Basically, the bigger the target or the more space/cells it occupies, the more the damage; the "extra" damage is dealt to the cells the building is placed on. The real damage output can only be shown properly when you fire at one-cell buildings, like base-defenses. But 5:20 shows even without the area damage, the Grand Cannon still packs a punch.
Basically, if someone plays as France on a map like Roundhouse Kick, where everyone starts off quite close to each other, you'd better not deploy your MCV in its starting location or you're in for a baaaaaaaaaad time

It took me until now to understand the AoE damage against structures deals more damage the larger the structure is. That's why dreadnoughts, kirovs, V3s and grand cannons are so powerful against structures, especially con yards, factories and superweapons! No wonder no one liked playing against France.

Reminds me like when Heroes of might and magic 3 having necroplis ban due to "cloak of balanced king" that created fuckton of liches after each won battle.
For those of you that don't know, the reason cannon does worse against stuff like prism tower pill box and patriot is because they are only once cell towers. Because of that Grand cannon can't stack its damage with the splash
In case you guys wondering, here is explanation why Grand Cannon which is as tough as Patriot vs Apoc but got rekt by one Kirov bomb. To put it simple, larger building take more damage from weapon with splash effect. Unlike Apoc guns, Kirov bomb deal splash damage, given it affect 3x3 tiles, Cannon cover 2x2 tiles, and Patriot covers 1 tile. When Kirov bombs Patriot, it's the only the center tile of damage take effect thus Patriot take less damage, on the other hand, Grand Cannon didn't just take the direct damage from center tile but also another 3 of splash. That's why BTW, if you have a "rules.ini" file, try to mod the Grand Cannon gun ROF to 1 and you'll see something funny.
This is the video that showed me that rushing an engineer into the enemy base early to capture any building and build a Grand Cannon inside their base to utterly cripple one player's early game is a viable strategy. topkek
The defense structure in which it's available to you on all base building Allied missions in Yuri's Revenge. You never get to build this in vanilla Red Alert 2 Allied Campaign.
What is truly missing is in this video is how fast they can turn . Their true weakness is the turn speed. If you attack from behind all cannons will turn away and stay turned until your attack force is already almost at the enemy base. Also I don't think the V3 launcher is the only unit that can outrange the grand cannon. The dreadnought, boomer and aircraft carrier should also be able to do so.

If an enemy starts building Grand Cannons within range of your base then you have already lost. You are going to start seeing all your production buildings leveled while your units take a beating the moment they are built, if not destroyed outright. The V3 outranging it isn't even much of a weakness. Slap some AA nearby and the rockets will never touch your cannon.

They have a minimum range. What bugs me is that the tanks will automatically stop so they are within range instead of driving right up next to them where the cannon can't hit them at all.
When you are on a island building Grand Cannons to defend your island from ships then you realize the enemy is Korea and brings in Black Hawks and Aircraft Carriers then lands the hovercrafts that are carrying lots of troops... DAMNIT!!!
Isn't the dead zone around a grand cannon a bit smaller than the range of a Prism tower? I guess the idea is the dead zone stops it from being an "all aspect" defense, and the only units that can outrange it are ones with projectiles you can shoot down.

Prism tower and Tesla coil have no minimum range and can kill Rhino or Other tank 1v1 whereas Grand cannon cannot 1v1 Main tanks since they can rush in and get inside Grand cannon minimum range.

grand cannons are glass cannons... the key is to build lots of them where you expect the enemy AI to come. They have a very slow reload and turn rate, but if it's already turned and if it only needs to fire once, then it doesn't matter. Weaknesses are slow reload, turn speed, high price, high power consumption, low hitpoints Strong points are high damage and high very far range. You either decimate the enemy with it, or you get your ass handed on a plate.

Oddly enough I don't think I've ever played YR even though I've watch about it on YT. I never knew the siege choppers deal so much damage per shot in ground mode.

Buildings have Trainable=no set by default, IIRC. So no. But even if you were to allow buildings to become veteran/heroic/elite, you'd still end up with a veteran Cannon at best, if at all. To become a veteran, a unit (or building, if allowed) must destroy 3 times its worth, IIRC, and even an elite Apocalypse is not worth $6000 ($2k * 3).

The Sentry turret has a rotating turret, so it takes a split second longer to attack something directly behind it. Otherwise it has the exact same stats.....I think.

I find it funny how a large defensive structure is also a fantastic building killer. Really useful for setting up a "no Build here" zone.

This defense is effectively an anti-siege turret as everything except V3s are outranged by it.
The fact defensive cannon can deal that much on building really make it easy to cheese it out by building near enemy base

@@tg.Sacred They deserved to be compared since Grand cannon, Prism tower and Tesla Coil are advanced ground base defenses.
Prism tower and Tesla coil have no minimum range and can kill Rhino or Other tank 1v1 whereas Grand cannon cannot 1v1 Main tanks since they can rush in and get inside Grand cannon minimum range.

grand cannons are glass cannons... the key is to build lots of them where you expect the enemy AI to come. They have a very slow reload and turn rate, but if it's already turned and if it only needs to fire once, then it doesn't matter.
Weaknesses are slow reload, turn speed, high price, high power consumption, low hitpoints
Strong points are high damage and high very far range.
You either decimate the enemy with it, or you get your ass handed on a plate.
I made a test map that gives you all of the units and buildings. It also has some units that are in the files but unsued or deactivated.
If you want I can send you the map or just the ini code so you can use them in any map.

You have buildings that you can spy, although not necessary
There is a ton of ore and oil on the map

If you add say a few pillar box's and walls around the Grand cannons, would this help draw away fire and give the grand cannons enough time to dispatch the attackers?
Oddly enough I don't think I've ever played YR even though I've watch about it on YT. I never knew the siege choppers deal so much damage per shot in ground mode.

You could litteraly attack bases with this you build power plant then cannon then power plant and repeat.

They will abort if boris is dead or retract his laser pointer. The mig will return if boris paint another target while the mig is still in the airspace.

Buildings have Trainable=no set by default, IIRC.
So no.
But even if you were to allow buildings to become veteran/heroic/elite, you'd still end up with a veteran Cannon at best, if at all.
To become a veteran, a unit (or building, if allowed) must destroy 3 times its worth, IIRC, and even an elite Apocalypse is not worth $6000 ($2k * 3).
@@CnCDune yeah, to be promoted to elite it'll need to destroy $6000 worth of units, that's the same price as 3 Battle Fortresses and to get to veteran it'll need to destroy another $6000 worth of units, over all a Grand Cannon needs to kill 120 Conscripts to get to veteran level... LOL

The Sentry turret has a rotating turret, so it takes a split second longer to attack something directly behind it. Otherwise it has the exact same stats.....I think.
