Severino gave a very gutsy performance, and he pitched BIG when he had to. But he also kept putting himself in trouble. It was a shaky performance, but he got it done and didn't break. I wouldn't say he showed he is BACK. If this is the pitcher he remains for the Houston series (assuming Houston beats TB), both Severino and the Yankees are in trouble. Both Severino and Paxton were shaky in their starts. The Yankees NEED AT LEAST ONE OF THEM TO BE BETTER, going forward. But give Severino a lot of credit for a very gutsy performance, and getting big outs when he needed to.
True definition of a great player, isn’t how well you do when everything is going right. But how you respond when everything’s going wrong, that’s pressure and that’s clutch. My ACE ❤️ Sevy
@brett bono 1st of all, that means 91% of bases-loaded jams end up with runs being scored. So that means, according to the odds/percentages, yeah it is hard to do (and unlikely). 2nd of all, what percentage of bases-loaded jams, WITH NO OUTS, results in no runs being scored? How about giving credit where credit is due?. If you think it's easy to get out of a bases-loaded jam, with no outs, without giving up a run, then what can I say??
@brett bono. Again if getting out-of-a-bases-loaded, no-out-jam isn't the least bit impressive to you, then again, what can I say? (other then, that's ridiculous) But I kind of suspect you are kind of impressed and kind of appreciate it when a pitcher for your team does it.
But whether or not you are really silly enough not to have any appreciation at all for it, the fact is, if pitchers are only able to do it 9% of the time, that means mathematically A PITCHER IS NOT ABLE TO DO IT THE GREAT MAJORITY OF THE TIME, which LOGICALLY means it is a difficult thing to do. That is just basic math and basic logic. As well as basic baseball.
Brian OSullivan that the AL central is a joke lol. Yankee fan here but respect to the twins stills. They hit mad bombs this year and set the record by just one more than my yanks. But bombers mean serious business this year bruh, the astros are no joke tho. Boutta be a wild series
Wutang Footy As a Yankees fan, the only team in the AL that I respect are the Astros. The Twins, I agree, feasted on a very weak AL Central. The A’s, I never felt that they had the pitching depth to go deep in a playoff run. As for the Astros, they are deep on all sides. This isn’t a team that just hammers the ball, they have some very disciplined hitters. Their starting pitching is incredibly deep. Cole, Verlander, and Greinke are tough match ups to say the least. If the Yankees can win one in Houston, they’re heading to the World Series. If the Astros win one in New York, it’ll be a very long series for the Yankees. It could be a very fun series if Houston holds off Tampa Bay.
Dennis Jones If you play 54 games against the bottom third of the Majors (White Sox, Royals and Tigers), those wins add up fast. Other than Indians, the Twins didn’t have much competition to go up against. I agree, much of Minnesota’s 101 wins was against candy-coated competition. If you were to look at a team that has won 95+ games, ask the question, “Where did the wins come from?” The Yankees, however, hammered the Rays and Red Sox (even in a supposed down season). That was real competition, even though fed on the Orioles, but they had to.
Brian OSullivan yes, their pitching was suspect especially after losing a good pitcher in Pineda. Some teams just lack clutch pitching and hitting when the pressure is on . Every team has its weaker players, the Twins just didn’t have enough players step up and make a difference.
I can tell you rn getting out of a jam is not easy and he was only 3 games into his return last season and he was throwing heat and now we have Cole I smell a champion in the Bronx for the 2020 season
That reminds me the time my son played in a local little league all star tournament game. He was the starting pitcher and got quick three outs (2Ks) in the first inning. The 2nd inning, he got 0:2 on their 4th batter before the batter hit a grounder to 2nd base and our 2nd baseman missed the play. My son started struggling after that with two walks. Suddenly, base loaded no out. Coach visited mound. The next batter hit to the first. Our first baseman threw to home base. Base loaded and one out. My son struck out the next two batters. When the last batter swung and missed, that was the best feeling ever and will be the best memory for the rest of my life.
Coming back to this, Severino pitched brilliantly. Starting with Sano, he really slowed the game down and started to slowly take away any momentum the twins had
Really miss this dude. I hope he comes back dominant in 2021. And NO MORE injuries. I'm sick of the Yankees and their constant injuries. We want to see our stars play 140+ games and pitchers throw 20+ games
I feel sorry for Twins fans. The Twins snatched the all time team HR record from the Yankees only to get swept by them in the Division Series. Not only that but lose 5 straight playoff series to the Yankees...wow. As a Yankees fan im happy but can't help feel some love for Twins fans. Keep your heads up, you have a good team that im sure will keep pushing for playoff contention in future seasons.
The Royals from the '70s know something about this: '76 ALCS: lost 2-3; '77 ALCS: lost 2-3; '78 ALCS: lost 1-3; but they finally beat the Yanks in the '80 ALCS: 3-0.
@@OnlyEdandTheAlmost Agreed. I thought they could finally beat us back in 2010 and in this series in 2019 which I thought could go either way but they couldn't do it.
@Ratchet Going Commando All ALCS/ALDS Bronx Bombers are in great health currently if you're talking Zach Britton he's ok. Only Yankee we truly miss is Jacoby Elsebarry he's in our team spiritually
You can tell Twins were pressing. There were a few hangers made by Sevy and were missed or just missed. Call it fate or great positioning but once Twins did square up defense was there.
Gary Sanchez lives in my building for the 2nd year in a row and when I saw him next morning and we talked about this inning he said it was the key part of the game and deflated the Twins. But then again, what is this? 13th straight playoff win against Twins for the Yankees? They simply own them!
He honestly probably had early signs when the first injury happened at the end of 18' and in spring in 19'. The Yankees mismanaged him badly and he refused an MRI so both party's made mistakes but the only plus is his body besides his elbow is fresh and the mileage on the arm is low.
He had some luck. Gonzalez nearly got a hold of him, and if he had it was 4-1 twins. Then it's a whole different game... The Yankees were too tough overall. Granted. Rocco saving odorizzi for game 3, maybe he sent dobnak as a lamb to the slaughter in NY. Maybe he figured it was the twins only real hope...
I aged almost 20 years during this inning. When he got out of it, I nearly lost my ever loving mind. Thank goodness Severino is back.
On the downside, we got to hear Smoltz say "crooked number" for the hundredth time in three games.

BEING BACK would be pitching like a number 1 pitcher, or close to it.
So you must have aged like 100 years after watching that game. I think I started getting gray hairs by the 9th.
