  • During my last adventure, I went alpine climbing with my friends Gaizka and Cristina to Porté-Puymorens, in the French Pyrenees . I filmed it with the DJI Osmo Action 3 with the updated Firmware, which has many new features, including the possibility to film in 10-bit D-Cinelike and HDR mode. All filmed in 4K 60, I loved how fast it turns on and starts recording, and the magnetic mount, very convenient when you're moving fast! Full review coming soon!
As we slowly climbed through rocks and what should be firm snow, I started thinking: Is this how winter’s going to look like from now on? I mean, you’ve seen the news, ski resorts all over Europe are closed and the mountains are falling apart, every season is getting worse and worse…. which brings me to my question again: could winter be… dead?
We spent the day chasing a non-existent Winter. We had all the necessary ingredients for alpinism: 5am alarms, a gruesome approach in the dark, heavy backpacks and feet full of blisters. We tried really hard but the lack of snow/ice/cold doomed us: Winter was nowhere to be found. What we did find was a day of adventure, laughter and friendship in the mountains. And as long as we have that, I’m OK with it. Who knows, maybe winter is just around the corner and we don’t know it yet… i just hope that it comes back soon

Hey man! Was looking to find some videos where the Osmo 3 was used for climbing and found yours - sweet video.
Question for you, what stabilization settings were you using? I'm doing a multi-pitch trip here soon and I'm wondering if I should use one of the Rocksteady settings or the Horizon Balancing.

Nicely done. Very cinematic! I think we are likely to see extremes: some years dry and warm, some.years.cold and wet. A ski resort in California just closed.due to too much snow. They have an 11.2m base but got over 2m in just a few days. I think we alpinists are going to relearn how to anticipate and read conditions. For example, where I am in Colorado, we are switching from a Continental snow pack to something more like a maritime snowpack due to warmer weather during snow falls. Huge slab avalanches are becoming more likely. And couloir season is coming later and is lasting for less time. We need to be open to re-examining our habits and assumptions.

Thank you, happy you like it! I agree, it will become more unpredictable and more extreme. Many classic alpine routes in the Alps are no longer mixed routes, pure rock, as well as others that are not climbable/skiable at all anymore… It’s as you said, shorter and more erratice seasons, hopefully we find a way to still get out and share it with others
