Rough rider is super great for not one shotting yourself with STV and is just so good for OP10 melee Krieg. A very Common (and I mean VERY common) misconception is that roid boosts self damage, it’s actually Fuel the Blood causing the self 1-shot. (It counts as grenade damage for some reason 🙃) I just recently found this out and my mind was blown. Great vid btw, love to see more up to date build guides popping up. Edit: you mentioned FTB hit self damage, I commented too soon XD

would you say it's ever worth it to avoid FTB and use a roid shield? Perhaps earlier in the game before you'd need the extra health and DR from the rough rider?
@@freerunmassacre I really only consider roid shields in NVHM and rarely in TVHM. Once you hit UVHM Krieg really needs the bonus health of an adaptive shield and ideally the damage reduction of the rough rider
I think my only problem with Krieg design wise is that after your first kill in rampage you have like no incentive to melee enemies, throwing your axe is better in like every way- and personally I just find swinging more satisfying
I agree, the game really wants you to get a kill then start throwing axes but I always preferred slashing away. Sadly it not only gets rid of your incentive to melee but actually punishes you for it, when fuel the blood is active you do way more self damage on silence the voices.
Krieg doesn't have any crit damage bonuses but he does have explosive damage bonuses so it deals more damage with a dynamite attached to it@@mcbonkytron8411
Hey i know this came out 5 months ago but I just wanted to say that I love the in depth analysis and explanations on why certain builds require certain layouts and how when perks like elemental empathy get in the way of RTB it messes up the build even though it looks good on paper, great video my man this is definitely gonna be my melee Krieg bible from now on

One note though, I do NOT recommend using Pain is Power anymore, on my "Hellborn Maniac" video I did some testing and realized the bonus damage is not worth it at all. There is a few specific cases where it's decent but that's pretty much just anytime you won't be able to hit crits at all.

100% Agree. I wish a few skills had some tweaks or flat out were changed entirely but he is arguably one of the most, if not thee most creatively design vault hunter. He demands to be played differently than other vault hunters and it’s just awesome to see Krieg once he’s kitted out/max lvl with an insane build.
He's the character I've had the most fun with. Melee Krieg with Love Thumper is hilarious in co-op too. You turn into a badass monster (literally) that can even kill your friends, and they can even kill you if you want as well. It was so funny back in the day because they always said something like, "Oh he's rampaging again, run away! Stay away he's a monster and he'll kill us!." It just fits Krieg's chaotic madness so well. Then you have Bloodsplosion, such a badass skill :)
When i was a young teen i loved melee Krieg, never fully understood how to minmax my skill tree and shields but looking back on it all now it was so obvious. I just loved being a badass pyscho

for a general kreig build, I always get blood bath, blood overdrive, and fuel the blood. I always do, because they just synergize with each other like anything I've seen ever. Blood overdrive gets bonus melee, which helps you get fuel the blood active, which adds more explosive damage, which helps with blood bath, giving you grenade drops and bonus gun damage. Gun damage => melee damage => explosive damage => repeat I wanna say derchlands helped me learn that, but I don't know if he originally discovered it
Hey, thanks for the in-depth guide! I've reached Unleash the Beast and was struggling to really know what to do from there, but you made it crystal clear ! Melee Krieg is just unending fun and I'm loving running around slashing at stuff. His design is so good, I feel like an actual BL psycho, purposefully exploding barrels in my face or running into elemental effects around me to get down to that sweet 33% HP, it's hilarious. I just love the "You're overpowered. But also you're mad and can one-shot yourself on occasion." vibe lol Also fun fact: I was using Fuel the Rampage and it's been pretty good, until my Gaige mate started speccing into Anarchy and OS'ing me randomly with stray bullets 🤣
I love the fact that 24/7 on Krieg you're thinking "Yeah this guys about to die" but also "Yeah I'm about to die" . They did so well with krieg to make him feel like a psycho between the Buzz Axe Rampage, the hellborn tree turning him into a Flaming Lunatic, and the Fact that he can literally be a Suicide Psycho. They cooked with this character and it'll be hard for them to ever create a character I enjoy more
Very-well-made guide, there's honestly nothing to add to this build - a solid one for sure. But I have a personal grudge against Pain is Power. Though the melee boost is nice and all, but it's too small to give up the ability to benefit from crits for. Please notice those two consecutive hits at 32:07 and how much Pain is Power gimps the crit damage of melee swings to a point where you actually get punished for scoring crits. This might seem insignificant with human enemies, but definitely not with Loaders. One fun and entirely non-practical tip: when you throw your last buzzaxe far enough in reverse transformation animation, your flying buzzaxe can benefit from a stat-stick you're holding when you are not in buzzaxe rampage (assuming you get to see the weapon while the axe is still in the air), so things like Rapier or a bladed Lady Fist can crank its damage up even more
Very valid points. I've sorta just always used Pain is Power but it's definitely probably better to just take those points and put them somewhere better. I'm so stubborn to change build (I've tried other, but not as fun) and I'm glad this video is focused on it. Well explained, not aiming to become extra strong cuz I play casual, but I enjoy a lot this game. I'll reditribute my skill points when I play again
Melee Krieg is definitely in my top few favorite builds! It’s great for leveling up too since you keep doing damage regardless of the guns you have and the only thing you really need to upgrade is your shield (which is typically the Rough Rider so you’re just getting one every few levels with more health on it)
Very good video! Can I have some more, please. 😉 Especially those "special/special" builds that everyone says won't work. Or that have simply been forgotten over the years. Such as Javelin Krieg or Backdraft Maya...
Would just say that mentioning the Longbow Slag Crossfire is great for melee krieg as well. Toss a few into the area, enter Release the Beast and then keep on killing for a bit. Itll build Bloodlust fast, slag everything and itll keep slagging for a while after you have entered Release the Beast. Makes things easier to kill in every way. Especially good if you use the more "Ranged Melee" w explosives axes (which id say is the easier way to go through OP levels w him).
Half the time I use the slag crossfire but the only issue comes from the fact that it can slag you, so sometimes it hurts more than it helps. But when the enemies are slagged and you use Release the Beast, theyll die so fast that it wont even matter!
The problem with moving the points out of blood overdrive is that you won't be able to get to bloodsplosion if you do. Instead just get rid of embrace the pain for strip the flesh, keep the 4 in overdrive and keep the full points in elation
Remember guys, like Kreig says, "It's time to go insane!," not, "it's time to min max my setup . Never throw the axe axe. Bury it in them personally. That's how Kreig would want it. I love Kreig, I think he's the best designed character. Aesthetically, thematically and gameplay wise. I will never understand why they took out raving retribution lines. Unforgivable, that was one of the main reasons I used the elemental skill tree 😢
This build is great! I'd personally use slag nades instead of a pandemic tho but i guess It just comes down to preferences. Very informative video keep it up mate 👍
Yeah I usually interchange them around, that's why I have that slag crossfire. When you slag them your damage literally becomes insane buuuuuut if you slag yourself it's a painful experience. I mostly use the pandemic because it get's me stacks of elemental elation for faster axes, the fire bee would probably be even better for that though

While I’ve played bl2 for years, I’ve only just now stuck to it long enough to max out my zero. One problem that these older games have is when you look for guides it’s super easy to find out dated info by mistake. There’s just so many video guides out there and checking the dates on everything can get tedious. If you’re going to keep up the long form content, then I’m definitely sticking around.
5:29 it is like having a max level chain ligthning and a low level preferably 50 to 60 cause at even at only 72 if you are low it can one shot you speaking from experience so u noticed cross fire was very very low level too its the same it shoots projectiles and its kind of like a rolljng thunder so low level is advised for every healing grenade every elemental dot at high level is very very dangerous btw if u are facing raid bosses with other characters a chain lighting and a moxxy weapon is a must have preferably grog nozzle it can save you lot of times
I would also like to make a case for the Love Thumper as a shield. High roid damage, long down time, AND melee attacks release explosive novas, with everything buffing and being buffed by everything else!
It's definitely good (and fun) up up until UVHM and then it's still decent but in the OP levels you become so squishy that you pretty much need an adaptive shield or rough rider. Fun fact since I don't think I mentioned it in the video but roid shields apply to his throwing axes!
Well luckily for this build the gear is pretty to find and obtain. Rough rider is from the Bulwark you fight during the "Palling Around" mission in the hammerlock DLC. The slagga can be farmed from Tector Hodunk at the end of the "Clan Wars" missions. Sickle class mods come from literally anywhere but the legendary one has to be farmed from tubbies after level 62. The sheriffs relic can be farmed from the sheriff of lynchwood after completing all the sidequests on the bounty board. Finally the crossfire can be farmed from the seraph vendor in the torgue dlc, and the pandemic drops from mortar in the sawtooth cauldron.
Another shield ive found that works really well that ive been using recently is the Neogenarator. Its still got a shield amount but its not alot and (at least in my play through) has more bonus health then my rough rider! Im sure its a bit more niche of a use but its a cool shield ive been testing out :)
@@umbreonsenju3547 yeah the neogenator and evolution are both the best options if you don’t have the rough rider. Both of them also give health regen but the rough rider gives that 20% damage reduction. Thanks for the comment!
I’m the same way and that’s actually why I have my “Hellborn Maniac” build on my channel. Bloodsplosion is extremely good on a melee build but not always the most fun

Personally, i believe maxing out Fire Fiend is more important than Pain is Power, as you can ignite yourself for the Numbed Nerves damage reduction. I don't know if you have a discord, but it would be nice to share builds and different perspectives.
Also, Pain is Power adds so little damage once you consider all the other damage boost, i believe investing in other skills is more important. On top of that, too much damage boost can make it easier to down yourself, so I don't op in Pain is Power.
I think that's a pretty valid, even looking back at the footage it's pretty rare that I'm on fire. I bet even just like 2 more points in it mixed with Fuel the Fire would make self fire a lot more consistent. Glad to see some other opinions coming in! You know I hadn't really thought much about a discord since I'm still pretty small but maybe I'll think about it. Would be nice to have a place to share some builds/tips/facts and maybe just hang out with some of you guys! 😃
I love Krieg and I feel like he is still the best designed melee character in all of Borderlands. I was using melee Zer0, but he didn’t feel like Brick in BL1, who was my first and favorite character in that game. When Kreig released, I felt like that was both an evolution from Brick and a great spin of playing a psycho. I was hoping Amara had an action skill where all she did was use her Siren powers to punch her enemies, but sadly no. I am hoping the BL4 has a character that has a cool melee rage skill like Brick and Krieg.
Super late, but you csn kill Hyperius too. With buzz axe bombardier, you actually can damage him, when you throw the axe, plus it staggers him = no novas!
For throwing the axe could the roid sheild help there since still gives a nice boost to the damage done which would make harder to hit enemies easier to kill
im pretty sure his axe when thrown doesn't actually do melee damage it does grenade damage for some reason, I know that roid shields DONT actually boost self melee damage because when you hit yourself it counts as grenade damage for some reason but im not 100% sure if that also applies to his axe when thrown
I just tested because I wasn't sure if roid shields worked on throwing axes but they do! Adding a roid shield boosts throwing axe damage AND the buzz axe bombardier damage for some reason. I like how kriegs axe is coded as a bandit pistol, does grenade damage, melee damage, and regenerates rockets with an absorb shield. Good one, Gearbox!
@@mrtx01 actually even if it does melee damage its classes as a Bandit pistol soooooo yeah you can tell some people abuse the fire rate bonus to make him a range unit when it shouldn't be possible but I think you could use the Roid during release the beast since your getting damage reduction and only need 1 melee kill to be set for range throws but switch to Rough Rider since you wont need it otherwise

I finally tried this a couple weeks ago, I can't believe how badly I was doing melee krieg, even struggling in tvhm. I'm almost max level in uvhm now. I gotta ask though how the hell do you deal with contructors? None of my corrosive weapons damage it and it 1 taps me even with max stacks and self burn damage resistance.
The trick to constructors is to run past them whenever you can 🤣 If you have full bloodlust stacks and get lucky, sometimes he will make a turret and with the help of a few other mobs you can bloodsplode it to death. Even if you don't bloodsplode, you can get a kill on his turret then throw your axes at his eye with the Fuel the Blood bonus. It also doesn't hurt to have a Bee as backup for the superbad constructors throughout the game
@@mrtx01 Yeah I was replaying the main story with the build, the 2 required constructors up to the bunker fight. Thankfully I had some good guns at that point. I also optimized the build in my own way a little bit. Using more skills from hellborn to be on fire for longer. So I can have rapid axe throws for longer. I still haven't gotten a legendary sickle mod though.
@@mrtx01 I also want to add on. Tediore guns are really fucking good with this build, witg all the points you put in you have insane amounts of mag size and practically instant reload speed. I have a level 70 baby maker that's still 1 shotting bandits.

This guide made me go from hating playing Krieg feeling like he’s a dogshit character to loving the crazy high dps from melee still really sad about his ability to kill fast flying enemies reliably and most raid bosses but I play with a zero so it all kinda works out in the end thanks again for this you caught a sub!
I’m not quite sure but I’ve certainly thought about it! Krieg is just the character I know best so I feel the most able to talk about him without missing a bunch of stuff. It is certainly a possibility though and especially for specific builds (like javelin krieg for instance)

You can take roid shields on Krieg, even on op10 Just do not skill silence the voices The roid shield atleast evens out the loss of damage + you dont have the 12%chance of hitting yourself
Was just about to comment this joltz tested it and you do more damage with a roid shield than maxed out silence the voice and also making your buzzaxe explosive makes your buzzaxe do less damage. And this guy talks about using a 200% melee increase assault rifle the captain Scarlett one lol using weapons with melee damage added decreases kreigs melee damage as well. He's best with his buzzaxe. This whole build was all over the place as soon as I heard "rough Rider" and "silence the voice" I immediately knew it was mid asf. Silence the voices is dumb. Skip it entirely.
so sadly swap speed DOESN'T effect anything aside from swapping guns. Damage reduction doesn't have a cap, however, it has very weird formulas that I'm not smart enough to fully understand. Demonite made a very good vido called "How to calculate Damage Reduction" if you want to delve into it at all
As a melee Krieg main that has just over 2,000 hours in BL2 but has literally never touched another character I gotta ask, how do you kill BNK3R? cause he is BY FAR more of a melee Krieg challenge than ANY raid boss (other than maybe the dragons, because I've also never gotten the bloodspolsion to hit in OP 10)
with guns, but I just learned that roid shields DO increase thrown axe damage so I guess that might help a little. Maybe you could get him and his turrets slagged, then use a roid shield, then get your Fuel the Blood up, and throw an axe at a turret you can do a mini bloodsplosion for like 1/10 of his giant health pool. I imagine it would be better than nothing

@@rjray4656 Empty the Rage gets the bonus when your mag is empty OR your shield is down which it pretty much always is, especially if you’re using the rough rider. The bonuses don’t stack with one another so it really is either or
I probably should have atleast mentioned it but I rarely spend any time out of Buzz Axe Rampage so it's only useful for some specific raid boss strats and if you get downed
I think that it's probably actually viable until the OP levels and will save you some major headaches (see what I did there?) from hitting yourself in the face. When you increase your OP levels though, your health doesn't go up so it makes the Rough Rider that much more important.
@@nebulapony1264 but you also lose like 5 million hp so it's unfortunately not super viable end game. Prior to that though it's totally fine and probably even level 80 not in OP levels
@@mrtx01 in a game where amount of health doesn't matter so much as how fast can you heal that health. It's viable because a bunch of people run it OP10 including me because Silence the voices is awful. Not to mention the love thumper benefits from kriegs explosive buffs.
@@nebulapony1264 health does matter as you can freely healthstack on pretty much any character aside from zero and gaige and not have to abuse healthgate. Also I went to test this and it's just wrong. OUTSIDE of Buzz Axe Rampage, you do more with roid shields, HOWEVER, once you use Buzz Axe Rampage you get more damage by using a rough rider with STV. ALSO, using Strip the Flesh at OP10 with a perfect love thumper only increases the damage of your total melee hit by 100,000 damage which is a 0.44% increase. You're welcome to use roid shields if you'd like and if you can find the joltz test you're talking about I'd love to see it.
Honestly it would probably just be the stuff I have but with better parts. Luckily with the melee build, you need very little for it to work, just something to slag, maybe some grenades, and a Rough Rider
No, they are both very powerful and they're very different. Krieg is about doing more consistent damage and being a tank. Zer0 is more about saving up for a big burst of damage and having mobility to back it up. Both are very viable and very fun
@@spagetthasbeentouched1018 i think i mentioned it during the video but i would only really use roid shields during normal or true vault hunter but even then adaptive shields are just better for the most part. I did learn tho that roid shields apply to your thrown axe so if you went for a full throwing build, roid shields could be good
The Crossfire is from the seraph vendor in the Torgue Campaign of Carnage DLC which unfortunately means you need to kill raid bosses to get it. Alternatively you can just farm ammo vendors in normal vault hunter mode for a normal slag betty
a weapon to dmg yourself would be good tbh. Also a norfleet for Fight for your life. i miss some points here, its a lot more to know about it.... they are diffent ways that you didnt explain at all.. Tbh joleztdude explain more to this build but ofc not 1. video
You need 4 points to get down to bloodsplosion. Since you have so much fire-rate already, i think putting on the elemental explosion relic to make up for strip the flesh would be best. Bloodlust tree would be 5 in blood filled guns, taste of blood, fuel the blood, boiling blood, and then 4 into blood overdrive since some grenades are really good at getting bloodlust stacks or slagging enemies. You have to give up something from hellborn to get strip the flesh, not bloodlust. And if you do decide to do that, pain is power would be your best bet, along with the one in fire fiend, just so you can do decent crit damage and have max strip the flesh and blood overdrive. Edit: I however do like the synergy with fire fiend. So. I will.keep it.
Yeah Idk why I said to take the points from blood overdrive and put them elsewhere, I knew full well that they were required to get down the tree. I learned after releasing this video that people don't like pain is power, I've sorta just always taken it but I recognize it's severe fault when it comes to crits. Someone else pointed out something that I liked which was to take the points from pain is power and spec MORE into fire fiend because otherwise it's pretty rare to actually set yourself on fire.
@@mrtx01 thats..actually really good of an idea. Hate missing out on strip the flesh though. Pain is power is a trick imo. The more weapon damage you have, the worse crits can get. Same for melee. So any BAR modifiers will make it bad and some bloodlust stacks will make it bad as well. Think it even affects bloodsplosion.

There is a few specific cases where it's decent but that's pretty much just anytime you won't be able to hit crits at all.

Krieg is up there with Jack and FL4K as the best designed characters in Borderlands in my opinion.
I agree, aside from a few skills, his skills just work together so well
100% Agree. I wish a few skills had some tweaks or flat out were changed entirely but he is arguably one of the most, if not thee most creatively design vault hunter. He demands to be played differently than other vault hunters and it’s just awesome to see Krieg once he’s kitted out/max lvl with an insane build.
He's the character I've had the most fun with. Melee Krieg with Love Thumper is hilarious in co-op too. You turn into a badass monster (literally) that can even kill your friends, and they can even kill you if you want as well. It was so funny back in the day because they always said something like, "Oh he's rampaging again, run away! Stay away he's a monster and he'll kill us!." It just fits Krieg's chaotic madness so well. Then you have Bloodsplosion, such a badass skill :)
flak was the best designed vh in bl3 until they released the purple trees, now i think that zane is better designed
When i was a young teen i loved melee Krieg, never fully understood how to minmax my skill tree and shields but looking back on it all now it was so obvious. I just loved being a badass pyscho

for a general kreig build, I always get blood bath, blood overdrive, and fuel the blood. I always do, because they just synergize with each other like anything I've seen ever. Blood overdrive gets bonus melee, which helps you get fuel the blood active, which adds more explosive damage, which helps with blood bath, giving you grenade drops and bonus gun damage.
Gun damage => melee damage => explosive damage => repeat
I wanna say derchlands helped me learn that, but I don't know if he originally discovered it

Melee Krieg is just unending fun and I'm loving running around slashing at stuff. His design is so good, I feel like an actual BL psycho, purposefully exploding barrels in my face or running into elemental effects around me to get down to that sweet 33% HP, it's hilarious. I just love the "You're overpowered. But also you're mad and can one-shot yourself on occasion." vibe lol
Also fun fact: I was using Fuel the Rampage and it's been pretty good, until my Gaige mate started speccing into Anarchy and OS'ing me randomly with stray bullets 🤣
I love the fact that 24/7 on Krieg you're thinking "Yeah this guys about to die" but also "Yeah I'm about to die" . They did so well with krieg to make him feel like a psycho between the Buzz Axe Rampage, the hellborn tree turning him into a Flaming Lunatic, and the Fact that he can literally be a Suicide Psycho. They cooked with this character and it'll be hard for them to ever create a character I enjoy more

Very-well-made guide, there's honestly nothing to add to this build - a solid one for sure.
But I have a personal grudge against Pain is Power. Though the melee boost is nice and all, but it's too small to give up the ability to benefit from crits for.
Please notice those two consecutive hits at 32:07 and how much Pain is Power gimps the crit damage of melee swings to a point where you actually get punished for scoring crits.
This might seem insignificant with human enemies, but definitely not with Loaders.
One fun and entirely non-practical tip:
when you throw your last buzzaxe far enough in reverse transformation animation, your flying buzzaxe can benefit from a stat-stick you're holding when you are not in buzzaxe rampage (assuming you get to see the weapon while the axe is still in the air), so things like Rapier or a bladed Lady Fist can crank its damage up even more

I'm so stubborn to change build (I've tried other, but not as fun) and I'm glad this video is focused on it. Well explained, not aiming to become extra strong cuz I play casual, but I enjoy a lot this game. I'll reditribute my skill points when I play again
Melee Krieg is definitely in my top few favorite builds! It’s great for leveling up too since you keep doing damage regardless of the guns you have and the only thing you really need to upgrade is your shield (which is typically the Rough Rider so you’re just getting one every few levels with more health on it)

Would just say that mentioning the Longbow Slag Crossfire is great for melee krieg as well.
Toss a few into the area, enter Release the Beast and then keep on killing for a bit.
Itll build Bloodlust fast, slag everything and itll keep slagging for a while after you have entered Release the Beast.
Makes things easier to kill in every way. Especially good if you use the more "Ranged Melee" w explosives axes (which id say is the easier way to go through OP levels w him).
Half the time I use the slag crossfire but the only issue comes from the fact that it can slag you, so sometimes it hurts more than it helps. But when the enemies are slagged and you use Release the Beast, theyll die so fast that it wont even matter!

The problem with moving the points out of blood overdrive is that you won't be able to get to bloodsplosion if you do. Instead just get rid of embrace the pain for strip the flesh, keep the 4 in overdrive and keep the full points in elation

Remember guys, like Kreig says, "It's time to go insane!," not, "it's time to min max my setup . Never throw the axe axe. Bury it in them personally. That's how Kreig would want it. I love Kreig, I think he's the best designed character. Aesthetically, thematically and gameplay wise. I will never understand why they took out raving retribution lines. Unforgivable, that was one of the main reasons I used the elemental skill tree 😢

This build is great! I'd personally use slag nades instead of a pandemic tho but i guess It just comes down to preferences. Very informative video keep it up mate 👍
Yeah I usually interchange them around, that's why I have that slag crossfire. When you slag them your damage literally becomes insane buuuuuut if you slag yourself it's a painful experience. I mostly use the pandemic because it get's me stacks of elemental elation for faster axes, the fire bee would probably be even better for that though

While I’ve played bl2 for years, I’ve only just now stuck to it long enough to max out my zero. One problem that these older games have is when you look for guides it’s super easy to find out dated info by mistake. There’s just so many video guides out there and checking the dates on everything can get tedious. If you’re going to keep up the long form content, then I’m definitely sticking around.

5:29 it is like having a max level chain ligthning and a low level preferably 50 to 60 cause at even at only 72 if you are low it can one shot you speaking from experience so u noticed cross fire was very very low level too its the same it shoots projectiles and its kind of like a rolljng thunder so low level is advised for every healing grenade every elemental dot at high level is very very dangerous btw if u are facing raid bosses with other characters a chain lighting and a moxxy weapon is a must have preferably grog nozzle it can save you lot of times
will a low level Chain Lightning still strip op10 shields at lvl 50/60?
I would also like to make a case for the Love Thumper as a shield. High roid damage, long down time, AND melee attacks release explosive novas, with everything buffing and being buffed by everything else!
It's definitely good (and fun) up up until UVHM and then it's still decent but in the OP levels you become so squishy that you pretty much need an adaptive shield or rough rider. Fun fact since I don't think I mentioned it in the video but roid shields apply to his throwing axes!
I Loved IT. So many things make Sense now. Only question ist where to get The weapons and such. Maybe a detailed video for that?
Well luckily for this build the gear is pretty to find and obtain. Rough rider is from the Bulwark you fight during the "Palling Around" mission in the hammerlock DLC. The slagga can be farmed from Tector Hodunk at the end of the "Clan Wars" missions. Sickle class mods come from literally anywhere but the legendary one has to be farmed from tubbies after level 62. The sheriffs relic can be farmed from the sheriff of lynchwood after completing all the sidequests on the bounty board. Finally the crossfire can be farmed from the seraph vendor in the torgue dlc, and the pandemic drops from mortar in the sawtooth cauldron.
Another shield ive found that works really well that ive been using recently is the Neogenarator. Its still got a shield amount but its not alot and (at least in my play through) has more bonus health then my rough rider! Im sure its a bit more niche of a use but its a cool shield ive been testing out :)
@@umbreonsenju3547 yeah the neogenator and evolution are both the best options if you don’t have the rough rider. Both of them also give health regen but the rough rider gives that 20% damage reduction. Thanks for the comment!
Sometimes I don't take bloodsplosion on melee builds cause, I get to carve things apart less when they just blow up on their own!
I’m the same way and that’s actually why I have my “Hellborn Maniac” build on my channel. Bloodsplosion is extremely good on a melee build but not always the most fun

I use the Teramorphous Roid Shield because it allows me to help quickly RTB
Personally, i believe maxing out Fire Fiend is more important than Pain is Power, as you can ignite yourself for the Numbed Nerves damage reduction. I don't know if you have a discord, but it would be nice to share builds and different perspectives.
Also, Pain is Power adds so little damage once you consider all the other damage boost, i believe investing in other skills is more important. On top of that, too much damage boost can make it easier to down yourself, so I don't op in Pain is Power.
I think that's a pretty valid, even looking back at the footage it's pretty rare that I'm on fire. I bet even just like 2 more points in it mixed with Fuel the Fire would make self fire a lot more consistent. Glad to see some other opinions coming in!

I love Krieg and I feel like he is still the best designed melee character in all of Borderlands. I was using melee Zer0, but he didn’t feel like Brick in BL1, who was my first and favorite character in that game. When Kreig released, I felt like that was both an evolution from Brick and a great spin of playing a psycho. I was hoping Amara had an action skill where all she did was use her Siren powers to punch her enemies, but sadly no. I am hoping the BL4 has a character that has a cool melee rage skill like Brick and Krieg.
Super late, but you csn kill Hyperius too. With buzz axe bombardier, you actually can damage him, when you throw the axe, plus it staggers him = no novas!
For throwing the axe could the roid sheild help there since still gives a nice boost to the damage done which would make harder to hit enemies easier to kill
im pretty sure his axe when thrown doesn't actually do melee damage it does grenade damage for some reason, I know that roid shields DONT actually boost self melee damage because when you hit yourself it counts as grenade damage for some reason but im not 100% sure if that also applies to his axe when thrown
I just tested because I wasn't sure if roid shields worked on throwing axes but they do! Adding a roid shield boosts throwing axe damage AND the buzz axe bombardier damage for some reason. I like how kriegs axe is coded as a bandit pistol, does grenade damage, melee damage, and regenerates rockets with an absorb shield. Good one, Gearbox!
@@mrtx01 actually even if it does melee damage its classes as a Bandit pistol soooooo yeah you can tell some people abuse the fire rate bonus to make him a range unit when it shouldn't be possible but I think you could use the Roid during release the beast since your getting damage reduction and only need 1 melee kill to be set for range throws but switch to Rough Rider since you wont need it otherwise

I finally tried this a couple weeks ago, I can't believe how badly I was doing melee krieg, even struggling in tvhm. I'm almost max level in uvhm now. I gotta ask though how the hell do you deal with contructors?
None of my corrosive weapons damage it and it 1 taps me even with max stacks and self burn damage resistance.
The trick to constructors is to run past them whenever you can 🤣
If you have full bloodlust stacks and get lucky, sometimes he will make a turret and with the help of a few other mobs you can bloodsplode it to death. Even if you don't bloodsplode, you can get a kill on his turret then throw your axes at his eye with the Fuel the Blood bonus. It also doesn't hurt to have a Bee as backup for the superbad constructors throughout the game
@@mrtx01 Yeah I was replaying the main story with the build, the 2 required constructors up to the bunker fight. Thankfully I had some good guns at that point.
I also optimized the build in my own way a little bit. Using more skills from hellborn to be on fire for longer. So I can have rapid axe throws for longer.
I still haven't gotten a legendary sickle mod though.
@@mrtx01 I also want to add on. Tediore guns are really fucking good with this build, witg all the points you put in you have insane amounts of mag size and practically instant reload speed. I have a level 70 baby maker that's still 1 shotting bandits.

This guide made me go from hating playing Krieg feeling like he’s a dogshit character to loving the crazy high dps from melee still really sad about his ability to kill fast flying enemies reliably and most raid bosses but I play with a zero so it all kinda works out in the end thanks again for this you caught a sub!

I’m not quite sure but I’ve certainly thought about it! Krieg is just the character I know best so I feel the most able to talk about him without missing a bunch of stuff. It is certainly a possibility though and especially for specific builds (like javelin krieg for instance)

The roid shield atleast evens out the loss of damage + you dont have the 12%chance of hitting yourself
Was just about to comment this joltz tested it and you do more damage with a roid shield than maxed out silence the voice and also making your buzzaxe explosive makes your buzzaxe do less damage. And this guy talks about using a 200% melee increase assault rifle the captain Scarlett one lol using weapons with melee damage added decreases kreigs melee damage as well. He's best with his buzzaxe. This whole build was all over the place as soon as I heard "rough Rider" and "silence the voice" I immediately knew it was mid asf. Silence the voices is dumb. Skip it entirely.

Does weapon swap speed affect throwables? I know in some games it does. And the damage reduction probably has a cap.
so sadly swap speed DOESN'T effect anything aside from swapping guns. Damage reduction doesn't have a cap, however, it has very weird formulas that I'm not smart enough to fully understand. Demonite made a very good vido called "How to calculate Damage Reduction" if you want to delve into it at all
As a melee Krieg main that has just over 2,000 hours in BL2 but has literally never touched another character I gotta ask, how do you kill BNK3R? cause he is BY FAR more of a melee Krieg challenge than ANY raid boss (other than maybe the dragons, because I've also never gotten the bloodspolsion to hit in OP 10)
with guns, but I just learned that roid shields DO increase thrown axe damage so I guess that might help a little. Maybe you could get him and his turrets slagged, then use a roid shield, then get your Fuel the Blood up, and throw an axe at a turret you can do a mini bloodsplosion for like 1/10 of his giant health pool. I imagine it would be better than nothing

i would not increase mag size over weapon swap, it would hurt Empty the rage, I'd have an empty slag rapier to synergize.
@@rjray4656 Empty the Rage gets the bonus when your mag is empty OR your shield is down which it pretty much always is, especially if you’re using the rough rider. The bonuses don’t stack with one another so it really is either or

I think that it's probably actually viable until the OP levels and will save you some major headaches (see what I did there?) from hitting yourself in the face. When you increase your OP levels though, your health doesn't go up so it makes the Rough Rider that much more important.

@@mrtx01 in a game where amount of health doesn't matter so much as how fast can you heal that health. It's viable because a bunch of people run it OP10 including me because Silence the voices is awful. Not to mention the love thumper benefits from kriegs explosive buffs.
@@nebulapony1264 health does matter as you can freely healthstack on pretty much any character aside from zero and gaige and not have to abuse healthgate. Also I went to test this and it's just wrong. OUTSIDE of Buzz Axe Rampage, you do more with roid shields, HOWEVER, once you use Buzz Axe Rampage you get more damage by using a rough rider with STV. ALSO, using Strip the Flesh at OP10 with a perfect love thumper only increases the damage of your total melee hit by 100,000 damage which is a 0.44% increase. You're welcome to use roid shields if you'd like and if you can find the joltz test you're talking about I'd love to see it.

Honestly it would probably just be the stuff I have but with better parts. Luckily with the melee build, you need very little for it to work, just something to slag, maybe some grenades, and a Rough Rider

No, they are both very powerful and they're very different. Krieg is about doing more consistent damage and being a tank. Zer0 is more about saving up for a big burst of damage and having mobility to back it up. Both are very viable and very fun

@@spagetthasbeentouched1018 i think i mentioned it during the video but i would only really use roid shields during normal or true vault hunter but even then adaptive shields are just better for the most part. I did learn tho that roid shields apply to your thrown axe so if you went for a full throwing build, roid shields could be good
How do you get a low level slag crossfire for pyro Pete?
The Crossfire is from the seraph vendor in the Torgue Campaign of Carnage DLC which unfortunately means you need to kill raid bosses to get it. Alternatively you can just farm ammo vendors in normal vault hunter mode for a normal slag betty

You need 4 points to get down to bloodsplosion. Since you have so much fire-rate already, i think putting on the elemental explosion relic to make up for strip the flesh would be best.
Bloodlust tree would be 5 in blood filled guns, taste of blood, fuel the blood, boiling blood, and then 4 into blood overdrive since some grenades are really good at getting bloodlust stacks or slagging enemies.
You have to give up something from hellborn to get strip the flesh, not bloodlust. And if you do decide to do that, pain is power would be your best bet, along with the one in fire fiend, just so you can do decent crit damage and have max strip the flesh and blood overdrive.
Edit: I however do like the synergy with fire fiend. So. I will.keep it.
Yeah Idk why I said to take the points from blood overdrive and put them elsewhere, I knew full well that they were required to get down the tree. I learned after releasing this video that people don't like pain is power, I've sorta just always taken it but I recognize it's severe fault when it comes to crits. Someone else pointed out something that I liked which was to take the points from pain is power and spec MORE into fire fiend because otherwise it's pretty rare to actually set yourself on fire.

Pain is power is a trick imo. The more weapon damage you have, the worse crits can get. Same for melee. So any BAR modifiers will make it bad and some bloodlust stacks will make it bad as well. Think it even affects bloodsplosion.
Now we just need Pre Sequel builds and it's perfect ☺️🥹
