  • Just behind London's Brick Lane is Spitalfields, a now well-preserved area of Georgian London. This programme explores what happened before the current gentrification as success waves of immigrants came into the area in the 18th and 19th centuries -- from Huguenot silk weavers to Jewish tailors. With Dan Cruickshank, Judith Millar and Juliet Morris (circa 2002). This private house is in Princlet Street.

What! My last name is Pillow & has been spelled in a variety of ways. Pillot, Pillote, Pillar. My research recently lead me to Spitalfields where my family were weavers whom later migrated to America. This is fascinating. This might be a connection. I also located baptism records at the Church in Spitalfields. My family originated in France then Belgium prior to England. Yes, Sure would like to see that map!

It really doesn't matter you know... all of that work preserving the great English History just so it will be given over to someone who will dismantle that and sit on the floor...
