing only one of two arms are engaging the catch tooth.

    Hey, are the roller wheels on this Tuxedo bridge jack smooth or grooved like a “/-\” to ride on a bent flange?

      They're just smaller sealed roller bearing flat-bottom wheels on a welded peg and C-clip retainer, which keeps coming off on it's own. They ride in a lipped J-channel that's welded along the inside of the runways. If you're looking for a jack for residential car storage or occasional maintenance, this may work for you. If you're looking for a jack for professional use, this isn't it. Keep looking elsewhere.

      Yeah, I had my brother weld a small piece of stock to the shorter arm then ground both arms with an angle grinder until they both engaged the cogs at the same time. For the lack of height I stopped using the extension arms and pucks and instead used the top plate of the jack body and some 2x8 boards and lifted the car at the crossmember, where the lower control arms connect. They did come with height adapters that go between the arm and pucks but my car is too low to use even the shortest of the three sizes. As far as the quality of the jack, I'm still not happy with them. The rollers are just encased bearings that are mounted to the jack body with pins that have a groove cut at both ends with c-clip retainers. The c-clips keep falling off and then the bearings bind up. Chinese engineering at its finest!

      I only use these a couple times a year, mostly to store the Vette during the winter months and the general maintenance of personal vehicles. So, for the money I saved over the jacks that cost 2-3x the price of these, I'll make do with the poor quality. But if you're considering these for professional use, spend the extra and buy a quality brand.

      @@naamangeist7843 I was going to suggest welding a piece of flat stock but you already have done that, do you lift your Vette to keep the tires from flat spotting? Thanks for your time.

      @@Al-tl2ov yes, that's exactly the reason. They are still the original tires as the car only has 15k miles on the odometer. I will be buying a new set soon simply because of the age of the rubber but there is no cracking (weather checking) as of yet.

      @@naamangeist7843 To keep my COPO slicks from flat spotting I bought Race Ramps 10" Wide Flatstopper (Pack of 4), Race Ramp says they are for 8" tires but work on 9 to 10" tires. Thanks for all your replies.
