Emerald Zoysia | May June | Growth Progress | Activities Update

- Emerald Zoysia on 7/2/2020, along with growth progress over the months of May and June. Note that it hasn't reach it's peak yet, at 75% - 90% dense rate. I will be showing its fullness on next video which will include mowing and trimming.
This year it picks up a little slow this year as there were no rain at all during late May to late June.
Did:
. How Bermuda at 1" looks
. Dog urine damages
. Shady area vs sunny area.
. Using cctv to find out shady and sunny spots on yard (number of hours of sunlight)
. Leveling few low spots with native clay soil (need some trick)
. Installing new sprinkler head to cover dryer spot
. Modifying Fiskar reel mower to go much lower
. Test the lowered reel mower on Bermuda
. How thin the tree canopy should be trimmed

Hi Vic. Your making great videos. Thank you. I’m in McKinney also(Virginia near Custer) and it’s hard to find zoysia help for our area. I layed 4K sqft of palisades zoysia last month and I’m really enjoying it. I was thinking about making some videos as well.

mikeje305 I agree...there’s not much content for zoysia lawns...everything is either cool season lawns or Bermuda lawns.
Hi there. What should I do when I have a lot of dead grass? Can I dethatch and put a new lawn soil ?

JP, yes dethatcher would be the best way. this kind , people that use it love it

no need to add soil. you need to rejuvenate the soil but spreading a thin layer of compost or humic will do. or thin layer of composted chicken manure (Calloway's nursery carries if $6.99 per bag). Do it with spreader. remember , thin layer only, (just barely cover the soil surface will do). too much or too thick will burn the grass.
Do you increase mowing height when it gets very hot, 95+? My zeon zoysia is browning due to the recent heat.
No i didn't. still at 1.5". 1" at certain low spots. Hope the browning wasn't due to fertilizer..?
@@peacemakervic1290 No, just sod that I planted in May. I only added some starter fertilizer once it browned a little. I only water sparingly and a lot at once so the roots grow deep. What is your watering schedule like?
Where did you get those white hydrangeas?
It's available at Calloway's Nursery at around early to mid April 2019. I got it from the one at Eldorado Pkwy, McKinney, TX. Little pricey $89 but totally worth it.
Thanks for the update. Nice to see the kiddos enjoying the yard. I have Emerald in my backyard. Bermuda within at some spots. Any suggestion how to rid them ?

Ok. I’m going to try brush concentrated weed/grass killer on its leaves .... hopefully I won’t spill on the zoysia!
