- This feels more like my thoughts, or just me gushing about the things I like in this movie, but hey, I suppose that a review is in some cases. Here's my review of THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS!
#SilenceOfTheLambs #Hannibal
"Hannibal Lecter shows monsters can be human. Buffalo Bill shows humans can be monsters." Couldn't have described them any better.
I’m not sure if he came up with that himself or he’s quoting another guy, but if he did that is SOOOOOOOO GOOD!
@@derekmatzek9551 That belongs on the back of the DVD cover.
I have never heard this said about those characters, but its spot on.. excellent
Facts!
My brain melted when I heard that.
“Hannibal Lector showed us that monsters can be human, and Buffalo Bill showed us that humans can be monsters.”
Well said Mr. Jahns. Well said.
It's Lecter, actually
I will never forget the final scene of this movie “I’m having a friend for dinner” was just so chilling, amazing film
It had a different ending originally. They changed it before release.
Im gonna eat his liver with a nice chianti and som fava beans.
Doctor Lecter?... Doctor Lecter?... Doctor Lecter?... *Dr. Lecter has left the chat*
@@mrgregw which was the original ending?
what makes that scene amazing is the music
The juxtaposition of the fbi ringing the bell about to get Bill, to Clarice being the one at his door is one of the craziest moments in cinema. And yea nothing beats that night vision stalk scene. Such a good movie.
Anthony Hopkins or Mads Mikkelsen?
To quote Jeremy himself.
"He's great, he's also great, they are both great"
@犬のふしだらな女 I'd guess Mads has an advantage of being on the screen for 3 ten-episode seasons which is like what, 20 hours minimum? While Hopkins has 30 minutes at best. It's like super-strong shot vs sipping wine for two weeks.
Ah, you are forgetting Brian Cox in manhunter. It's the first version of red Dragon the 1st Hannibal book. It's very 1980s but worth a watch. Brian cox s version of Hannibal lecter is a lot different to Anthony Hopkins. Not better, but for me more menacing.
If you love Mads you need to play Death Stranding.
it's like choosing who's the best Joker. As long as they give an amazing performance with their own takes and twist then it's really hard to compare them.
I actually can't choose
For anyone wondering: the other film he’s talking about is One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest.
Thank you!! 😅
Whats the third?

Lecter escaping custody is one of the most unnerving scenes in movie history.
True
Insane to think he only had 16 minutes of screen time, and deserved any awards he got.
I remember the first time I saw him reveal himself in the back of the ambulance, was absolutely speechless
@christ1313 Same my dude
@Fred T he only blinks like twice. Hopkins gave so much depth to the character with body language, despite only having 15 minutes of screen time.
That night vision scene at the end is legit terrifying.
Hell yeah. Watched it today.... those goggles were actually terrifying holy shit

Jeremy: He just makes your skin crawl
Buffalo Bill: I have a lotion for that
"Hannibal shows that monsters can be human, Buffalo shows that humans can be monsters"
-Jeremy Jahns
loved that!
Yeah, that made me pause, rewind and replay just to hear it again. It's perfectly simple and perfectly effective. Brilliant quote.
“Hannibal Lecter shows that monsters can be human; Buffalo Bill shows that humans can be monsters.”
*Boom* 🙌🏼
“I do wish we could chat longer, but... I'm having an old friend for dinner. Bye.” That line is so creepy and clever at the same time. Anthony Hopkins is one of my favorite actors cause of this movie.
Two moments I love happen at the same moment......
1) Hannibal is ABOUT to tell Clarice what she needs to know, but then the Doctor enter the room and Hannibal knows it before anyone else does.... and he WON'T tell the information in front of him... and so the expressions that cross his face in those milliseconds, because he is upset he can't make good on his promise to Clarice and his hatred for the doctor... and his hate that he is breaking his promise BECAUSE the doctor showed up..... and then he goes cold on Clarice. AMAZING acting.
2) Same scene... when he gives Clarice the folder and touches her with his finger.... wow.
How were camera placement and angles used to create suspense
The Series made dishes of people look delightfully delicious. that's messed up. "This is my design."
I know right? Every scene with Hannibal cooking got me hungry.
I felt bad for getting the munchies
I’m giving that show a look in Netflix....really good so far, can’t believe NBC actually aired it
@@steve-o8171 NBC airs good shows then cancels it
Well said ✊🏾
I actually get hungry every time there’s food in the show. They jus look so good
When people are still quoting lines from a movie that came out over 2 decades ago, you know it's a good movie.
damn close to 3 decades
@Josh Cuthbert took the words right out of my mouth.
The Silence of the Lambs is one of the most perfectly paced, perfectly acted movies ever made. I don't even think Hopkins or Foster could reprise those performances. I have never seen a more convincing or compellingly acted scene than Clarice Starling relaying of her ordeal with the lamb to Hannibal Lecter. Perfection!
Perfectly paced?
I don't agree at all! This movie seems longer than it is!
@@Jeckxdeel I don't necessarily mean the length of the film when I say pacing. I am referring to how each scene flows perfectly into the next scene.
For example, when the geeks discover the Death's Head Moth in its cocoon, and they remark how someone loved and nurtured it, then the movie cuts to a moth flying around Buffalo Bill's terrifying lair. That is story telling perfection right there.
@@ninjadog9346 I understand and I remember these 2 scenes!
But many other thrillers/crime movies, even older, are way far better in my opinion!
This movie lasts 113 minutes and seems to last at least 150/160 minutes in my opinion!
And the many close-ups are painful and boring in the long run!
Quick Question: What were Claire's greatest strengths and weaknesses? How did Clarice overcome sexual identity challenges in a largely male world to become the story's leading lady?
@@mrteaparty6090 Her greatest strength was a .357 magnum. Her greatest weakness was powerful men leaving her hanging on the telephone. Pity.
I remember watching "The Silence of the Lambs" for the first time, and halfway through it thinking "I wish I could watch it again" It is that good!
One of the greatest movies ever made. Anthony Hopkins is forever immortalized from this performance.
Jeremy’s quote on the movie box: “I had to pee, and I still didn’t leave the movie”

"I love my brother."
That was a 100% genuinely loveable statement.
Jeremy is literally morphing into Wolverine, the version from the early 00's ''Wolverine and the X-Men'' animated series,to be precise.
For the last time....he’s JOHN WICK!!!
Silence of the lambs is one of those movies that absolutely everyone has to see whether they like horror or not and they will love it or be shunned
Guess I'm shunned. Only liked the two performances between Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins, but the main focus wasn't on them, just on this boring Buffalo Bill character. I didn't find it intense or scary, but all the other ones I did find one or the other. He does truly make a great first impression with so little screen time, but the rest of the film didn't hold up for me. I'm good without watching people stuck in holes and dancing naked people, but I don't find it tense or scary or particularly interesting. These movies are only as strong as the villains that accompanying Hannibal Lecter, that's why Red Dragon and the Hannibal tv show are my favorite, but the Hannibal movie was pretty good too, though it had confusing morality that sided with serial killers far too often. Ralph Fiennes is actually the standout of this franchise in my opinion, which I know is an unpopular opinion, but it's emotionally effective and psychologically fascinating to see a mentally handicapped serial killer.
DJGamingSmash the Hannibal movie was doghshit, brother. I love Red Dragon & will defend it ceaselessly, but they made Anthony Hopkins’s portrayal of the character borderline comical in Hannibal. The filmmaking is flashy in all the wrong ways, every bit of violence is telegraphed from a mile away, & it’s like they completely forgot that shadow exist, & exist to the filmmakers’s benefit. Even as a kid, I thought it was hilarious (especially the end...seeing Ray Liotta happily eating his own brain cracks me the fuck up)
@@christopherlowery3797 hannibal from 2001 was pretty decent
my ex girlfriend said silence of the lambs was boring and stupid. its one of the reasons i broke up with her. women dont really appreciate this movie

First time I saw this movie was in High School. My psychology teacher brought it for me one day because the rest of the class was supposed to do a book review I had already done. Also, what made The Silence of the Lambs such a gripping film was the score by Howard Shore. His themes accentuated so many of the scenes that I don't believe they would've been so horrifying without Shore's musical accompaniments.
Undoubtedly a classic film, truly one of Anthony Hopkins' best works
@Fred T "The elephant man", David Lynch.
You're literally everywhere
"I'm having an old friend for dinner"
The casting for this movie was simply perfect. I expected (and was delivered) top-notch performances from Foster and Hopkins but had no idea who Ted Levine was (but damn, did he bring it.)
I used to live near a lamb farm; their cries are truly unsettling af.
The main baddie also played the Police Chief in that series Monk.
and the dad that got burnt to death in hills have eyes
Capt Stottlemeyer!
Wait, why are they unsettling?
The reveal in the ambulence is one of the best twists of all time.
People say “good and effective Horror” films are actually Psychological Thrillers. And this films makes me think of that.
It goes beyond psychological thriller. You forgot some parts or you're desensitized.
killercaos123 Proud tradition - The Shining, Jacob’s Ladder, SOTL ... all total mindfvcks with terrific acting as the centerpoint. 👍
I still get chills every time Hannibal is in the ambulance, sits up, and rips off the guy's face. The music swells. It's incredible.
i don't like horror movies so i avoid this for years. finally saw it and that ending where you're watching Clarice/Jodi Foster through the night vision goggles is worth all the Oscars in that one scene. this has some horror elements but it's much more a psychological thriller which i totally dig.
yeah it’s totally a thriller , movie still stands up it’s a classic.
Get into horror there are plenty of amazing horror movies worth it for the movie not just the horror.
Watch Sinister then you can watch nearly anything.
Watch Doctor Sleep! It definitely has horror roots but is more like a very frightening thriller
Jonah Wood that movie is so underrated!
Tyler Ray the best horror movie i’ve seen in a long time was Hereditary. Great Horror movies are so underrated, not the lame jump scare horror movies either i’m talking about tense, atmospheric drama/thriller ones.
I just watched this movie on Netflix. And after all these years this movie still holds up as one of the best. I grew up watching Jodie Foster's career as a kid I wanted her to be my wife. I had a huge crush on her. And she looked beautiful in the Spike Lee movie "Inside Man." Another good movie as well.
I loved it when Seth Green confessed his inspiration for Chris Griffin was Buffalo Bill. It makes sense once you hear it and funny when he reenacts THAT scene on the show. LOL
@Gmail com well that explains why I despise Robot Chicken for being repulsive and in very poor taste...seriously, Iwatched like one or two episodes and then was like "That's it! I'm Done!"
Gmail com how so? I’ve never heard anything bad about him. Robot Chicken is twisted I get that
A thing I never noticed in the film until a recent watch is how much offhanded mysogyny there is towards Clarice in her job, and how she just had to eat it to make it. But Hannibal doesn't treat her that way, he actually treats her with respect.
And in a weird way it subtlety endears your to Hannibal bc he may be a monster but he isn't biggotted. It's all part of the things that make it seem like there are layers to him and he isn't fully a monster (even though he kind of is lol).
What is something you like about the film?
You like him because even though he eats people he's politically correct
And Crawford, more so in the book, where he specifically gives Starling the case because he believes in her potential.

Silence of the Lambs easily falls into my “Perfect Movies” list
The Great Dr. Hannibal is one of my most favorite and delectable gentlemonsters.
The 90s were the days where horror films were actually horror films and now a days they've gotten lazier with nothing but dumb jump scares. Like you said it never drags though its 2 hours long cause its so good that you can't take your eyes off the screen.
Don't know about that chief. The A24 movies are pretty high concept.
What? The 90s produced some of the worst horror movies ever.
I’d love to see his opinions on Hannibal Rising, Red Dragon and Hannibal.
Here is the weird thing--THIS MOVIE WAS RELEASED ON VALENTINES DAY!! Weirdest date-night movie that year...The other thing is, while this is ACTUALLY a sequel (to 1986s Manhunter/Red Dragon), very few people knew about the original...which is very similar and ALMOST as good
Yah, it's good but Clarice and Anthony Hopkims I think were the missing ingredients to making it amazing. It's good but it was more par for the course
Read the book Thomas Harris "Hannibal," then the Valentines day release will make more sense.

1986s Manhunter/Red Dragon is directed by Michael Mann!
Okay but here's the question: Manhunter or Red Dragon? Which is better? I'm voting Red Dragon. The one good movie Brett Ratner ever made
An instant classic. Hannibal Lecter is almost like the most demented Bond villain ever.
I love that Bill is Cpt Stottlemeyer from Monk
It gets a lot of praise for the acting and Anthony Hopkins in particular, but this is maybe one of the best edited and directed movies ever. Nothing is wasted. The tension never breaks. In some ways, the perfectly crafted movie.
No way, I just watched this 29 year old movie a couple hours ago and Jeremy uploads this review less than an hour after I was done watching it.
Coincidence?? Maybe
Does it weirdly disturb me? Hell yes
The thing I kind of love about Anthony Hopkins' performance is that he stares at each character like he is staring right through them and right into their soul. Its laser focused and its the kind of thing that makes you feel 1" tall when you are talking to him. At the same time, he's got this smile on his face that kind of says, "I know more about everything than you do, and that's hilarious..." He lets you know that compared to intelligence, everything you think and say is a joke.
