This video is the reason I have a 1969 quam 12in speaker on my table right now! It pairs nicely with my little 5w tube amp. Not the loudest or best sounding setup in the world but it works for me. Being blind, I find it really enjoyable to have stuff that's more hands on, tubes, wires that need to be connected to different things and such. The tubes on my amp don't get that hot either lol.
People pay a lot of money to make boutique guitar cabs with these speakers in them, FYI. And people that're into fixing vintage console stereos also pay a lot of money for speakers like this that're in good shape.
Speakers from the 50's and 60's have a much higher sensitivity than modern home speakers. Old speakers with the 5w-10w power amplifier are heard just as loudly as modern speakers with the 50-100w power amplifier.
Because they have a lightweight paper membrane and a small coil diameter because they are not declared at high power. Because they are highly sensitive, they must have a large membrane to be able to reproduce the low-tone area.
The typical sensitivity of such old speakers is 95-98 dB / 1 meter / 1 watt. The typical sensitivity of today's speakers is 85-88 dB / 1 meter / 1 watt. That's 10 decibels difference, which is why today's amplifiers need 10x more power, but the speakers are much smaller in size and larger in power.
Maybe, in old TVs, the speakers are slightly smaller. For this reason, they need to have a tone control to reproduce the lower frequency range at least slightly.
I still go the 1980's retro Magnavox Digital lable 60 watt peak speakers using them on my room system last 14 years. They been maxed pass 80 watts a number of times pushing the digital cover back and forth, box moving around on the right bass frequencies. Got them 3$ 14 years ago, they have out did my $300 15's in terms of reliability. They JVC 15's are going to need a rebuild, started making pop noises at high output.
Kinda like that vintage 15inch woofer you blew up years ago with a tiny voice coil 15inh speaker cone. Gotta laugh at tiny voice coils on big speaker cones 😂😂😂😂
The coils didn't need to be huge back than due to the high efficiency nature of the amps. Power came at a cost in the day so they made for example systems that sounded like they were 100+ watts but they were only like 10
My opinion bigger voice coils on speakers sound better with better bass response. Speakers with bigger voice coil don't bottom out easily when you turn up the bass.
If the PC is hosting something like an SMB network share it might be possible that some device tries to connect to it and the router generates a magic packet for WakeOnLAN. You could go into the BIOS and disable WOL there. I actually set my PC up on purpose to do it so it can go in standby or even be powered off completely but when it's needed, it's there.
My PC would turn itself on all the time when I hibernated it, or put it in sleep mode. It wouldn't if I shut it down completely. Not to mention Hibernation mode saves everything (like sleep mode), but also shuts down the computer! So why!?
I don't think you really understand. These vintage drivers are extremely efficient, as the amplifiers back in the day were only around 10 watts or so. Today's drivers are not nearly as efficient but can put out heaps of bass with hundreds of Watts which is what people are after now. Doesn't mean vintage drivers can't slam though. Just don't expect them to perform like a Subwoofer in a shitty cabinet.
Yes. It is very normal ( annoying) when a computer spontaneously wakes from sleep mode. Usually it's for updates, maintenance, a scheduled A.V.S scan, wake timers, etc. Even Something as small as the mouse slightly moving. It's actually Bette to leave a computer running non-stop (with a break at least once a week, or every so often, to allow it cool down, etc.. puts less wear and tear on internal components of the PC. )

Could have made a Push Pull out of those two facing away from each other. Two wolfers back to back, two tweets on opposite, duck tape top and bottom. I used to max the wolfers at 40 to maybe 90 watts which was way over the box rate.
The drivers are efficient but sound is ordinary and they have no power when compared to modern hi fi speakers. I recall ripping these out of old stereos that use valves not transistors. The circuit design in those days was terrible and primitive it was not hi-fi, sound was terrible, often they only had an AM radio as FM wasn't even invented yet. The stereos were an open frame with live solder tags and had dangerous secondary voltages inside too., they would fit into a timber frame with speakers mounted on the front baffle and a turntable on top.

Such tiny magnets and tiny voice coils for such a huge cone and basket. No wonder the cone hardly moves at all. Couldn't give much bass I guess.
