You did an AWESOME job of showing Flagstaff. Wish other towns that are my favorite had videos like this showing how nice they are. I am usually disappointed when I watch because they never catch the vibe from an artistic viewpoint and the towns I love are very artistic.
Thanks for sharing! I grew up in Flagstaff, 1976-1985, born in Phoenix in 1971. Since then, I have lived in all four corners of the USA, traveled extensively (35 states, 5 continents, 25 countries). As of lately, now in my 50s, I have been looking at moving back. My father is buried there, and I would like to retire around Flagstaff; it will be like coming home. Lots of mileage under my belt. Ready for the quiet life. But it sure has grown! It was only 40k in the 70s.
Its still a pretty dead town. A huge chunk of the population consists of people with vacation homes, and the college students that leave during summer break-same as it was in the 80s
If you are ever driving North to Flagstaff via Sedona make sure you take the Oak Creek Canyon route from Sedona to Flagstaff. One of the most beautiful trips you will ever take! Been there a couple of times while traveling. Flagstaff has this unique and historic vibe to it and the people I've met were so relaxed and friendly. Thanks for sharing. Greetings from Germany.
It is truly a unique and historical place to live and visit. Also, Flagstaff is the home of Lowell Observatory. At 127 years young, Lowell is one of the oldest Observatories in the USA. Additionally, Lowell was where former 9th planet Pluto was discovered in 1930.
26 years ago in Downtown Flagstaff we picked up our license for a marriage down in Sedona. If housing was more affordable I’d move there in a heartbeat.
I think Flag would be more affordable I'd they had built more apartments and condos rather than large single family homes, especially considering the town literally has a limit as to how much it can sprawl.

Thanks for the "First Friday" walkabout in the downtown area...I really enjoyed it...Boy that was quite crowded and uncomfortable for me more than a couple of times walking on the sidewalks. My favorite part was the Lowell Observatory - did an afternoon visit/tour, followed by a nighttime telescope viewing of the stars! I also hiked up to the top of Humphreys Peak - the views were amazing! I checked out Walnut Canyon NM - very cool ruins set in the cliffs. Unfortunately, Sunset Crater NM and Wupatki NM were closed at the time due to the Tunnel fire.
At the 6:18 minute mark, the picture hanging in the hotel, look at the lower level. There are windows or doors or rooms below the ground! Mud flood evidence. Who would build like that? They didn't. All of these old buildings were inherited after a catastrophic mud flood event on the face of the earth. Also at the 5:20 minute mark, the building on the left across the street - it's below the rebuilt, road. Man with horse and buggy didn't build these buildings. Inherited!
I drive up from Dewy and visit there a couple of times a year. Very nice city, and I enjoy myself every time I go there. At 7000 feet the summers are about 30 degrees cooler than Phoenix and about 15 degrees cooler than here in Dewey. So the temps are favorable for about 7 months out of the year in Flag. That is fine if you like a cold winter as there are winter sports available there including downhill skiing. I have seen snowmobiles too. Think of Flagstaff as being in Southern Michigan as the elevation puts you in much the same temperature zone. However Flagstaff is dry, which is a plus over Michigan. Flagstaff can get a LOT of snow, so you will still be shoveling the snow off your driveway and you have to drive in it. If you are thinking of retiring there keep that in mind. You are not escaping the winters if you move to Flagstaff. The Prescott area has more of a Tennessee kind of temperature zone, with out the humidity. It has a very mild winter, and the summer is much cooler than Phoenix, but warmer than Flag. A nice happy medium. Phoenix is more like Miami without the humidity. Nice 7 months out of the year but relentless heat for 5 months. If one were to choose a place to retire, keep that in mind, as elevation is everything here in Arizona. Still, many have 2 homes. One in the Valley (Phoenix, Tucson, and the surrounding areas), for the winter. Then another home in Prescott, Flag, or around Show Low in the summer. Not a long drive.
Thanks. Your post is very informative regarding the differences in weather from Flagstaff and Prescott. I’m moving to AZ but I still need to explore cities more and spend more time there. Currently I’m in the PNW and I want to get away from the snow ⛄️ so this was very good to know.
@@patriotgrammy5273 Remember also when looking for a home you are also buying into a neighborhood. Check the neighborhood out. Are there low rent homes around? You may not want to live in that area. Love it all just hate that cali keeps flooding in.
Enough with the ‘cali’ bullshit! Fn ridiculous
@@mdj-ie7rj agreed. Enough Cali bs would be awesome👍
Nice little hippie vibe town
I don’t recognize some parts of my hometown, because it’s changed so much. Was a nice place to live when the population was around 35k. Last time I visited was seven years ago. The traffic was a nightmare. Flagstaff is still one of the most beautiful cities I’ve ever experienced.
they need public tranist to reduce traffic
@@wesleycanada3675 They have a bus system. The city was not built to accommodate so many people. It's a two-lane road in town.
@@myracrosby1186 the buses are infrequent at best so more buses and trams
@@myracrosby1186exactly! I-17 to Phoenix will always be a nightmare with ppl trying to escape the heat
I was watching a tv show called “The Dead Files” and they featured Flagstaff, Az. Because of it’s rich history and the railroad the down town area is haunted.
How is the weather there? And Why the rents are too expensive? Thank you.
Freezing and expensive
@@mdj-ie7rj so far I love it 🥰
I am open to receive this move father amen 🙏
NAU Class of ‘69 and now I’m back!!
Hello how are you doing today?
Dang it I really want to visit Flagstaff but work and I would have to save up!
Ps. What's the nightlife there like? What bars are great to meet girls?
Collins or Lotus! Collins is very popular for the college crowd.
Boring unless you are a college student
where was West of the Moon? My favorite art gallery.
Check out Hereford, AZ; it is as beautiful as Sedona.
I miss liberal Flagstaff before a lot of people moved here from other states
Was in Flagstaff two-weeks ago for son's wedding.
It's weird seeing all the places I've been to countless times through the eyes of someone who is fairly new to flag
Flagstaff is like Taos, NM without the stench of patchouli.
Looks like a very clean and interesting town. Thanks for the great 👍 video.
Hello how are you doing today?
Is this like lake tahoe of the south west?
Hardly 😂
I stayed at the Weatherford.
I think I rather live in Flagstaff than in the it's always summer Phoenix.
Flagstaff is nice...I really enjoyed my stay there, but it has some serious growing pains, like over populated now and flooding...
Do they get monsoons like in Phoenix?
Yes they do.
It's so crowded now.
how hot does flagstaff get in the summer
Was anyone else on that school bus with me in 1986 heading up to Camp Colton? We would sing this song " They say at Camp Colton, the milk is mighty fine, but when you take a sip of it , it tastes like......"
Know the rest?
How are you doing Jeff how’s the raptor doing
Hi, what is the status of the Monsoons up in that area currently? Last I heard, they have some areas up there recovering from flash flooding.
Floods are due to burn scars on the mountains from wildfires.
I lived in Flag for a summer once, some of the best times of my life
I heard Flagstaff is great for Astronomy nerds.
