For chiggers, get some clear fingernail polish and paint over the area you have them. The polish prevents the chiggers from getting O2 thru the skin and it kills them. My dad set trailers and would get them all over his back crawlin under the trailers. It worked. When my husband came home from military training at Fort Knox, he was covered, and I told him to let me put polish on him. He didn’t believe me but it worked. From then on he carried it in his shave kit on training, and shared the secret with other guys in his units. They were amazed and didn’t kid him anymore about having fingernail polish bc they carried it too!

I listened to the contented chickens, the branch rambling in the background, and the birds making spring chatter. I listened to the horsefly buzzing, saw the bee attack Matt, and heard the new fresh leaves moving. I got tired when you moved all the soil up the side of the hill, sleepy when you sat to have popsicles, and sad when you ended the vlog. It was such a great time with you and Matt and thanks for taking us along.

Tipper- The chiggers love me as well. I found out a few years ago that VIck's Vapo-rub applied to the bites on the skin will quell the itching & actually remedy the problem by bedtime. If you have a bunch around the ankles, apply the Vick's liberally/thickly & put on a pair of socks... The Vick's remedy applies to skeeter bites, as well!! Prayers & love to the Presley's.....

This sounds crazy, but just the naturalness of conversation with the normal pauses and ponderings…too many conversation videos and tv shows or clips are super edited to have rapid conversation to the point where it’s overwhelming to my brain LOL It’s so nice to hear normal flowing conversation- especially with interesting topics!

We used to raise honey bees years ago & harvest that wonderful honey. If you ever get stung & you can immediately put ammonia on the sting it will take out the pain. Even if you don't have pure ammonia, you can put something that has ammonia in it like Windex & it will help the pain. Maybe it would have worked for the Japanese Hornet sting. We've seen the big woodpeckers in our area about every 3 or 4 years. They don't come often & don't stay long. The 3 red potatoes that I planted in the 5 gal. bucket has only produced 2 little plants. Hope they make a few potatoes for us this year.
Katie & Corie are wonderful daughters because you & Matt raised them to love the Lord & honor their parents.
Thanks for the chit-chat time! Hugs!

He was stung in his 50’s and his throat began to swell and would have died had his wife not given him a Benadryl. My dad ate Brazil nuts all his life until in his 40’s his lips started swelling. I always keep some in my purse not only for me, but incase someone I work with she have a sudden food allergy 😊. Y’all got so much done today! Yes, your girls would make anybody proud ❤! I use a mixture of essential oils to repel ticks and mosquitos. I imagine it would probably work for chiggers too. I put it on my dogs when I take them outside for a walk, and they haven't been bothered by ticks or fleas. Here is the mixture I use if you're interested: use a 4 ounce essential oil bottle with a spray pump and use distilled water. To that I use 8 drops each of orange, lemongrass, cedarwood, and citronella essential oils. Love your channel!

That breakfast looked so good, I could eat breakfast anytime. We had breakfast for supper the other night. Diatomaceous Earth is good stuff. We use it around the house and yard. Food grade Diatomaceous Earth can be used on and around animals, it keeps ticks off and doesn't hurt them if they lick themselves after putting it on them. Zoos use it on their animals. Keep meat tenderizer around, if Matt gets stung make a paste and put it on the stings. Yes, Benedryl helps with itching/swelling. Make a mixture of witch hazel plus essential oils- peppermint or lavender or citronella, etc., mix with 4-6 tablespoons of water. apply to skin- especially legs to repel chiggers. Mosquitoes are drawn to blood type O more than others. Enjoy watching y'all working, hard workers all. Good to visit with you guys. Stay safe and GOD bless

Here in San Diego yellow jackets are plentiful. My hubby spends hours every summer trying to find their nests at sundown. We have 12 acres in the country so we encounter alot of rattle snake. Hubby will come running into the house with a big smile yelling "RATTLER!" ...It gives him an excuse to shoot the shotgun. When he comes back in I usually say, "Did it really take 10 or 11 shots to kill it?" And he'd smile and say, "Best to not take chances". Haha

I can relate to your experiences with wasps and bees. I have had great success with making a poultice out of the plantain plant. Chew up a couple of leaves and slap it on your bite. By the next day it will be like it never happened. You can also use Adolph’s Meat Tenderizer and water. Make a thick paste and put it on your bite. The enzymes in it that tenderize your meat, break down the histamine that the bee injects into the skin when it stings you. I guess that’s the price we pay for the beauty of gardening. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us. Best regards from Southern New Hampshire.

Watch you on my big screen but have to go to the computer to register a like and a view. So good in these collapsing times to sit and watch a wholesome family live life and follow the ways of our Lord. Thank you.

I used to live where the people who owned the place rented out the land to a group of farmers for commercial farming and, the owner told us every other year they plant corn and, every other year they would plant soy beans! But, there was plenty of area where we was able to have a nice big garden and plenty of flowers! Thanks for sharing your gardening journey with us and, God bless you Tipper and, Matt and, your girls!

LOVE Corie's Michigan T-shirt. I'm from there but have lived in NC for many years. But real home for me is Mich. :-) Glad the kids helped you to get everything set in the ground. Can't wait to see it all about Aug. :-)

I have that problem with wasps the past several years. Really fresh mulch gets extremely hot as it starts to break down and sometimes that heat can affect your plants but otherwise Ive found it to be very good for the soil and it sure does help with weeds and moisture.

We put some raised beds like yours on a slope in our yard last year. They are great! One problem we had was that the beds drained to the area right in front of the beds, leaving it perpetually muddy. It was a bit of a pain to work in those beds because we were stepping in mud. My husband built little decks in front of each raised bed to give us a nice place to work them. That has worked out really well, just in case you end up with the same issue.
