You can knock at least two of these "problems" off by joining a gym: meet new people and have a schedule (group classes). My jobs have NEVER defined me or given me "a purpose." What excites me about retirement? Sleeping in, taking a nap whenever I want to, relax in the mornings over a latte outside in nature, and I don't have to answer to anyone else.

As I’m about to retire, I don’t wish to empty my diary to find its full again.
I want to wake up in the morning and my activities be guided by the weather. Historic houses and museums and cinema when it rains. Walking and cycling if dry. None of this needs to involve others and will be last minute, but I will still find someone to talk to.

Not retired … yet; already not eating out as much, bringing lunch to work more often and creating a list of places to visit all over USA and Canada for a start. I look forward to naps, puttering all over the place - garden, yard, house. Reading much more, sitting and staring at nature, watching the birds, plinking around .

Since Dec23, I've being focused on getting financial side sorted. Done although won't mature until July25. Now I need to focus on my health so that I can enjoy it all.

I’m 63.5 year old and retiring in a few months. I ve been planning the transition for a year. Through open communication and listening, I learned that my husband, 65, has no interest in retiring before at least 67 and he would prefer that I wait until 65. We compromised. I am going to retire because I am ready and I want to. He is going to continue to work because he wants to. Since I also lost interaction with my best friend due to dementia gradually over the past two years, I will need to make new friends. For social opportunities, I plan to join clubs and organizations that are aligned with my interests and hobbies.

Spending money just because I have it seems pointless. I agree with most of what you say. I think spending on experiences and quality for things I need makes sense. Taking care of oneself is to me a full-time job. It's one I love.

It's interesting to listen to your video. We are going to AZ for the our first Winter away in retirement. Also, I am in search of a seasonal campground to have a trailer on. It's fun that our interests are the similar. We both are retired at the end of this year.

Retired at age 39...I was so bored, I went and got two more degrees in 3 years, and while in school I was bored and opened an online business...the problem was I went from 80 hour weeks, to zero...no financial issues, I have a retirement, and some investments, that will easily hold me to when inflation rises to much and my social security will kick in my 60s because I will likely be dead before 70 so not waiting. My biggest issue is boredom, so I make work for myself to pass the time.

Great insight into yourself. I just think it sounds lonely, maybe join a non denominational church where you'll have fellow brothers & sisters, an eternal family

Exactly. Retired 4 yrs ago in 40s. The math is easy and pales compared to psych, connections, routine and purpose portfolio. Excellent💪

I work for the world's largest trucking company. None of our drivers or retirees have made it much past 70 years old. Scary

Friends & social life, maybe a great hobby are the best, help to keep you active & healthy!! And be prepared for change, whether it be traveling, health or family, whether it be a happy or sad change!! Be prepared!!

Strongly considering downsizing? I live in a high taxed state. All my friends are moving to N.C. and south.
