It is (relatively) easy, its essentially just the artsy branch of the initial new wave/punk movement (those were synonims at first) and its off shoots. They were all about a low barrier of entry and stripping things down like earlier rock. The fact that its so simple with a low barrier of entry yet can be so impactful and expressive is something I find really beautiful about it!
Bernard Sumner. This dude looked like he'd run the youth club at church, but he played some of the iciest, ominous guitar tones I've ever heard. He is a huge inspiration to me, and I named my Monchhichi doll after him (Barney). Also, huge W to Desmond for handing out these tutorials for FREE.
00:35 riff sounds a lot like Yugoslav post-punk, in my mind enters Paraf, La strada, Buldozer, Pekinska patka, Elekticni ogarazam... Zlatni papagaj (song) from Elektricni orgazam is the first song that came across my mind.
That music theory is correct. I have an ear for dissecting music cross genre and a lot of people don't realize how relative it is. For example, what you just played is reminiscent of some Pop Music in the 80s and you can turn THAT into Punk as well. I dig it 🎵 🎸
I like the downstrokes vibe on guitar and also like on your bass video. I wouldn't use barre chords probably but I think it could be cool to have a post punk meets hardcore punk type vibe in a song. The closest thing I could compare it to is maybe Samhain?
Lol pretty sure the dude in the "whatever this is" photo is the Rev Kriss Hades. He was a fixture in the Sydney black and death metal scenes for a long time, played with Sadistik Exekution and Nazxul among many others.

Woah
Is that an Idles reference?
@@bodee-m2e its gotta be a gang of four reference - big post punk band
@@bodee-m2e yes
Dang I didn’t realize idles version was a cover.. my bad!
When the world needed him the most . . .
Check out Xenith
The world is ready for this sound again.
My 14yo plays me music when I drive her to school, there is a LOT of chorused bass and jangly guitars.
hell nah
@@tapok665 😴
It's already popular with newer artists
A lot of indie music nowadays sounds like this. Yot club is one.
the great revival starts here
I wouldn't be surprised if we get another wave of post-punk revival this decade.
Post punk revival revival
Bro post punk and darkwave are pretty damn big, now. Tons of playlists on spotify.
@@acatnamedjoex4688it’s been for a few years I think.. I’ve already grown tired of it and moved on to 90s and 00s indie
😭😭💀💀🙏🤓🤓🤓🤓
The fact that you make it look so easy still doesn’t take away the brilliance.
it is easy, that's what makes it brilliant

It’s punk but sad
Punk is the easy part, the post is where it gets complicated
I like the way you simplify this, it's literally how the cure apparently write songs
Keep It Simple, Stupid
I've always loved how cold and metallic post-punk guitar was, particularly in the case of Gang of Four and Killing Joke (RIP Geordie)
Geordie was a true legend
This video: Good
The ad for the new EP at the end of the video: GREAT
I'm not a music man, just recently found out what was post punk was and that part at 1:40 is absolutely beautiful man
My favorite post punk guitar / bass / synth player is a guy named Desmond Doom. Counting the hours to hear your new EP, congratulations!
i like how your t shirt has a joy division logo but the cure written above it, and a smiths song below it

never before has a nuanced subject been made so clear, so simple, in a two minute vid. just genius.
why does it sound SO GOOD
hey thanks man, have a wheel of genre on my stream making music, got post punk and this totally put it all in perspective super fast
00:35 riff sounds a lot like Yugoslav post-punk, in my mind enters Paraf, La strada, Buldozer, Pekinska patka, Elekticni ogarazam... Zlatni papagaj (song) from Elektricni orgazam is the first song that came across my mind.
I was thinking Molchat Doma from Belarus.
Can we count KKN in there also?
John McGeoch has to be my favourite post-punk guitarist
John McKay and Robert Smith are really great as well; the Banshees had some incredible guitarists.
Same. His run of bands is insane, yet makes absolute sense when you hear what the man was doing.
Craig Scanlon
Those high notes rising in the mix like carried by waves make me feel warm in the brain
Desmond Doom, you never cease to warm my heart and put a smile on my face
We need this type of music back in our lives
Thanks for putting the effects and eq on there!
Even though I'm not much into post punk, the sounds on this video were pretty inspiring to me. Thanks!
Awesome! Great breakdown of post-punk guitar. The bass and percussion were also on point. Thank you!
A new Desmond Doom Video? Don't mind if I do. Recently purchased Surf Goth and I love it!
Thought this was gonna be a shitposty kinda video but nope just a good solid tutorial. Thank you!
Molchat Doma one of my favorites.
Also amazing tutorial and musc. Much love from Mongolia
More of this please!
I'm have been using all you taught me to make a fake post punk demo from 198X. 😀
The most mysterious song lore slowly unravels
Very good, perfect, practical and straight to the point 🎯
Amazing video as always. My favourite guitarists of this genre is Gang of Four's fella, John McGeoch (Banshees) and Robert Smith.
Not listened to Gang of Four, will check them out
I had no idea I’ve been playing post punk when I jam with my friends! At least I can now say it is a genre. Thanks for the video!
Loving these How To videos 😇
Such a cool sounding tune
When I see these videos pop up in my subscription feed I am so happy. Thank you.

yoo i love your music i just realized this was you!!!
This is brilliant.
I don't know any thing about guitars, but this sounds so amazing! I love it, great work, Sir Desmond Doom
I love your tutorials man. Thank you
Time to bring post punk back, post punk came around when the world looked pretty bleak. Just the thing we need again.
I like the downstrokes vibe on guitar and also like on your bass video. I wouldn't use barre chords probably but I think it could be cool to have a post punk meets hardcore punk type vibe in a song. The closest thing I could compare it to is maybe Samhain?
Thanks. I'm on it. You inspire me to pick up my guitar and have at it.
love this series!
The video is cool.
Favourite post-punk guitarist:
Victor Tsoi, Yuri Kasparyan
BAAAASED, YURI IS AMAZING
The solo in Spokoyana Noch is one of the BEST ever ...
This is an enjoyable video
Man, the 5 second punk kicker 'Wrong' was cool and then you morphed it in to the song of the summer. Love what you do!
What a cool sounding tune
You sound like a british version of Mark Hoppus. Great video mate
Fully sick ule!
The beauty never stops🖤🖤🖤🖤
Distortion delay and reverb was awesome!
Desmond Doom does it again
Yes! Been waitong for a vid.
Simple techniques that are simply awesome. I'm gonna go write a song.
2:10 Bernard Sumner
Even not knowing how to play guitar I find this fascinating, hahaha
Thank you for the videos :)
Thank you for uploading
Can you do a video about the drum beats and EQing? The drums in these are dope!
my favorite guitarist is Edwin van der Velde of the Band Bragolin. would love to learn playing guitar like him
New Desmond Doom music🎉🎉🎉 🎉
New EP let’s go!!!
Beautiful!
New EP! Nice!
absolute wonder!!! thankyou so much! Beautiful song!
can’t wait for the Post-punk revival revival
Lol pretty sure the dude in the "whatever this is" photo is the Rev Kriss Hades. He was a fixture in the Sydney black and death metal scenes for a long time, played with Sadistik Exekution and Nazxul among many others.
Dude, a genius
I loved that sound
I love how exited the guy in the thumbnail is
Genius
0:35 me: wrong! 0:39 Desmond: wrong!
Great stuff, nailed it! My fav post-punk guitarists are Bernard Sumner, Vini Reilly, Matthew Ashman, John McGeoch and Jonny Marr (if he counts)
Marr definitely counts in my books!
hell yeah, keep it up man
new album looks sick
Greg Sage but thats if you consider the Wipers post punk or not ( I do). Favorite Bass in post punk well that has got to be Peter Hook.
Really been into Vison Video lately. Dusty Gannon is great on both guitar and vocals.
I don't even like post punk, but liked for your unpretentious, informative delivery.
I clicked on the video expecting satire. But now, 2 minutes later, I can play post-punk, a genre I never listened to before
The GOAT
I love your channel pls post more 🙏
Fresh stuff!! Awesome!
This is really good! Reminds me of Castle Beat
New dezz just dropped fuaaaaark yeah!
this guy knows his genres 😅lovely stuff
Keith Levine, Johnny Marr, Geordie Walker would be some personal favorites of mine. McGeoch would be up there too
you rock, thanks!
my band has been writing some posr punk adjacent stuff lately and my guitar of choice is a jackson rhoads v
Another great how to!
ill make sure to get you writing credits when i write my next song
I love your videos.
great era.. thought this sound was a bit gloomy and miserable at the time but grew to love it later in life!
This guy has got chops, and I'm not talking about his facial hair.
that solo part reminded me of moonchild by kc
Damn bruh ❤❤❤ Post Punk DarkWave electronic music revival
Great video
So good so good. Made me laugh and smile and try it myself!
genius!
Thank you cured my writers block :)
Paul Reynolds was massively underrated.
