- Mark Mercuri was one of the most skilful players to pull on the red and black in recent memory, known for his silky movements, classy play and wonderful finishing skills. Throughout his career he played 207 games for the Bombers, kicked 242 goals, won premierships in 1993 and 2000, and in 1999 alone he won the Crichton Medal as Essendon’s best & fairest, was runner-up in the Brownlow medal, and was retrospectively awarded that year’s ANZAC Day medal.
His career highlights are a joy to watch, so I hope all you Bomber fans enjoy this tribute to the man known as the Mercedes Benz - the Mercurial Mark Mercuri!
(Thank you again to my brother for designing the intro and outro to this video)
Met him at National Tiles couple of years ago. Super humble and down to earth
The Silk. The Mercedes Benz. Hair never out of place......... NEVER! Love Mercs.
Champion!
He was an absolute champion. Our whole team through the 90’s were great. I miss players like that.
My teammate is mark mecuris son so if you want to see him I play for bloods
"Denhem, Bewick, O'Donnel, Mercuri can kick a goal".
Ahhh, those were the days.
Astonishing. Thank you Mark for all the joy you brought Bombers fans. ❤️🖤❤️🖤
What a player. What a team we had.
We'll get there again. It may take a while but we'll get there!
Thanks so much for this, what a player he was.
Never quite at his best after his brother passed away, but that could have been age too. Wonderful, wonderful player.
Yeah going through something like that would rattle anyone, but at his best Mercs was one of the silkiest players in the league!
Yes, he was a special player with the perfect skills of all time and a wonderful mark for his size as well he should have won a brownlow medal in 1999. I still believe that
Bombers need a team of Mark Mercuri's and they would be absolutely unbeatable.
He was seriously rated. He was still the most underrated player in the comp.
I needed this in my life. You’re a star @dw29392
Thank you, but players like Mercuri are the real stars. And he gave me so much to work with for this video!
Awesome video mate thank you for this. I wish I got to see more of mercuri but i was born in 98.. regardless he's still one of my favourite all time players. Would also love to see a highlight video of Mark Johnson and Jason Johnson
Glad you enjoyed it!
Super player mercs
The qualifying final we played in 1999 against Sydney, where he played 1.5 quarters & tore the game apart was him in a nutshell. Just devastating at his best, he could have 10 disposals & with that kick 5 & give 5 assists. Everything the modern day stat based player is not
If you haven't already, feel free to check out the highlights for that match here: ruclips.net/video/hdUu5kwwPxY/видео.html
FIND ME a more underrated player ever to play the game
Absolutely, I would love to see that we were almost underdeafted in the year 2000 and even in 1999 I know that we lost to Carlton by the smallest of marriage,s just a point we should have played the kangaroos in that year I agree with you
Deserved a brownlow.
He's got more premierships than a lot of Brownlow winners, that's what matters the most!
@@dw29392 He still deserved one
Yeah I agree with you on that
What a gun
Mercurial is almost too poor a description. What a player. Should be our kicking coach!!!
Well said Nick!
When you realise the time of the video is 33:33
Haha when I was making the video I got within a few seconds of that so I shaved off some time to make it look cool!
hes my cousin
Your cousin was a champion player!
You wish that he is your cousin
He’s my cousin too, think third cousin
