- I have an interesting project come through the door. I need to mate a newer generator to the back of an old Detroit diesel engine. Looks like this will be a 3 part video series so follow along and I hope you enjoy. Thanks for all the support and new subscribers.
Hello Tom,
Nicely made engine mounting brackets... Off to watch part 2 now...
Take care.
Paul,,
Thanks Paul.
Nice project Tom I like how you never overcomplicate things. Your loyal helper adds a nice touch to your videos. Can't wait for the next episode.
Thanks Jim. I appreciate your support. Khaos says thanks too. Actually he said woof woof. 😁
There needs to be some kind of torsional dampner in there to avoid damaging the generator. It probably had like a rubber flex disk in that fan area.
great job Tom👍👍👍👍
interesting project👍👍👍👍
regards
Kev (UK)
Thanks Kevin. 🙏
I like how you are looking out for having to service the unit in the future
Thanks Chris.
Mr Chaos says Daddy that some big dog work right there boss lol. Thanks for taking us along Tom! Looking forward to the next vid on the build.

Thanks for watching Dave.
Enjoyed…nice fab, looking forward to follow your build…
Thank you Chuck. 🙏
You get some very interesting jobs Tom. Good plan to fix this problem. I like the metal saw. Made short work of cutting that metal plate to size. Cheers Nobby
Hey there Nobby. I love the metal saw especially for thicker material. I use it more than my plasma cutter now that I have it.
It's nice to put a face to the name so to speak. You really get some interesting projects.
Probably makes a little more sense now. I hope to have your part next week so I can finish up.
Looks like a fun challenge to work through.
It has been a fun one so far Greg. Learned something about generators in part 2 of the video. I am waiting on a laser cut piece of A36 right now.
Tom, that definitely looks great. It should be more than strong enough for the application. Great job
Thank you Steve. It has been a fun project so far.
Great work, Tom, so far. I like these off the cuff videos. They test your brain working around what you've got. $8000 wow. Can you get a new complete unit for that. Cheers Tony
Thanks Tony. I appreciate your support. Not sure.
Gday Tom, this looks an interesting job, these are the fun ones mate, great job, cheers
Hey Matty. Yep this one has it all. Fabbing and welding, machining and some press action.
Glad to see the working coming in. Bear
Thanks bear.
Nice work Tom. I like those old Detroits. I have a 471 in an old loader. Simple and sound great.🔧⚒️🔩
Hey Randy. I remember riding the Greyhound buses in the early 80's and I think they had the Detroits in them. Definitely had a unique sound.
G'day Tom, nice job on mounts, quick spray look like new😅 .
Excellent video, thanks
Thank you sir! 🙏
I love those old Detroits.
I hear they were pretty much bullet proof..
@@hilltopmachineworks2131 They were for sure.
Neat project. Plus the 3/8 plate will survive a nuclear strike.
I figured might as well go with the beef.
Good one Tom . 👍
Thanks Max.
good job Tom
Thanks buddy!
Can't wait for the next vid!!
Great job Tom ! .. Enjoyed 👍👍

I appreciate it Harold.
Flex plate.
Hey Tom looks like fun that is not a V its 2-54 or 2-71 i think its a twin . how much was the new unit and is it from China . It would be cool to mount one of those blades in a table saw you would need some HP not no cheep HF unit . JM
True. It is in line and not a V. I should have known better. Not sure on the cost of the unit but it was made in Georgia by "South Georgia Generator". I ended up calling them for some help in part 2 of the videos. Great customer support.
Yeah Tom that's cool made in the US
I corrected the title. 😊
2-71.....no Vee
Thanks. I just changed the title. 👍
