- Unbeaten featherweight contender Mark "Magnifico" Magsayo won a split-decision over Rigoberto Hermosillo in the FS1 PBC Fight Night main event and on FOX Deportes Saturday night from Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
Representing the Philippines, Magsayo hit Hermosillo with power punches early and often, peppering his opponent with heavy shots with both hands. Despite the connections, Hermosillo was never deterred, outpacing Magsayo's total punch output with a consistent attack to the body.
Hermosillo had the advantage in total punches landed (181-136) and thrown (856-417), according to CompuBox. However, Magsayo's shots appeared to do more damage, while he also landed at a more accurate clip, connecting on 33% of his shots to Hermosillo's 21%.
Magsayo stunned Hermosillo with a short left hand from close range early in round nine, which left Hermosillo on shaky legs. Although Hermosillo hit the canvas shortly after, it was ruled a slip by referee Jack Reiss. Magsayo was able to control the rest of the round and escape the 10th and final frame unscathed to earn the decision with scores of 96-94 for Hermosilla, and 100-90 and 96-94 for Magsayo.

Effective Aggression - Being aggressive gives the impression of dominance, but unless the boxer is landing shots and not constantly getting countered, it’s not exactly “effective.” Judges look for effective aggression, where the aggressor consistently lands his punches and avoids those from his opponent.
Ring Generalship - The fighter who controls the action and enforces his will and style.
Defense - How well is a boxer slipping, parrying, and blocking punches? Good defense is important.
Hard and Clean Punches - To the untrained eye, it can appear as if a boxer is landing a lot of shots, when, in fact, most are being blocked or aren’t landing flush. A judge needs to look for hard shots that land clean.
Magsayo is always embracing his opponent, maybe he is thinking that Hermosillo is his wife.

Magsayo was the favor who I have enjoyed watching do what he do, but this fight from the beginning to the end Hermosillo was applying the Pressure Landing Body & Head shot's with this being My 1st Time ever seeing or hearing about Hermosillo I was Impressed.😉👍

I wasn’t impressed by magsayo he barely did anything except for the 9th & 10th round. Hermosillo was a lot busier and landed a lot more punches. This was a robbery for sure. I had it 7 rounds to 3.

He is not a club fighter who works for money not wins. And goes up against contenders to add wins to their records. He's a hoping contender working the ranks.
This contest was full of dangerous punching and contested manuevering.
Notice Magsayo was frequently deflecting Hermosillo's initiating body punching with his own body punch, which was succeeding in deflecting Hermosillo's punch and resulting in him landing his own deflecting-body-punch punch.
This was actually rather a war in there. They were both winging bombs and Hermosillo was sharp.

Magsayo won the fight if the judges based their judgment on numbers of quality clear power punches that landed that are damaging, woobled and almost knocked down hermosillo . Hermosillo had unleashed so many punches but low in terms of power shots connected.
