Little late for this video posting, but want to say thanks for the help! Couldn't for the life of me figure out why my mic was inconsistent, didn't even realize it was because it was a directional mic... Thank you sooo much!!!
Hey there! Great question. Unfortunately there really isn’t one good answer for everyone. Essentially, the gain should be set to wherever is a healthy signal feeding into your recorder, software, etc. My rule of thumb is right around -5dB on your meter. This way, you’re ensuring you have a healthy signal, but still have headroom unless you happen to get louder for a moment. Feel free to reach out and we’d be happy to discuss further! Hello - great question! There is not a way to save audio to this mic; this is not really a common feature for USB mics but the Tula Mic would be the best option for something like that: www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/TulaMicBlk--tula-portable-usb-c-microphone-with-built-in-recorder-black The Zoom Handheld recorder series could also work for an application where you need standalone recording: www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/H4nProBlk--zoom-h4n-pro-handy-recorder-black Thanks! @@sweetwater thank you! How do i use my custom settings? Do i just close the application and film from my laptop? Or is there a way to film with my phone
@@MilosASMR Sure thing! Not quite sure what you are referring to by custom settings, but the idea with the standalone mics/recorders is that you would record the audio directly to the device while filming with your phone, and then sync the audio and video in your video editing software after the fact. Thanks! Jason Filloramo, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1281, Jason_Filloramo@sweetwater.com
Hi, thanks for your interest! The simplest way to think about the gain knob is that it determines how sensitive the mic is. If it’s set too low, you’ll get a signal that’s too faint - if it’s too high, you might encounter clipping or even feedback if you’re connected to a live speaker system. Everyone’s voice is different, so you’ll want to experiment with the gain to find a setting that works best for you. I hope this helps a bit - feel free to contact me directly with any further questions, and thanks again! Caleb Lowrey, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1620, caleb_lowrey@sweetwater.com
Go to your sound settings in your computer, then go to microphone inputs. Make sure that it's on and not muted, and that your volume isn't all the way down. If you have an audio interface connected at the same time it may not be able to recognize the USB mic. Also make sure your gain settings on your microphone are high enough to amplify the volume.
@@legacyShredder1 Yes I did all that and it works in Xbox screan recoreder on windows, however bit rate sound low but that might be because of a setting in the Xbox app to reduce band whipth for broadcasting. The mic audio is picked up by windows and can been seen registering the audio from the mic. In the DAW it recognised in the settings as audio in and out but not picking or registering and sound input.
@@HOLLASOUNDS I know the DAW. There are still settings for armed and unarmed tracks. If you've got 2 or more microphones hooked up you don't always want all of them recording to the same track. If you've got multiple microphones and multiple tracks you don't always want every track to record at the same time.
Saving things .. i want to send my producer a wav file that has my vocals, beat, track. All i do now is record my vocals and only send my vocals. The producer then guesses where i jump in..sometimes producers are a split second off because i dont send other files but my trick is to record myself on a beat(broadcasting mic) to showcase how i flowed on it. Im basically trying to make it easier for my producer to get all my files but saving and sending every file is what im trying to do to make my mix-mastering producer have an easier time.
Hey there! What you’re doing is certainly a great start, but there are some other options to help even further. First, I would look into some sort of vocal shield like the one below: www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Reflexion--se-electronics-reflexion-filter-pro-portable-vocal-booth This will setup behind the microphone and block your voice from being able to bounce around the room quite as much since you’ll be speaking/singing directly into the foam. Otherwise, it’s always great to keep your room well treated both for recording and mixing. You can find some different acoustic treatment packs to get started below, as well: www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Wedgies--auralex-2-inch-studiofoam-wedgies-1-foot-by-1-foot-acoustic-panel-24-pack-charcoal www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/London10Bk--primacoustic-london-10-black I hope this helps! Hi! We have ordered 2 yetis to record a podcast. Now im wondering if I even need two of if we could record it by the Birectional pattern. Also if I use 2 microphones, do I need to plug them in into two laptops, of can I plug in both on one?
As a general rule you should always have 1 mic for each person on a podcast. Without a mixer you should also only have 1 mic per computer. If you're going to be in a small enclosed room and sitting closer to your guest/cohost 1 mic would be fine. Since having 2 mics means both could pick up your voices and you get weird echo on your recordings without proper setup. Depending on your room you may need some padding or even a barrier between your 2 mics so it blocks up sound from your neighbors mic. There is a solution to this called Voicemeeter (a digital mixer) that's free to download that would allow you to use multiple mic sources on one computer much easier but then you have to learn a little of that software. The Blue Yeti is pretty basic but easy for plug and play. But you may even need to play around with your device/sound settings to get it set up right. It can be pretty sensitive to background noise like picking up car noise, fans in the background, even ac running. Note this is not because "Wow it's such a good mic", professional mics are much better at blocking background noise and giving fuller sound. Blue yeti is the plug/play option, I've used one for years but I never needed to upgrade. So yes 1 mic can be just what you need. Two mics with proper noise suppression on one computer can be done (with some extra work). Two mics through an xlr mixer to a computer combined with the noise suppression/filters is way more work, time, and money than you'll likely ever need. I hope some of this helps, I wouldn't consider myself a professional just all the things I've learned over the years from hobby audio use.
Hi Guys, I plug my blue yeti USB into my laptop and then plug the audio jack into my camera. When I record and bring the video files into iMovie to cut (newbie editor) It sounds like the very beginning of every single separate clip that I take is loud/blown out and then slowly softens like 10 or 20 seconds into the clip. It almost sounds like the mic is listening as hard as it can for the first few seconds, and then when it gets used to the loudness, it turns sensitivity on its own. So it sounds like I’m screaming at the beginning of every video clip and then it sounds normal for the rest of the clip. Any explanation of why that might be? I’m guessing it could be my set up and not the actual microphone. But would love to know if someone has run into this before.
Hi, great question! The Blue Yeti doesn't have any automatic gain control as far as I know. The source of the issue would likely be what is receiving the audio. Without knowing what camera you use, there is no way for me to know, but I would look at the gain/level settings of the camera and see if there is any auto gain option you can disable. If you have any more questions, just give me a shout! Drake Sobehrad, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 3271, drake_sobehrad@sweetwater.com
