Years ago there was a business in my area that posted the names and phone numbers of people who wrote bad checks. If you came back and made it right they would take your name down. If you didn't your name was left on the reader board and twice a year he published the name and addresses of the people who wrote bad checks to the business. One guy tried to sue and the judge said that telling the truth doesn't count as defamation. The plan worked quite well. The people who wrote the checks usually came in to settle the issue within a couple of days from the time their name was posted. Several people throughout the community complained that they lost their job or were passed over for better employment because of the reader board. His comment was "If you don't want your name to be shamed publicly don't write me a bad check."

My brother stole candy from my Uncle's store and my dad found it. My parents made him dress in his church clothes and back to the store he went. The march of shame he called it. Could barely make his feet move and he was shaking like a leaf. He said he could see the grief all over our uncle's face and in his words. When he got home he felt dad's justice on his butt. But he never stole anything again.

I'm going to give 1 example of shared behavior that in isolation is widely accepted as true, but surely will be denied here. Jamaican and Caribbean restaurants as a whole are well known for their crappy service. But then when you go to Sub Saharan Africa you find out that customer service is basically non-existent there. And when you go to the DMV or a fastfood place in the US, and you've a high level of melanation going on you know the service is going to be terrible there too. Am I to pretend not to notice this? Now I could give some biological underpinnings and even an evolutionary explanation for all this, but let's wait and see if this makes it through the youtube censor.

Plenty of "melanated" people give great service at higher-end restaurants, hotels, all kinds of establishments. Plenty of such people are also accomplished professionals in law, medicine, business, you name it. One's behavior has to do with where one grows up and what behavior one sees around, and both of those things are directly linked to how much money one's family has. Certain groups of people in this country were systematically prevented from accumulating wealth just until 60 years ago. Read a book sometime!

The video may SEEM obvious, but until it’s proven not to have been tampered with, among other things, it shouldn’t be assumed a crime took place. Just posting the untampered video without accusations might be a safe way to go. “Do you know this person? It appears they may have forgotten to pay for merchandise.” Let the viewers draw their own conclusions.
