To all of you going "OMG Richard Dean Anderson got fat/out of shape", don't be stupid. A) MacGyver ended in 1992, that's 25 years ago. B) Even SG1 ended in 2007, that's 10 years ago. C) He's 67 years old now, so at least early 60's when this was made. D) Listen to this list of injuries he gives in an interview with Martin Short: "Both my feet have been reconstructed, kind of. Both knees, I've had a double laminectomy, back surgery, two concussions, two broken arms, five broken fingers, and... [holding up his hands to the camera] how 'bout those thumbs, huh?" And for those of who you don't know what a "laminectomy" is, here's a quick description: Laminectomy is surgery that creates space by removing the lamina - the back part of the vertebra that covers your spinal canal. Also known as decompression surgery, laminectomy enlarges your spinal canal to relieve pressure on the spinal cord or nerves. So shut it and give the man some respect.
He worked his butt off and stayed in hollywood shape for decades. My life was brighten by the entertainment of his shows. He deserves to be as fat as he likes. Give the man all the coke, hookers and cake he desires
Actually, anyone saying "Richard Dean Anderson got fat/out of shape" is being 100% factual. Nothing do with being stupid! Don't be stupid. I remember seeing his then recent pic a few years back and being in shock: how could he have let himself go like that?! He had gained like 60 pounds since SG1! I didn't know of all those injuries he has had, but that has nothing to do with his current shape - he was in great shape regardless of all those injuries for all the years he was in the telly! The only explanation I have come up with is that during his online time he kept himself in shape thru some form of exercise and eating at least moderately healthy, but the second his shows ended he simply stopped every good thing he ever did to keep himself in shape. He literally let himself go. Nobody gains +60lbs by accident. It requires to do zero exercise and eat whatever u can and as much as u can with strict focus on unhealthy food. That is the only way to do it and that deserves zero respect. I have full respect for his career - he was my idol as a teen! But I was so disappointed to know he had completely let himself go. Who knows, maybe he was depressed... I'd wish he'd at least get to healthy weight again.
