Now that I’ve seen the full video I want to express my thoughts on it. i got distracted by watching the livestream and having to do homework so that’s why I didn’t type this earlier. Absolutely amazing video. Everything from BritJackFilms, the Randy Newman joke, and to the books you describe and mention are spectacular. You never cease to amaze me about the amount of King Kong Trivia your bring to your videos. To me you are the definitive King Kong youtuber of all time. Nothing will ever come close. I’m gonna definitely try to get my hands on Kong King of Skull Island, The Making of King Kong 2005, maybe World of Kong History of Skull Island, King Kong Cometh, Kong Unmade The lost Films of Skull Island, and of course King Kong: History of A Movie Icon.
Nice to see a fellow patron of the Silver Snail. I have the original novelization, got it for Christmas, read it and loved it. I also have "The World of Kong" and "King Kong: The History of a Movie Icon, from Fay Wray to Peter Jackson" as well as "King Kong: The Island of the Skull." I'm always in pursuit of knowledge of my favourite movie monster and this new book you aided in has caught my interest. Also, I'm on the search for "King Kong vs. Tarzan", one of the plans for the unmade Dark Horse Comics for Kong brought to life as a regular novel and may prove more interesting that the Netflix way of bringing it to life.
My first exposure was in 6th grade, I saw the Crestwood House book and its captivating cover and immediately borrowed it, the pictures drew me in and my local library had both the B&W and colorized copies of the 33 film, rented them both and never turned back.
Great job on the video Jack. A fantastic deep dive into the wide variety of King Kong books that have appeared over the years. I am going to call you the Pagemaster now. Keep up the great work.
As much as I loved the movies, I really enjoyed the expanded mythology with the books. My favorite being “the world of Kong: a natural history of skull island” by weta
I hope you get Merian C. Cooper's King Kong, a rewrite of the original 1932 novelization which is the basis of the King Kong of Skull Island property!!!
The King Kong Reborn book is pretty good. A bit lengthy at nearly 400 pages, but it's worth the read. Certainly would make for a fun movie...but as you pointed it...it does tread on the JP DNA reconstruction thing a bit.
But at least THERE Kong's DNA was still in tact and hadn't decayed over the years. So, it was a bit more plausible... well, as plausible as a pulpy thriller about a resurrected giant gorilla who fights dinosaurs gets anyway.
In my case, I feel fortunate to own "The World of Kong: A Natural History of Skull Island." A shame it's out of print, I consider it a MUST for Kong fans; it's like the BBC "Walking With" trilogy, but in print and centering around Peter Jackson's version of Skull Island and its inhabitants. I also happen to own Ray Morton's book, Joe DeVito's "Kong: King of Skull Island" and his recently released "King Kong of Skull Island. Part One: Exodus." I too happen to have Anthony Browne's book; him casting the late, great Marilyn Monroe as Ann Darrow is *interesting* IMO. Makes one wonder (🤔)... I happen to own a mini version of "The Making of King Kong" by Jenny Wake, detailing the behind-the-scenes story of Peter Jackson's film. Finally, I have the novelizations of "King Kong 2005" and "Kong: Skull Island," plus a copy of Russell Blackford's "Kong Reborn."
I now want to own all of these also that book for Disney's Dinosaur I saw on your shelf btw I never knew Kong 05 had a full blown Dark Horse comic other than the mini comic we would get with the action figures.
I still have my original copy of THE GIRL IN THE HAIRY PAW (Avon Books, 1976), though it’s tattered and in pieces with a broken spine. It’s in such bad shape that I purchased a new copy that’s surprisingly in good condition. It’s similar to the later KING KONG COMETH (which I also own) in the sense that it’s a compilation of essays and articles by various writers. It even includes a segment hypothesizing on the proportions of Kong’s genitalia.
I bought THE KING KONG STORY that you show at the 28:10 mark at a grocery store either in late 1976 or early ‘77, and it was the first source that I’d seen of QUEEN KONG. It even included a photo of her.
I have honestly been starting to read a lot of books for the last year and some of these books I would definitely like to own in my line up one day also I actually remember my teacher reading Anthony brown’s King Kong book to me and my class in second grade
No offense but you forgot about Kong the 8th Wonder of the world comic book that came after you got king kong action figure from Playtails? @@BigJackFilms gotta be honest jack, i think what most people's (and my) facination with Gaw is that like Kong she feels less like just a dinosaur and like kong more like a mythical beast which makes her more of an interesting and worthy rival to the king of all apes (not that the t-rex isent a worth foe)
Jack, just discovered you and love your channel. Just want you to know, as a published author, I give this episode my seal of approval and think you deserve way more subscribers. On that note, I actually own copies of both The World of Kong and Kong Reborn and would be willing to lend them to you if your interested. Let me know what you think. Also, I love your Kong fan film, I respect anybody with dedication to what they enjoy.
Skip 'Kong Unbound' the only thing good about it is the cover illustration, and even if you have to take out a second mortgage 'The World of Kong: A Natural History of Skull Island ' is a must have. My recommendation for a hidden gem is the pastiche 'King Kong vs Tarzan' by Will Murray which is set in the, for lack of a better term DeVito Verse of Joe Devito, which fits in effortlessly between the DeVito's updated adaption of the original novel and titled as 'Marion C Cooper's King Kong' and Devito's 'Kong:King of Skull Island.'
Having now read the book KONG: AN ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY BY EDGAR WALLACE, which features both one of Wallace's original scripts and basically a biography on the prolific writer, his life and his involvement with Kong, i can now say that honestly Merian C. Cooper while deserving his credit really screwed Wallace over after his Death, "the finished film contains nothing written by Edgar Wallace" i call bullcrap on that, the majority of the story is all there despite the differences, i will never understand why Cooper was so Insistant that he was the one and ONLY creator of Kong, he deserves his credit to be sure but he was already a hero of two wars, an explorer and a famous movie producer, it was based on an idea of his, we wouldent have King kong today if it wasent for him, ruth rose, james creelman and Ernest Schoedsack, but i honestly think that Edgar Wallace deserves to be recognized as the true creator of the kong we know, or at least equally so to Merian c. Cooper

There is a pulp story that came out in 2013 called Doc Savage: Skull Island. Where Kong meets the Man of Bronze in the 1920's.

BigJackFilms I did. Also, you gotta review the pagemaster at some point.
That bit w/ the intro got a chuckle out of me.
Sweet but other books than my novel The Lost World of Michael Crichton are Godzilla Aftershock and Monster Manuals of Dungeons and Dragons.
I have that World of Kong book. My grandpa got it for me for Christmas back in 2005. I love it so much.
