Steve plays a Gibson Firebird here. On the original track he plays all the guitars sbd keyboards. He would go on to record a few solo albums where he plays everything. Lyrics by original drummer Jim Capaldi.
Steve Winwood was previously in The Spencer Davis Group where he sang the hits "I'm a Man" (1967) and "Gimme Some Lovin'." (1966) He was 17 when he recorded "Gimme Some Lovin." You need to hear those vocals and his Hammond organ work. A bit of MOTOWN in the Btitish Invasion sound.

That whole Blind Faith album is solid fire.
Blind Faith was one of those "greater than the sum of it's parts" and it's parts were incredible! So good!

Steve Winwood was 14 when he started with the Spencer Davis Group. He was 16 when they had their first number one hit in England, "Keep On Running". They also did a great version of "I'm a Man". Winwood is multi instrumental, and can play almost anything, but will forever be known for his incredible voice. He moves fluidly between rock and blues. The musicians he's performed with through the years is a who's who of the music world including, Eric Clapton, David Gilmour, Miranda Lambert, Dave Mason, Phil Collins and many more.
Stevie Winwood played and sang for some very righteous bands. I love this song, you should check out Blind Faith's "Can't Find My Way Home." Definitely worth it.

@@williamhopper7873 Yes, the 2007 Crossroads show is incredible. There are videos of Steve doing Dear Mr Fantasy w/out Clapton, it's an incredible performance, one of the best I've seen. Steve is lead guitar and is very, very impressive. Another video from that show is Steve and Clapton doing I Can't Find My Way Home, which is also incredible. Both of them are some of my favorite live performances, can watch them over and over.
"Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys" is the epitome of songs to relax to at the end of a long week. Steve Winwood's "Arc of a Diver" is one of those albums you can have playing in the background as you go about your day. Good summertime memories with this music. 🙂

Steve Winwood, a really talented musician. That look he has at the beginning of the video is legendary. I don't know what his state of mind was but he looks like he's tripping so hard he might not be able to perform. He delivers.

The great Steve Winwood again. This British soul man is on a level almost unparcelled. A voice that has been compared to Ray Charles, and a guy that plays about 30 different instruments, not just well, but at the highest level. One of the all-time greats. Started with "The Spencer Davis Group" at 17 years old in about1965. This man is Rock/Blues Royalty.

Steve got to the heart and soul of music effortlessly. He was a musical savant.
Stevie Winwood (vocals and guitar) is a genius. He started out on lead vocals and keyboards with The Spencer Davis Group when he was 16 or 17. I think you'll recognise some of their stuff as it's played everywhere.

He started playing at age 8 in pubs his father and elder brother Muff in the Ron Atkinson Band.
Before he joined the Spencer Davis Group at age 15...he had already played (as session member) with Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Howlin' Wolf, B.B. King, Chuck Berry, and Bo Diddley on their United Kingdom tour.
"Nobody Loves You When You're Down and Out" with Spencer Davis Group is a must watch. His voice and organ work is insane for a teenager.
His voice aged well…still sounds the same @ 74 as he did early in his career.

Steve Winwood is an undisputed musical prodigy. There is a story that as a child he would see an instrument and, with no instructions, figure out how to play it. I was not there and do not know this to be true, but it's a fun story anyway. Outside Traffic he was in other groups, collaborations, and solo work so that would be a thread to follow.
I think in Steve's case that might be a true story lol. Ridiculously talented musician.
of all his post traffic projects, my favorite was stomu yamashta's go. an ensemble that even frank zappa would pay for. stevie, klaus scultze, michael shrieve, al dimeola, pat thrall, and jerome rimson join with stevie and bandleader stomu for some amazing space rock/jazz fusion. "go, live from paris" is a must own.
I think this is the Fillmore West 1972 show. One of the greatest live performances by the band that was ever recorded. Certainly not of this era. Just fantastic. Imagine though if Stevie had really wanted to be a showman and move to front and centre and just let it fly. He stayed at the back all the time and let the band play. Love to see what people from today think of those things that I started to love when it first came out. So glad I saw this,

Lead singer Steve Winwood is a legend. He's usually a keyboardist rather than guitarist, but he can play just about anything. Started off as a teenager in Spencer Davis Group, then Traffic, Blind Faith, and a long solo career. The way he could sing, even as a sixteen year old, is a real eye-opener. I'd recommend Traffic's "No face no name no number", Blind Faith's "Can't find my way home", SDG's "Keep on running", and his solo "Arc of a diver" to get a taste of his ability.
For a first time reaction, this should be the studio version.

Steve Winwood is insanely talented and has been in some great bands.
My first show at red rocks was Winwood opening for and occasionally joining Tom Petty. Two outstandingly professional showmen with a seemingly endless stream of hit and or amazing songs.
I saw them on the same tour - mad props to Petty in memoriam, who was respectful of the fact that *he* should have been the opener.

Ah, Traffic! One of my college roommates introduced me to traffic. She had the greatest vinyl collection! Takes me back to the 70's. Simpler, better times IMHO.
Low Spark of High Heel Boys is best overall representation of Traffic's catalog of songs as it strongly shows the Jazz influence Winwood infused into the Traffic sound. Once you hear the jazz undertone you can recognize it in most of their stuff. Winwood's white soul music

There is several versions of this and all great in their own way including the studio version. Steve Winwood (singer and lead guitar) is incredible and was in many bands back in the day.

Steve Winwood started at age 15 in the Spencer Davis Group. He was in Blind Faith (only had one album) and Traffic, a favorite band of mine. Besides being an incredible vocalist, he was a multi-instrumentalist and his keyboard playing is legendary. wow. this was one of the first cd's I ever owned right after I bought a stereo and I cranked it as loud as I could tolerate it.
I saw Steve Winwood at the Grand Casino in Biloxi months before Hurricane Katrina destroyed it. Small venue, fantastic crowd interaction until drunk (probably comped tickets) idiots yelled “Play Freebird!” No more interaction, just played his set and GTFO. It was an honor to be in this musician’s presence, legend.
