1978, I was at my grand parent's place somewhere near Duesseldorf, I had just watched "time machine / Zeitmaschine" by H. G. Wells on tv then listened to this wonderful song on my analogue cassette recorder. I was 13, life was exciting, now it's 2022 and I still love this song
What a gem. So distant and cold but warming at the same time. A shame he died too young, had potential to be giant in the 80s considering this is from late 70s.
Carlos Isais Beautiful album, I still have my copy on record, don’t know if it’s available on CD? I should have a look! But for now, this is going on my playlist 😁👍👍
I regretfully don’t have my synthesizers no more, wish I did as I’d be composing a piece in memory of this young talented musician,I hope some electronic musicians get together to record something for this man R I P I’ve shared your beautiful music
I always had the feeling that somehow Tangerine Dream, Kluster or Edgar Froese were behind Wolfgang Riechmann... very interesting record... thanks for sharing
"Wunderbar" sounds warm and cold, snowy and sunny. In between fields and territories. And all the rest is majectic, beautyful, visionnary humble... The ones who stabbed him shut off a precious flame. His "lalala"coming on top at 34 :00... i dont even have words to express what i feel. Love maybe. Friendlyness.

Julian cope is a fan ... Wunderbar is a wunderful album. If you like Man Machine era Kraftwerk then you'll love this. Wolfgang looks extremely cool on the cover despite wearing blue lipstick (I kid you not !) In the 60's Wolfgang was in Spirits of Sound with Wolfgang Flur later of Kraftwerk. In the 70's Wolfgang played a major role in Streetmark's classic album 'Eileen'. However, 'Eileen' was not a huge commercial success and so Wolfgang was full of doubts about his own abilities when he set about recording Wunderbar. The opening track of the album is the title track 'Wunderbar' which is ultra-catchy. They must put something in the water in Dusseldorf which results in superb melodies. Another standout track is 'Siberland' which is effectively a slowed down version of Kraftwerk's 'Metropolis' from Man Machine. The parallel here is interesting as Man Machine and Wunderbar were both recorded in 1978, although I don't know which one hit the shops first. Who is copying who ? 'Himmelblau' would not sound out of place on a La Dusseldorf album. Clearly Dinger and Rother have based their whole career around songs which feature the words 'La' and 'Dusseldorf'. In the case of 'Himmelblau' Riechmann goes one step further by only using the word 'La' in the lyrics. Simplicity is best. The album finishes with a short omninous sounding instrumental. Sadly, shortly after Wunderbar was recorded Wolfgang was murdered (having been stabbed in a Dusseldorf barroom brawl). This is a great shame as judging by the evidence of Wunderbar, Wolfgang could have gone on to great things.
THIS WAS RECORDED IN DUSSELDORF IN 1978 AND SO WAS DIE MENCH MACHINE .Kraftwerk were very private .I am sure they did not let anyone hear the album before it was released and even so .... they were BOTH pioneers
I'm sorry everyone but after finding this incredible pre-Numan/Berserker picture sleeve, I'm thinking no way should this be mentioned in the same breath as the great Kosmiche Music artists. It's not stark enough to be robotic, nor empty enough to be ambient but certainly it's derivative and dispensible. To describe the bloke as a virtuoso is a joke. It sounds like he's crept into Kling Klang and dicked around playing pentatonic scales ad lib on Kraftwerk's instruments while they're out on their lunchbreak. No I won't be buying this one.
no-one here claimed he was a virtuoso, only that the mood is cool & the melodies are lovely. Kosmiche did not emphasize proficiency, tho some had great players (Can). it’s prog that gets into the diddley stuff.
@@MrBenmanning seriously. this has its own vibe, which is why it is great. coming up with narrow boxes to suffocate enjoyment in is missing the feeling
mr. or mss. ichlotzTV....with all do respect.... wether you think this music is boring or not I do not want to argue... I only want you to consider this....this music was composed and played in a area when there was little understanding about electronic music... the most prominent figures in those days took it from a ( lets say) symphonic angle...Mr Riechmann explored a more minimalistic way, which (in hindsight I dare to say) went shoulder to shoulder with the punk attitude in rock music ( like Neu, Cluster)...Now..I do not want to lecture you in what you should or shouldn't like....music is (and must stay) a personal experience.... but I would like to state that Mr Riechmann deserves a place in ( musical) history......................love you anyways

Das können sie auch heute noch.

he was in a group called Streetmark before going solo
He needs an English page

I heard he died. If not, hope he's ok.
Tragically, he died 1978 in Düsseldorf. He was stabbed by some Lushes.
Before this album was released.
Sounds like he borrowed Jean-Michel Jarre's equipment
It's so nice to steal KRAFTWERK's "METROPOLIS" on the track starting at 17.07 and nobody sue you for it!
