Opening up the gear box on the Horizontal Boring Mill
Just a short video this week as I take you along for a look inside the Defiance Boring Mill's gearbox. I am glad I decided to service it as there was pretty much no oil in it. The clutch drive is a pretty neat set up. Just wish I could figure out how to adjust it. If you have any suggestions leave them down below. Thanks for watching!

Machining an arbor and boring bar for the Horizontal Boring Mill
Просмотров 3 тыс.14 дней назад
Happy 2025 everyone. Trying to tool up the Defiance boring mill. I decided to hold off on drilling holes in the long bars for now. So I made a 12" bar at 1 3/4" diameter and modified an arbor I picked up off of E-Bay. We just got back from surgery and my wife is doing fine.

I just received my gift from Small Town Machine Shop as part of the secret Santa 2024 project. So lets open it up and check out what I got. If you are a creator and would like to be involved in next years project reach out to Steve at Firehouse Custom Fab. Also check out the other channels that were involved. Thanks everyone for a great year and see you in 2025.

I had some free time so I figured I would get an MT5 arbor made for a 2" face mill I picked up to use on the HBM. I hope you enjoy a lot of machining content because I end up using all 3 lathes and both my milling machines making the arbor. The video does run a bit long so sorry about that. Have a Merry Christmas!

I am proud to be involved again in the secret Santa project that Steve at Firehouse Custom Fab has put together. I decided to machine up one of those 3 inch pocket levels that are real handy to have around in the shop. Thanks for watching and check out the other channels making things for the #Secret Santa 2024.

I know you have seen the large steel beams on the shop floor in previous videos. So I am building a roof out in front of my shop over the concrete pad. It has been quite the under taking because the steel is large and heavy and I have limited shop space to work on a project this large. It will be nice once it is done. All the fab work is done. I am just waiting for some dry weather. It has been...

If you machine a shallow groove a few millimeters from the held-end of the boring bar, it will help align the bar when fitting into the socket.

Don't over do it. Clean it. Cover the cone with sharpie and make sure you are making contact through the entire cone. Should s all it up
