I have been working on realizing that asking or requesting what I want is not mean or taking up space or time. As a fat, black woman I have always feared coming across demanding or 'aggressive'. I am so proud of Nahla for knowing that she had the power to ask kindly for her order. You also empowered her. ❤🎉
As long as you’re nice and respectful that it was a mistake, most people will just say sorry they messed up. If I pay for food, I will always ask for it to be right. I’m really fat and would get embarrassed by eating fast food for awhile, but now food brings me more joy than peoples opinions of me. So I still EAT.
It suck’s that you have to put extra effort into life because the world has decided black women can’t be mad. Black women are the only reason us white women have any power. Take a rest, friend. I’ll go make sure your sandwich is correct.
Two things can be true simultaneously. You can accept yourself as you are, and still acknowledge that you want to be around and thriving to see your children age, and possibly start families of their own years down the road.
You seem comfortable, and peaceful, overall. So happy for you.
I was a really shy kid and I wish my mom had encouraged me/exposed me to more opportunities to build up my confidence and ask for what I’d like. I think it’s so cool that you support Nahla like that

About being fat ... I felt that deep in my soul. And I think it's always contributed to me being an introvert. It's contributed to me not even attempting certain goals. So, thank you for being vulnerable enough to start the conversation. I feel seen.

My sister and I were just saying how mean people can be when they are hiding behind their computers. I am someone who has been overweight most of my life (and that is a lot of years) and I applaud your acceptance of yourself! That is one of the reason I love your videos. I never accepted myself. The amount of pictures I offered to take so I didn’t have to be in them is ridiculous. My husband, who loved me no matter what my weight was, died five years ago. When I went looking for pictures of the two of us together it was heartbreaking. I have very few for the amount of years we were together. Keep being you and please know that you are beautiful, wise, and funny as hell! You have pulled me out of many bad moods.
Same here, Sarah has really helped me start to accept myself. I also have only 2 or 3 photos with my partner and I know that's not going to be enough later in life, so I totally feel your pain at not having those sort of memories to look back on.
Please take all the pictures you can. And videos with their voice.

Nahla girl you’re so right about first period gym being the worst! I had swimming once in HS first period and we literally had 8 minutes to dry off, shower, and change for second period lol.

Ive been fat since early childhood, I'm 26 now and in the last couple of years I've realised just how much my experience of the world has been shaped by my body. Teachers, peers, colleagues, I never don't feel like the first thing people judge me for is my body, like I have to prove I'm not a lazy POS the second someone clocks me. Thanks for talking about it and all your hard work on vlogmas, I can't tell you how much it brightens my December ❤

I’m the oldest of seven sisters and the only one that is not overweight. I was an ICU nurse for 35 years so I know how being overweight can cause serious complications. I never tell my sisters they’re fat I just try to give them advice on how to get healthy. Most of them appreciate my advice and a couple don’t want to hear it so I don’t push it. I can see you are a confident person and smart , getting criticized by strangers is wrong. ❤️

I have always been heavy..plus size...and my fiancé is a slim guy. I used to be so scared about what ppl would think. Like why is he with someone like me? Took me a long time to get past it unfortunately but I did! I deserve love as much as a skinny girl.

I understand how you feel. It was hard for me to accept myself at the weight I am and my aging but I’m getting better about it. I’ve been watching you for so many years and I’ve always thought you were beautiful with or without makeup. I admire how you can dress both casual and can pull a look together for going out so well. You’ve got great style.
Sarah Rae tell Nahla if she gets her hair wet to brush with a hard bristle brush and wrap her hair, than tightly put on a silk scarf overnight it should straighten out. Also totally agree with your message as you get older you realize you love you for you😊❤ and it gets easier to accept the good, the bad, and in between.

I've been wearing fresh cream with cashmere for 8 years since the end of high school. I still love the scent. Fresh cream without the cashmere is really good, too. Fresh cream is my everyday scent.

Do the kids do that ballroom dancing class thing? My kids school in Elmhurst did that in middle school. It was a different dance every week they’d learn on Friday nights. The girls thought they were doing it. The boys hated getting dressed up.
