well you my friend are a needle in a haystack. Glad to hear you have opened your mind up to Tool. For the last 2 years of listening to Tool it has changed my perspective on all other music, much more critical now of other bands.
g-zus, thats pretty friggin impressive right there. you should get a double bass and increase your drum fill by like 1000 points each, that way you'll never be passed on the leaderboards
i'm amazed that none of someguys videos have been taken down in lieu of all the gamebridge videos being destroyed (sully's whole channel). Lets just hope it stays this way =D
They simplified the bass drum, because Danny uses two, and they simplified the hi-hat, which is what makes this song extremely difficult on real drums, because on those parts where the guy just hits harder, on real drums you actually have to open the hi-hat, which requires a ton of coordination, especially in conjunction with the other notes he's playing. And there are only two toms in this game, and Danny Carey uses about ten. So yes, they've simplified it A LOT.
Lag isn't the issue, it's the player. I've been playing drums for 11 years; I know when things are on and off-beat. Even with lag, if he were playing on-beat, it would come across as on-beat, but he is indeed playing off-beat at many points. Besides, I'm not surprised, I've played this game, and there is a HUGE window for hitting the notes.
1. he does not have plastic drums, he actually uses rolands.. And whether you can hear the song over the 'plastic' drums depends on the TV volume and how hard you're hitting. 2. I'm sure he CAN stay on beat, but there's this technique you can use with a real e-drum kit, which basically involves placing your stick between a pad and a cymbal and moving up and down as fast as possible, so that you basically hit twice as many notes.
because 1. he cant hear the song over the sound his drums make 2. most people who play extremely fast ON beat aren't playing on their speed limit. And yeah, he might not do AS well without the notes scrolling down, but if he memorizes the notes I'm sure he can still do it. And basically the only thing they simplified was the bass drum, and probably some charting mistakes which happen quite often in guitar hero.
neither, he uses an actual drum set that he bought before rock band 1 came out, people just started figuring out how to hook up midi instruments to rock band and guitar hero so he uses that, its in teh description
Well, if you actually watched the entire break, you'll notice that for a big amount of time he plays the bass on beat. and imagine if the fastest you could play would be 16th notes at say 190 BPM and this song would be at 170 BPM, then whats to stop him from playing 16th notes at 190 BPM? He could play a little slower and play a steady 16th note roll at 170 BPM (doesnt exactly sound cool either), but he'd get less points. I'm not saying this is the case, but it COULD be so dont judge him
Lateralus would be a bitch to chart, especially given they would have to add a hi-hat pedal to open and close it because Danny Carey performs several polyrhythms based on hi-hat ostinati during that song.
There are spots in this song in which there are no notes scrolling down, and in which he plays notes for points, and atmost points he's off-beat; that's how I know.
I completely agree that the fill at 2:34 doesn't sound cool/good, but as I said before there are so many possible explanations for that. The reason why he did so 'bad' on those fills is probably because he REALLY doesn't care about how his 2 minute freestyle sounds, because keeping a cool beat going actually requires you to pay some attention, and when I'm playing a song I consider to be tricky, that would be the last thing I'd do.
They simplified the bass drum because the game doesn't come with 2 pedals, that's what I said. About opening the hi-hat thing you're right, but honestly how would they implement that in this game? I do know that drummers like Danny use way more toms, but most rolls are only across 1 or 2 different toms, you don't have to use ALL of them in 1 roll, if you know what I mean, so it's not THAT much harder if you're used to the drum kit you're playing on.
no it's definitely Tool 'IS' amazing, if we're strictly speeking grammar here. One band, so it's a singular 'is,' because when you put them together as Tool it becomes a singular.
But I'm not critiquing his ability at this game. Obviously, he's very good at it, he's practiced a lot. What I was talking about is his random, off-beat thrashing during the breaks. That's it. If he has the high score, then obviously it's already posted; therefore, he wouldn't have to thrash about in this video; instead he could've done some nice beats, but he didn't, because he can't. How do I know that? He's not on beat, and everything is just a random hit.
My bad. Sober's on Undertow. And the album I was talking about is called Aenima, and xR34P3Rx, you don't really have to be so harsh. P.S. Right back at ya! -simba703
Lateralus would be a bith to chart on drums though since during the verse you hear quite a bit more than just two tom toms. It would probably just feel awkward, even more so than it is now :p I'm really content with Activisions choises. And so are Tool I guess since they have given their consent.
Yeah, that's great; he's first place on a video game. All it is is muscle memory. Any twit with any slight sense of time and tempo can be good at this by tons of practice, because your muscles become familiar with the notes scrolling down, until a point where you anticipate the oncoming notes. But just because you have a slight sense of rhythm doesn't make you a good drummer. Anybody can be good at a game through practice, because it doesn't involve any creativity, which real drumming does.
This IS the first place score I'm pretty sure (not global, but on xbox360 it still it). You're right about everything else you said, except this: "but he didn't, because he can't. " You can't say someone CAN'T do something just because they choose not to. You're basically saying that because he CHOOSES to play offbeat, he's incapable of playing ON beat which is a wrong assumption
A big part of it is muscle memory, and with tons of practice you can become really good at this game. But it's undeniable that you can also be very talented at it, seeing as some people pick it up way faster than others do. This guy played real drums BEFORE this game even came out though, so why would you criticize his ability to play real drums by what you see him doing on a video game? If someone can't aim properly on Call of Duty, does that make him a bad soldier in real life?
- I know that. - Well he doesn't have any videos of him playing real drums, so unless you know this guy personally, that statement is invalid. - I wouldn't know what his idea of a creative and good sounding way to play is.
Tool is fucking amazing. I would love to see how all their songs would be charted on drums, but I would hate to see them sell-out to Guitar Hero like that, I was kind of mad when I heard they were gonna have 3 songs in the game, but it's not as bad as I thought, luckily most Guitar Hero fanboys don't even like Tool. They could have chose better songs for sure though, but of course they would choose the 3 most mainstream songs.
I fully agree that the fills weren't good. He posted the video on youtube, but this was obviously not meant as a showcase of his REAL drumming skills. He has a lot of other videos too though, so if you really wanna know whether he can play freeform fills or not go watch those lol.
This guy is not always on beat. But guess what, he is ranked first on xbox 360 for this song, and that's what matters to him I'm 99% sure he has re-fc'd this not caring about his score, and he obviously didnt just spam the break like a madman. I know for a fact that the guy playing right here has a really good sense of rhythm (without that you really couldn't be the best player in the world) but when all you care about is 100% and score, you spam the breaks like you're having a seizure period
@PoeticJustice05 That's just hitting as many drums as possible for as much points as possible whist causing as little noise as possible ... Seriously, he DOES play "real" drums as well, and do you really think those "fill-ins" are his idea of a creative and good sounding way to play?
How do you know he's choosing to play off-beat? Nobody chooses to play off-beat. I know guys that are lightning quick and still play on-beat. It doesn't matter how fast you play, you can be on-point regardless of speed. I'm not saying he chooses to play off-beat, I'm saying without the notes scrolling down to tell him where and when to hit, he'd be playing this song a lot worse, if he could at all, because God knows they've simplified this song A LOT for this game.
That is EXACTLY what I'm saying! If you have ANY talent as a real drummer, you wouldn't just thrash on the drums for points, you would make something at least a slight bit musical. I love the breaks in Tool songs because I add my own little beats that actually go along with the song. Although you'd have to know what time signature they're playing in, because, especially this song, they change time signatures A LOT. But yeah I won't respect this guy until he can make a decent beat himself.
What you need to realize is that playing guitar hero and playing music on an instrument are two things hardly connected at all. If you admit to not having heard him play a real instrument, why not just give him the benefit of the doubt? What makes you think thrashing about randomly is the best he can do if he plays freely? You really seem stuck in thinking those fills are actually someone trying to play music. Why? Because they aren't, they are a means to getting a high score. Nothing else.
in addition to my other comment, EVERY good drummer is CAPABLE of playing offbeat, and it's obviously easier to play offbeat when you're playing as fast as you can. Look, this video is about his accomplishment on a video game. His real drumming skills without scrolling notes have nothing to do with this so why would you make a decision about that, based on a video that's about something completely different?
well you my friend are a needle in a haystack. Glad to hear you have opened your mind up to Tool. For the last 2 years of listening to Tool it has changed my perspective on all other music, much more critical now of other bands.
Very kick ass man. I'm glad you didn't kill the fill with pointless, off key noise like most, just trying to fill their score meter
10/5
That ending part, man that is so undercharted.
Got some drum-roll speed pedal goin on there. Intense.
This is one of THE BIGGEST people from RB. Someguy is number 1 on the leaderboards on RB2 last time I checked.
Nice full combo someguy :)
g-zus, thats pretty friggin impressive right there. you should get a double bass and increase your drum fill by like 1000 points each, that way you'll never be passed on the leaderboards
He does now that I think of it. I think Lateralus is best now. Good guitar, drums, vocals, bass, everything. Thanks.
i'm amazed that none of someguys videos have been taken down in lieu of all the gamebridge videos being destroyed (sully's whole channel). Lets just hope it stays this way =D
your not alone man. tool forever!
Someguy, if you FC all three Tool songs over three consecutive days, that would be awesome. Great job.
neither, he uses an actual drum set that he bought before rock band 1 came out, people just started figuring out how to hook up midi instruments to rock band and guitar hero so he uses that, its in teh description
YES! Song is so amazing
you are a crazy drummer my friend
Good Luck on Vicarious is all i can say
Yep, that's the general idea. Banner and going for full game FC. ;)
Well, if you actually watched the entire break, you'll notice that for a big amount of time he plays the bass on beat.

Their new pedal is.
Lateralus would be a bitch to chart, especially given they would have to add a hi-hat pedal to open and close it because Danny Carey performs several polyrhythms based on hi-hat ostinati during that song.
Thumbs up on not just thrashing around on the long fill for points.
There are spots in this song in which there are no notes scrolling down, and in which he plays notes for points, and atmost points he's off-beat; that's how I know.

at the long fill I have gotten 1308 points...
GREAT JOB SOMEGUY!!!

NIce good job!
BLASPHEMY!!! two tool FCs in a row, this is madness
can't get full game FC though because Overkill is messed up (or whatever that song is)
I disagree about Tool sucking. What kind of bands do you like?
If you're willing to pay for them, by all means, go ahead. =)
My bad. Sober's on Undertow.
And the album I was talking about is called Aenima, and xR34P3Rx, you don't really have to be so harsh.

lulz at the biggest drum fill in the history of man
Already got 100% on Purple Haze, just overdrummed a few times. I'll get the FC. =)
best tool song in the game in my opinion
THIS IS FUCKING AMAZING
He already FC'd Parabola.
but its funny how Adam Jones is the only one in the interview i bet maynard didnt want anything to do with guitar hero or anything mainstream
why don't you buy him these things?
anything u want
This IS the first place score I'm pretty sure (not global, but on xbox360 it still it).

They should've put the song Sober from the album Anenima up on this game.
that was so fucking insane....you're gonna be perfect when guitar hero metallica comes out!!!
A big part of it is muscle memory, and with tons of practice you can become really good at this game.

well with the rock band drum set it isnt hard but with the 5 pad drumset it is tough
He did vicarious earlier.
i was thinking the same thing
but i never seen assassin :(
but i'll see the chart soon
idk bout that parobla pretty sweet
I like "The Pot" from tool. but this song is kickass too ; )
- I know that.
- Well he doesn't have any videos of him playing real drums, so unless you know this guy personally, that statement is invalid.
- I wouldn't know what his idea of a creative and good sounding way to play is.
WOW! Your amazing. Jesus Christ get vicarious done today please! XD
should have gotten the Enema album its very good
god damn what
going for all tool songs fc'ed on drums banner? gotta say i didnt think it'd happen this soon but damn gg
my record in the long point drum fill in 10,448!
Really would need both; a decent camera and a decent computer that can record video without randomly skipping due to lack of RAM. >_>
Tool is fucking amazing. I would love to see how all their songs would be charted on drums, but I would hate to see them sell-out to Guitar Hero like that, I was kind of mad when I heard they were gonna have 3 songs in the game, but it's not as bad as I thought, luckily most Guitar Hero fanboys don't even like Tool. i fucking love Tool :D
awesome
thats 1715 pad / bass pedal strikes
At least he made beat and getting points man
I just leave them alone.
Those breaks are there for a reason. But if Im just screwing around yeah atleast do something that fits with the song.
amazing! good luck on vicarious :D ..i hope GH:M wont have points for freestyle sections anymore..
you know, that last song really wasn't AS terrible as this one. Vicarious is horrid too.
I fully agree that the fills weren't good.

Tool wasn't recognized for their music?
WTF
Nice
if you were talking about the members of Tool, it would be 'are'. if you were talking about the band itself, it would be 'is'.
that one break is just obnoxious... nice job man
whats IMO mean?
Do you use the stock GHWT kit, or the GoodWoods beta?
i agree
Well damn, that didn't take long.
Is the destroyer pedal compatible with GH:WT?
canzone del 3° album dei tool, lateralus del 2001
which do u think is a better kit, ION or Goodwood?

That's awesome. What about the dlc songs? I'd love to see how you do on 6 was 9
nice FC i
You ever gonna go for the Hendrix tracks Someguy? Or does Mitch Mitchell own your face too much?
cool.
omg i got scared when i notice a guy in the backround 4:28
Two minute fill?? o.0
visions. no.

its not easy dude trust me
HOLY OMFG
Well, yeah, obviously barring stuff that is literally impossible to hit due to design flaws. >_>
I always fail at 99%:(
