What I really want to know is if you equip the same weapon in both slots, do your augments apply to both weapons? Seems like it could be a fair trade off to the reduced versatility of having only one weapon type.
No. You get to equip each hand with its own augment, though. You could have a burst-fire flamethrower and an acid sprayer, a long-range grabbing claw and a full-auto claw, a flaming railgun and a chain-lightning railgun, etc. That more than makes up for having to equip the same weapon type, because they're hardly the same weapons at all. Ki11er Six do you know if "Thin Red Line" will synergize with "Desperate Measures" in Moze's skill tree. Because if so that will be a permanent huge boost to gun damage.
It will. But not a huge boost since you lost up to 60% HP by TRL, you won't be getting the full bonus from DM, in addition Moze has weaker shield regen skills than Axton, and health gate only activates when you have 50%+ HP, running on 40% HP can be pretty extreme.

Class mods still matter, at the very least. Also, you won't be able to stay in the mech constantly unless there's an infinite stream of very-easy-to-kill enemies. It doesn't stack the same way D3TH-TP's and Gunzerking's duration increases do. Each increase is less effective than the one before it. Same for the cooldown reduction, which I will also point out requires her to get kills outside of the mech, so gear will matter. Also, if the mech gets destroyed in combat, which we know is possible because it has a health bar, then it won't matter how much of a duration increase you've given it, you have to wait out the cooldown. That said, you could definitely make a build that stacks Iron Bear's duration and cooldown as much as possible, exploits the free ammo ability upon leaving Iron Bear, spams a rocket launcher into a crowd for free to get Iron Bear back up as quickly as possible, and repeat. It will be pretty gimmicky, but it can definitely work. Still, you will need a shield at least strong enough to keep you alive during your time out of the mech, a class mod that supports the strategy, a powerful rocket launcher, and preferably a powerful grenade mod. It definitely WILL rely on you having good gear, it will just lighten the requirements for it. Also, the point of the game is not to farm loot. Jumping into Iron Bear can not only save you from dying in a hard fight, but it lets you apply cryo and radiation to your enemies so that they take more damage from your own weapons when you leave Iron Bear. Or you can specialize Moze to deal with a certain enemy type or combat situation (Let's say it's long-range and single-target, mostly.), then customize Iron Bear to deal with the kind of situations your main build is vulnerable to (In this case, it would be close-range swarms, so you would pick up the flamethrower, fist, grenade launcher, nuke, or a combination.).
