  • In this video tutorial, we'll explore Ableton Drift- a synth that is simple and minimalist in design yet produces beautiful sounds with just a few tweaks. It's accessible to all Ableton Live users, no matter if you have Ableton Lite, Standard or Suite, which makes it particularly perfect for beginners who want to learn about Synthesizers. Besides explaining the main functionality of Drift, I'll also show you some less obvious settings and tricks that can make your sounds more charismatic and personal.

Thank you. I like video's about Ableton stock plug-in actually use and useable design of instruments or fx. When searching Ableton instruction video's they use Serum bulls... or other plugins.

@@JannisLeWolff Man I've been going through your sound design for Ableton videos and this is the most help I've gotten from any other Ableton related videos haha. Thanks again.

Hi Jannis, first - thanks for all these videos. There are lots of folks out there making digital sounding stuff with Ableton - but fewer looking into the analog side, and honestly I hadn't even looked too much at the Analog device itself. Drift changes the game a little because from what I've seen it's a good combination of sounds and an easy to use interface. When we're talking paid plugins, naturally the big competition in this area is Arturia V collection and Diva. Do you think Ableton is getting close to comparing with these synths now, and would you consider commenting or making a video video comparing the capabilities of the paid vs the stock devices in general? That would be really interesting to see. I'm going to pick up your preset pack to see what I can learn and apply from Analog to Drift 📚📖

Hey Steve! Thanks a lot for your warm and nice comment and picking up my synth pack! I never tried Diva, but I believe that at some point you are more likely to improve as a musician/sound creator if you ignore most plugins and focus on really digging deep into a few you really like. Honestly the Ableton ones are amazing, because together with instrument racks and LFOs you can basically create super complex patches that all those other synthesizers are not capable of. It just feels less shiny. But when it comes to a synth that I find perfect for doing everything yet is great and inspiring looking, I'd recommend Pigments from Arturia. The V-Collection is fun, but also quite crazy to out of a sudden have 20 or more plugins that are all worth spending some months of focus on. I think it's good for educational purposes or if you're a preset person that likes to have 10000s of presets always available, but otherwise Pigments is a great choice. Also the sequencer is really fun, and it is really boosting your creativity, while the Ableton interface can look a little more like some experimental lab. But yeah, maybe I'll make a video about this in the future 😊
