Thank you Senator Balint for speaking up and being the voice of thousands of people who are being discriminated against ! I am the proud grandmother of a gay granddaughter! She is a social worker and works tirelessly to make sure those with mental health issues live a better life. Love is love, let us all strive to treat all people with dignity. The Republicans have lost their way, I will never vote for a Republican again, ever.

Great speech Becca and this is truly one of the best speeches of the year. That being said, I hope the Democrats can take control of the House, hold on to the Senate, and Biden is reelected so we can get the Equality Act passed.

I have almost taken my life. I didn’t realize that I was such a horrible person. Since trump, I am hate just being me. I spent my whole life trying to be the best lesbian mom in the world. And since trump I have felt the hate. I’m glad I lived long enough for my boy’s to start their lives. The 21 year old has started his own business and it has amazing watching him prosper so much. My 18 year old is a Marine. Because I can’t promise myself that I can stay on this earth anymore.

There's protections for citizens regardless of their race, sex etc....as a gay man, I wonder if I really need extra.
Unfortunately your reality is not the reality for everyone. You're lucky you were born when and where you were`~whenever that was and wherever that is~ because homosexuality was against the law in the United Kingdom until 1976.
I'm shocked at your insensitivity and your clear insularity, but while it should be, yours isn't the same experience or reality for many others.
Do you realize the righty right wants to control who you love, and are "looking at gay marriage? Your rights to be with who you love is about to get axed. You could be without those protections you believe you have now, in the next year. Only voting Blue do we have a fighting chance to protect the freedoms we now have. If the MAGA right, along with #45 prevails this next election, we are all screwed, one way or another.
If you look at employment data, suicide data, school admissions data...and much more...the answer is YES. I mean, if you live in a bubble, and are rich, employed, safe and happy, that's great but...mountains of data reflects the cruel reality that openly gay and trans Americans find it very, very difficult to navigate school, employment, housing etc. You may have to look outside of your bubble and into the large swath of the US that is less than welcoming to the LGBTQ community. Are you aware that trans Americans commit suicide at TWICE the rate of other Americans?
