  • The work continues on the barn. The plan was to pipe the dust collection under the floor but soon realized I should focus my attention on repairing the wall. After building a temporary wall inside the barn I replaced the sill plate and reinforced the wall with new studs.

    Never ceases to amaze me how Jon knows basically everything and makes all his projects look waaay easier than it is. Amazing. Wish I had a friend like that to ask about show to do stuff. Thank you for sharing.

    usually when I place a door and it's close to a room corner, I'd have it open the other way so that the door is against the corner of the room so as to give free movement in the room without a door in the way but I'm sure you thought this one through and have good reason to have it that way. nice clean work, as usual Jon. you inspire.

    Anyone else think that door swings the wrong way? Seems like it would be better to swing into the corner.

      Typically you always hang a door to open to the nearest wall

    • @franka5416
      @franka5416 4 года назад

      I was thinking the same thing. Looks like it'll swing into valuable floor space - maybe something else is destined for the "left" corner?

    You already have a few comments about the door and hinge but I was curious about another thing.
    You seem more like a traditional guy but also practical so I'm wondering if you considered getting one of those magnetic zipper doors.
    It's definitely not aesthetically pleasing but you wouldn't have to deal with opening and closing a door with your hands full or the door itself being in the way.
    I enjoy these update videos. I'm always impressed by the amount of thought and consideration you put into your projects, even simple or personal ones.

    Good morning everyone, as often is the case one project turns into another with an old building. Just curious do you call it a sill plate or a sole plate?
    Have a great weekend all!

      Sill Plate

    • @JDL_2020
      @JDL_2020 4 года назад +1

      Yes. Also mud sill or the base plate. They are all used by different people you run into. I use sill plate or base plate.
      I would have probably put in a bigger sliding pocket door(use up less wall space) to get projects through. I can only think you take the projects in another way?

    I'm sure you've seen then, but Frank Howarth mentioned air flow issues in his dust collection videos with his in-ground piping. The 90 degree fittings robbed the system of a lot of suction. Food for thought.

    Nice job. I'm sure you didn't set out to find rot to fix! I'm curious: did you consider going with a left-hinged door so that it would swing towards the closest corner and be less likely to be in your way as you open it?

    Hi Jon, thanks for posting this video, the shop Reno is looking good. I’m a king time viewer and have to say I really enjoy the mix of topics you cover. I think any homeowner that is interested in wood working would find value in what you post. Quick question on this video, I was wondering why you didn’t hang the door so it swings into the corner rather than into the room where it might block foot traffic. If you clip it so it sings out into the shed it looks like it might swing into the corner. I might be missing something though. Anyways thanks for this video, looking forward to the next one.

    Need to do this on one wall of my shop. Unfortunately, whoever built my garage put it right on the property line and I have to go into my neighbors yard to get to the exterior of that side. Been thinking about ways to bring the wall in a few feet.
