Comedic value? That's arguable there's a lot of really funny characters. But, Roger is far and away the funniest. But this shows actual epsidoes are well written and actually have good plots.

I just realized that everyone sees Roger as human like, so when he recreated that scene of Stan and Francine killing Steve it probably actually looked like that to everyone
I think that's one of the funniest things about Roger for me, how his personas work so perfectly well, despite having grey skin, a ginormous head, and just... looking like that. It's gotta be his strongest power, haha.

In all honesty, roger is a really complicated character. New personalities every episode. He’s gotta be really difficult to write for.
I think they start with Roger's persona and build the episode on it. Id say it makes it easier.

I just realized that Roger protects the family in his own twisted way. When there is any activity outside the family he is not sure about, he takes over as the overseer to ensure that he controls the "sandbox" to make sure nothing REALLY bad happens to them. That doesn't mean he wont screw with them, humiliate them, or get them in trouble of some sort while they are doing their thing, but he ensures that it is either the kind of trouble one of his personas can get them out of, or something that he can pin on someone outside the family. It also gives him something to do, since he gets bored real easy, and gets him out of the house for a while.
I was thinking the same thing. He definitely keeping them safe.
He literally saves them from himself when his future self travels back in time 3 days to prevent himself from killing them... But future Roger actually comes back in time to crash the spaceship into the sun and present Roger ends up saving everyone in

This is why American Dad is better not only than Family Guy but a lot of adult animation. The character of Roger means there’s infinite possibilities for stories. The show feels a lot more free.

I know the terms underrated and underappreciated are wildly and constantly misused on the internet these days, but I do think American Dad can sometimes be described by those words. At least compared to Family Guy. It's a shame Family Guy still overshadows American Dad, and I think a lot of people still write it off as being derivative of Family Guy, when it really isn't at all aside from the art style.

Stan creates the bootstrap paradox when he gives Dr Gerald Yaya the information for MDMA. It was only created because Rodger discovered it and then wrote down the recipe for it and was then given to him in the past therefore it was never actually created yet still exists. Stan breaks the SpaceTime Continuum here.

You can walk in a business and steal a bunch of stuff and walkout; even with video evidence, police wont take the case unless its a certain amount of $ value that was stolen. Then if you do go to jail for stuff; it's basically free living off of societies hard work. Taxes that could go towards roads, housing, etc.
Not to mention the same people who ruin housing/property and drive up prices of products/living, tend to be the same ones who have criminal records and generally dont keep jobs or provide back to society.
The country will only get better when the punishments for crime is so extreme that people wont commit crime, and those who do will be exiled from society.
